    I plugged it in a 1rm calculator, this 50rm would be ~490kg for 1. Nice Brom, keep going :D

      The 1RM calculator is really only accurate for about 1 - 15 reps. Anything above 20 reps becomes more of an endurance instead of strength limitation. The formula breaks down after that; no longer a linear function.

    50 reps in one setting is definitely aspirational for me. Hell, even 135lbs is a scary prospect. I want to try it though.

    For awesome burn do high rep split squats. One thing I like to do at the end of leg workout is giant sets of Bulgarian split squats. I choose a weight I can do about 20 reps, I do sets back to back close to failure without rest until I hit 100 reps total on each leg. One leg recovers while the other leg is working. Similar to EMOM workout but there’s actually no real rest period so it’s much more cardiovascularly demanding. Usually takes about 10 minutes total.

    Great set! A goal of 100 reps would be brutal. Reminds me of sarges 98 rep squat with Jesse marunde years back

      Will Dinwiddie nailed it for 100 and did 315 for 50. He's also a big inspiration for this.

    I got yelled at at Golds by staff for doing a 25 rep squat set. It took probably more like 3-4 minutes for half the reps.

    Damn good work. Never thought about even going for a set like this. What percentage of 1rm would you recommend I attempt this with? 30-40?

      If it's your first time getting into this threshold, start absurdly light. I started at 135 and it wasn't easy. You adapt to this type of endurance pretty quick (think of it like jogging, with weights) but if you bite off more than you can chew, you will be needlessly wrecked for longer than you should. I'd start at 20% or less, focus on pacing, then add weight aggressively each time.

    I had the same problem at la fitness. No gym bags on the floor. They told me to put it in the locker or leave it in the car. I refused and told them that gym lockers and gym parking lots are notorious for break ins. The safest place my bag is is right next to me. Then they told me to leave it at the front desk. I said I'll leave it at the front desk only if you accept responsibility if anything is missing. They said no of course. Cancelled my membership and went to 24 and haven't had a problem yet

    I want to do this because I want to focus and truly dive deep into Tom Platz fundamentals of the squat and working the quads at such High rep ranges. With Squat shoes.
    I squat lowbar but I also squat Highbar when Im focusing on the quads heavily.

    I once did a 20 rep squat set with 100kg with no belt and bare knees. Literally had to collapse onto the floor after.

    Epic. Wondering if you had any after effects from COVID? I've just been back in the gym a few days after recovering and my lung capacity definitely needs to be built back up. Question is open to any fellow commenters. Cheers.

      The weakness and diminished lung capacity was rough. I was only down for 2 days and started lifting and running again right after. Thankfully I was back in fighting shape after a couple of weeks

      @@jims4877 Damn, a few months is a long time. Did 5*5 squats yesterday at a lighter weight than usual and felt like I'd run a marathon. As you said, just have to listen to the body and slowly build it back up.

    Awesome! Really enjoying learning about volume and high rep lifting on this channel. Just curious but how does the rate/speed you put out the reps help muscle growth? Also curious about breathing. I’m used to taking a big breath into the stomach when lifting heavy on squat. I’ve never tried for anything like 50 on a bar. This almost looks like you worry a lot less about that and just focus on endurance. Hope those aren’t dumb questions!

      Not at all! Bracing is much, much less important when the load is this light, which is a good thing because you will black out trying to do max effort bracing on this many reps. As far as rep speed, I don't think that contributes to growth much. Strength, in some sense maybe, but not growth. If there is a muscle building effect, it's likely more to do with the total volume of all the reps and severity of the fatigue.

    I started training to increse my co2 tolerance and I had the impression that it helped a lot to make me feel less out of breath durante the training.
    Of curse it may be just the placebo effect but it does make sanse that improving your co2 tolence would help to feel less out of breath during the training session, besides, there's at least one scientific showing improvimmnts in the performance in strength training if you do hyperventilation before each set, which means that maybe lack of capacity to tolarete co2 build up in the body is limiting your performance in strength training

      It's not necessarily CO2 tolerance (you don't want CO2 to build up in your bloodstream, divers suddenly die on occasion because they've built up such a tolerance of CO2 in the bloodstream that they black out and die under water), it's about cycling the CO2 out of the body more efficiently and getting O2 in better. Unless you're going all out in cardio, nasal breathing and double inhaling techniques work to cycle CO2 out of the bloodstream faster and get a higher per-breath O2 amount in.

      @@a-a-rondavis9438 You're probably not gonna die from holding your breath during a set of squats though. Free divers die like that because CO2 buildup is what triggers the inhalation reflex, but they've downregulated theirs to a point where they can hold their breath for 5+ minutes without that reflex triggering at all. So they lose track of time, their brain goes hypoxic and KO's them to try and protect itself, and they drown to death whilst they're unconscious.
      I guess if you're holding your breath for several minutes at a time you could pass out under the bar, but hopefully nobody is doing that haha.
      I agree with what you're saying about O2 though. I can't see why improving your ability to hold your breath would benefit performance in any way. Our muscles need oxygen to function properly. Typically the only reason we hold our breath in strength training is to improve abdominal stability, beyond that it's not particularly useful as far as I know. If you're gasping for breath after a set of squats, it's because your legs need oxygen ... so give them oxygen lol.

    Are you supposed to brace how you normally would for low rep squats (valsalva manoeuvre) with these sets? It seems like hell to hold your breath so much with weight on your back

    I like this better than all your professor blah stuff, with the exception of your complaint in the beginning.
    The reason I say this is because everyone wants the secret formula. If more people just put in this type of work consistently they got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

    That manager is bad for business. If he owned the gym, and depended on it for income he would not get so passionate about minutiae. That incompetence is obviously being compensated for.
    At the Gold's I go to they don't sweat that small stuff. I got a gym bag, and I have a baby 38 on me wherever I go. That doesn't effect anybody's work out. I don't wanna ever have to use it, but this is the real world, and bad things can happen if you get caught without one. That manager wants to add to the number of people who could get caught without one. Word is bond he ain't my type, and I would have cancelled my membership too.
