Suicide Squad Isekai is Terrible? and TBH I'd Drop It if Tappei Wasn't Writing It

- Even disregarding the massive hurdle to overcome with the brand already damaged thanks to the game Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League that released earlier this year. Suicide Squad Isekai has a stellar staff, but somehow squanders Tappei-sensei & Eiji-sensei potential as the writers of the show. Two incredible writers suited for fantasy stories being held back for some reason. The animation and art is good, but its not enough to win me over.
I feel if not for Tappei and Eiji writing this, I would drop the show after these first 3 episodes that released.

Most people don't watch things they hate. They watch enough to know they hate it. This IP comes with baggage, and thats their problem to overcome.
For example, if you hate Suicide Squad, you'll hate this show, guarenteed. No need to watch. Its their job to overcome that and make people WANT to watch. If your title is hated because of the name, you messed up.

I actually heavily disagree with you this time Chibi. The show is loads of fun to watch. Its got good fights, already good characters we know, an interesting ridiculous premise, and some decent comedy.
I think looking at the show as a trash isekai fan and dc fan the show is very referential to tropes and history of the characters and genre. The premise of the show is how the suicide squad cast would react to an isekai and I'd say the show nails it perfectly. All of the characters feel like they'd lept straight out of the movies and even Clayface is close to accurate to who he is. Eccentric movie star driven mad. Some liberties were taken with him for sure to make him look attractive, charismatic, and knowledgeable about isekai, but overall I find it funny rather than annoying. Also according to the opening there are a lot more surprises that will be coming ourway with other DC characters leaking in. My only worry is that the art quality will dip down, but overall im impressed by how this show is panning out so far.

It had a very mediocre start which I feel will filter people so his point about dropping is on point. They were smart to push out the first 3 episodes imo because episode 1 seemed particularly uninteresting. There was more to episode 2 and 3. I'm not sure if it was just me, but the characters started off rough but seemingly improved as episodes went on. I felt the same way about the comedy improving. The problem is while the characters did start to suck me in a bit mor, the main plot is still just "whatever".

Let’s be frank folks, WB and DC have for years massively overestimated and overhyped the appeal of Harley Quinn and the Suicide Squad. The video game only added insult to apathy. They’re so desperate to make these characters into their own Deadpool and Guardians equivalent that they’re throwing them at everything like darts to a wall, except the darts are poorly constructed and bounce off the wall instead.
Yeah especially with Harley quinn and my god have they not only forced her to be a pillar in the dc universe but also the writers have ruin Harley quinn with multiple times. Like the Harley quinn show, the comics and ect are terrible and than there is the poison ivy and Harley relationship and what it have becomes which no because they never shown any interest i each other and were just friends( which annoys me to no end and don't get me start on the comics man dc has been making terrible stuff lately like god awful rwby justice movie which were horrific and insulting thank god rt is shutdown and not making anymore especially with volume 9 which was a insult especiallythat ship. This is the issue I have with big IP spinoffs like this, it's hard for the writers to really let their creativity shine and do anything crazy because of the pressure to just play it safe and avoid pushing buttons.

I seriously don't think many people have the initial impression that Suicide Squad Isekai is terrible.
I dont think this show needs to be anything spectacular or a master piece, it just needs to be fun. I will agree that it will probably be somewhat surface level so the DC only fans who know nothing about anime or isekai wont freak out and drop the show. But i think the more than make up for it with vibes, its just fun to watch so far. I think it will become a good binge watch show if anything.

The decision to make the show an Isekai was so baffingly stupid, the concept was desitned to fail from the start. To take a somewhat dark grungy and grounded world and to fuse it with an Isekai makes absolutely no sense. The beginning half of the first episode started off fantastic and the second half just absolutely nosedives harder then ive ever seen any anime episode. The animation is beautiful and the characters are lovingly potrayed but man the writing is just apallingly awful. Overall objectively painfully mid show and personally every element of the Isekai just does not work and ulitmatley drags the show down and makes it trash. Really bummed out with this one.

Western bros think animating a shitshow with japanese animators and adding "Isekai" in the title is the formula of sucess. Failing to realize that 100%of isekai animes only exist because they are popular light novels first and foremost, with thousands of other stories releasing at the same time and getting rejected or forgotten.
Interesting character designs and flashy fight scenes will get people talking maybe a week and then drop it.

that’s what I’m also saying. Fine by me if someone will like it, but it’s clear Warner Bros and DC wanted to chase the trend for anime. The choice of an Isekai concept was obvious of this, and on top of using the IP of existing characters made it seem to be forceful and not telling a good story compared with actual popular Isekai series.
I don't care if the script is horrible, the merge of different genres by art style is beautiful to me.

1:24 Just like the situation with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, but unlike Suicide Squad, edgerunners didn't have big problems with its reputation because of the game, even winning anime of the year:))
Cyberpunk was just getting back on its feet back then. Cyberpunk was also just a genuinely good shows.
The difference is that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners had good script writers from Poland who also worked on Cyberpunk 2077. Suicide Squad probably has some hopeless direction directors (who probably veto everything interesting from Japanese writers) from DC in California who worked on worthless Suicide Squad game.

I actually dropped this *because* Tappei was writing it. That's NOT because I think Tappei is a bad writer, I just don't think his style and specialties is suited for this kind of story.
I think Tappei's specialty is character arcs, really strong & impactful emotions, great plotting, and really unique & well-utilized concepts. If you look at his two best works; Re;Zero and Vivy, you'll notice that those things are those stories' biggest strengths.
But imo something like Suicide Squad is best suited for a writer who's specialty is character dialogue & character interactions during more mundane moments. And although Tappei's character dialogue is pretty good in it's own right, it's not his specialty.
For Eiji, I have no idea what his style is since I haven't watched any of the shows he's worked on besides Re;Zero and Vivy. Based on what I've seen of Suicide Squad Isekai(I only watched the first episode so far), I'm inclined to believe that dialogue isn't his specialty either.
Again, I'm not saying that either of them are bad writers or that either of them are bad at writing dialogue or character ineteractions. They're obviously plenty good at those things. I'm just saying that you need writers with a specialty in dialogue for this kind of story. Because the biggest appeal of this story is gonna be the way these characters act and how they interact with each other.
Its a really fun show, dont know what you watched or were expecting the show to be, but it does what it wants great 9/10
First impression was alright, although after finishing the first episode, I have to wonder: What is the end goal for an Isekai story in the first place?
Konosuba is at least meant to be comedic, Re Zero or Mushoku Tensei actually has good lore and world building, however this DC anime didn’t give me that feeling.
Kinda funny that other DC alternative universe plot line has better story. What even the difference between isekai and multiverse anyway?

But it’s the same plot for suicid squad, the same prison plot over and over , they just get to another country, like monster are no big deal since they are used to fight monsters to back home , so in that series the isekai is nothing more than a Japanese word added to the suicid squad to make it look or sound different, but it’s American , feel American, it’s an American anime looking thing, I’m a isekai lover , and for me it’s a failed anime. I’ll probably never watch it , because I already know what will happen, the usual DC stuff American 100% multiverse like …. Highly recommend watching the Dub coz these characters feel weird when they're talking in Japanese.
I'd prefer this than My Adventures with Superman, which is a show that I also love.

I just watched the first 3 eps and I think it's great and only going to get better. It took until the end of the 3rd ep to have them all in their costumes at full power. This was merely the prelude to the real story and twists they've yet to tell. Still, I was laughing out loud at a lot of scenes, it looks great, sounds great, phenomenal cast, VAs writers and all. I'm on board until the end!

WB need to stop shoving Harley Quinn down our throat. In the last 8 years 3 movies, an animated series, terrible video game and that just stuff where she's the main focus and not including stuff like the superhero's girl animated show or the TMNT/Batman crossover.
As a DC fan, I'm really disappointed. Animation is good (not peak just good) overall it's just better than average. I really had my hope high up in the heaven cuz why not it's freaking suicide squad isekai animated by WIT. My disappointment started with Joker design and the way how the isekai world look like. I'm sick of these greeen rock mountains that scream ISEKAIIIIII

The problem for the writers is probably that it's not their characters and as such they can't write anything original with them.
I'd wait till episode 5 to see if the show gets better, but since it's only going to be a 10 episode series, it might not say much. However, based off of what was said about the first 3 episodes, it sounds to me that:
1. WB & DC are most likely to ones who are limiting the staff from going full on with the show.
2. After hearing about the new Scooby-doo anime & the upcoming LotR anime styled film, it's obvious that this show is the start of WB diving into anime.
Semi hot take: DC animations have been the best DC content for a while
It's written like this because the show is for DC fans first (particularly those who had never watched anime before) and anime fan second

Of course it's terrible, it's a fucking isekai and it's written by a complete hack.
Not to say all isekais are bad, a small handful are cool, but generally they are uninspired stories that do nothing creative. This is no exception.
Re:zero is considered the best written isekai by basically everyone other than MT fans. Since there’s a rivalry between the fanbases. What are you on about?
@@SilverSaw988 Don't speak for all of us man. MT is one of my favorite stories of all time, one of the only things I'd put above it is Re Zero. That rivalry is stupid and entirely about the ego and elitism of the individuals involved anyways, which is made ironic and even more stupid when you realize that the two authors of both MT and Re Zero are friends and love eachothers' work lol

@@SilverSaw988 You should totally do it. I know I'm a complete stranger so my opinion on something is quite worthless to you but I think it's the best isekai after Re Zero. It's really good. Season 2 is airing its final episode on Sunday as well, so it's somewhat a perfect time, you've got the first two entire seasons to watch. And then the wait for season 3 begins. Sadge. At least we'll have Re Zero season 3 in the meantime!
