  • In this episode, learn how to use banding as a decorative technique in floral design to hold groups of flowers together. We use a vibrant and fun color palette to showcase this contemporary style. A clear glass container shows off this decorative technique to its full potential. We’ll even use a tall martini glass for an example of banding as it might be used in an event design. We’ll also be tasting Elijah Craig Small Batch bourbon. This is a delicious 94 proof pour with notes of smoky oak and vanilla!

Where does one get such a vase? I need one in my life. The tulips slithering inside the vase is incredible. Simple and stunning. Thank you for sharing your talents!

Hi there! Thanks for your kind words!! And, yes, EVERYONE needs one of these vases in their life! Mine came from a company called Accent Decor. They sell beautiful event glassware that is wonderful quality and very substantial (especially when compared with some other sources). Because they are wholesale only, you may reach out to them to inquire about a retail vendor located in your area. I'm sure they would be glad to help you! Good luck and have fun with it! Thanks for watching!! Mark

Another great episode, Mark! This technique is a simple, subtle way to draw your eye into the arrangement, adding a little "surprise" where you least expect it.
I have a couple of questions:
-When you pierce the stems with the wire, are there some flowers you wouldn't do that bc it would prevent the stems from pulling in/up the water?
-How long do you leave the tulips out to "wilt" before you can manipulate them?
PS I love the info pop-ups, but prefer when we can still watch you work instead of the pop-up taking over the frame.

Maria, you are kind and I am so appreciative of your friendship and support of Blossoms & Bourbon! I love thinking of the decorative band as a little "surprise!" What a perfect way to describe it!
As for your other questions, here goes:
      - The successful piercing of the stems with the decorative wire depends on a couple of factors. One is the thickness of the wire! You may have noticed that the turquoise wire in the first arrangement is much thicker than the hot pink wire I used on the tulips near the end! And, flowers with those fibrous stems (like tulips and calla lilies) work well for that technique. Woody stems (like lilac or hydrangea) or hollow stems (like daffodils or anemone) would not work very well! Chrysanthemums would work well just because they are so sturdy, but the stems are a little bumpy and irregular so the result may not be as pleasing!
      - The tulips I used in the video had been laying on my table for about 6 hours prior to taping this episode. I would say that 8-10 hours would be ideal (overnight if your schedule would work that way?!).
And, thanks too, for the info on the pop-ups! We weren't sure that they were completely readable showing up over the actual video! I appreciate your input!
      Thanks again! Mark

I'm so glad you liked this technique and the colored wire. I have listed here a link to the Amazon page where you can purchase aluminum wire in colors. The brand I used is the Oasis brand and is also on this same page. You'll see the smaller guage round wire as well as the flat type that I also used. Thank you so much for watching!! Hi Margareth. I’m sorry to hear that. I wasn’t sure to what extent American bourbon would be available outside the US. Thank you so much for watching. I hope you’ll continue to enjoy the videos even if you can’t try the bourbon! Do you have a favorite drink? 😁

Loved watching you design. However, is the horrible background music mandatory? It is very annoying. Sorry to complain. Looking forward to future episodes. Thank you.
