@Andre Rodriguez if I had to bet money I would say that the equinox will be a hit if they actually manage to put them in american driveways for 30k-ish. @davidws5439 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

You guys STILL don't get it.
You both are talking about 19.2 kw. You need a 100 amp breaker to power the 80 amp EVSE. You can only use 80% of the breaker.
AC level One is up to 1.92 kw 120 volt requires a 20 amp breaker using 16 amps.
    Thus 120 x 16 = 1.92 kw
AC level Two is up to 19.2 kw
240 volt requires a 100 amp breaker, using 80 amps
    Thus 240 x 80 =19.2 kw
    DC FAST CHARGING level One
    Is up to 48 kw
DC FAST CHARGING LEVEL TWO IS UP TO 400 kw
Nothing above 400 kw has a standard set yet, even though Tesla and others have Mega Chargers above 400 kw.
DC Chargers are at the stations, direct current the battery.
EVSE: Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment for AC charging of level One 120 volt and level two 240 volt.
AC chargers 1 & 2 are in the vehicle.

It seems the automakers are trying to produce as many EVs as they can, if they are successful ramping up production then prices will come down and newer models will target more affordable categories. Current demand exceeds supply and supply is limited by ramp up on new components, primarily batteries.
Some EVs have a big premium but if people are buying them at that price, why wouldn't automakers sell them.
Plus as mentioned operating costs do help to offset the differences.

Vehicles in general. Most peoples comments on here are a joke. If they seen the crap that goes on in dealers by the manufacturer they wouldn’t be justifying the cost of the vehicles. Etc: our battery chargers are 20k each (non ev chargers) and have no choice in the matter to buy them. If you seen the list vs cost of parts and how much they fluctuate and adjust prices according to sales made in comparison to years before. Our average price trucks that are gas are averaged at 60k dollars. I paid 115k for our home. That to me is not okay. I think it’s funny that manufactures hide the exact dollar amount being made on every vehicle sold. The dealers cost on these vehicles are way lower than sticker to begin with. It’s all BS

3:50 Roman, the Lightning charging station is also 19.2 kW (80 A x 240 V = 19.2 kW), but you have to install a 100 A circuit because you should only be drawing 80% of rated capacity for longer durations. Also, if Ford is leveraging the CCS standard for their bidirectional charging, that is probably something that can be unlocked through software on most newer CCS EVs using the latest standards and protocols.

The 32 A, 6.6 kW onboard only became a standard in the last 5 years or so, but with the 2022 model year, it appears that most automakers are transitioning over to a 10+ kW onboard charger. Re EVs being too expensive, many people here who have converted state the same thing: “my monthly car payments are nearly completely paid by what I save in gas vs electricity “.
Important to note that gas is expensive up north, 4.56 USD/US gal (way north! Like Montréal north ;-) and electricity is relatively cheap at 0.09$/kWh or 0.07USD/kWh.
So are they expensive? Remember that if you have traffic where you live, which I doubt as Montreal is the only place with terrible roadways, orange cones everywhere and construction which basically hasn’t stopped since Samuel de Champlain founded the place some 350 years ago, then all the idle time consumes MUCH less energy than an ICE car which is basically getting 0 MPG.

Electricity in Canada is cheaper because they make extensive use of Hydro Power. Here in America, the Greeniacs are pushing EV's but tearing down dams in the PNW. If we are ever going to have EV's on the scale we have ICE we are going to have to build more Nukes. Wind and solar won't cut it.

Leaving out all the details, I've tried the math every which way. EV just doesn't work unless I add it as an additional vehicle, or I replace my vehicle for 2000 miles per year (and maybe substitute for the minivan in a few carpool trips per week on days with only 3 kids - but those are next to impossible to predict for the afternoon run).

4:16 I would recommend spending a little less time focusing on peak charging speeds. What is far more important are the average charging speeds and the typical charging times. Yes, the E-GMP platforms do charge faster, but that doesn't always translate to better trip experiences.
A different way to classify EV fast charging moving forward is by using their average C rate to 80%. Something like the Chevy Bolt EV would take 1 hour to reach 80% (i.e., a 1 C EV). Something like the Tesla Model 3/Y, and VW ID.4 that should take about 30 minutes to reach 80% would be classified as 2 C EVs. And something like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and KIA EV6 that reach 80% in 20 minutes would be classified as 3 C EVs. It creates a much easier comparison point for consumers, especially with upcoming solid-state batteries promising as much as 6 C average charging speeds.
Using that standard, this Chevy Equinox EV (really, most of the Ultium line) should be classified as somewhere around a 2 C EV, but we'll have to see more data. So far, it appears that the charging profiles for the Cadillac LYRIQ and GMC HUMMER EV haven't been finalized, and they are charging a lot like the pre-update Ford Mustang Mach-E, which had an abrupt, significant stepdown in charging rate after a certain point.

@@anthonyc8499 I'm not sure GM is trying to be groundbreaking. At least not in the traditional EV sense. They seem to be focused on adding more and more new car features to their EVs. Sure, the Equinox will have ~150 kW DCFC, well over 250 miles of freeway speed range, plug and charge functionality, etc., but I don't think those are the things that GM is focusing on. Most of the EV advancements appear to be in areas that no one outside of a Sandy Munro would be able to identify until after a teardown (and maybe not even then, given Sandy's track record with GM EVs).
Also, GM has a lot of data on how people are actually traveling with their cars. These new Ultium platforms are perfect for occasional 400 to 600 mile trips with at least an hour worth of breaks broken up over the 8 to 10 hours of driving.

      @newscoulomb3705 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@anthonyc8499 I see, though I don't really consider 800 V to be groundbreaking. At this point, very few EVs actually take advantage of the higher charging or operating voltages (essentially just the GMC HUMMER EV, Lucid Air, and Rimac Nevera). Otherwise, there's not a lot to be gained from increasing the voltage unless the EV is capable of pushing past the 500 A limit of the public charging infrastructure.
The Cadillac LYRIQ maxes out at 500 A, which means the Equinox EV won't even hit that. When GM starts using lithium metal batteries that can charge at 5 to 6 C, then it would make sense for their entire lineup to transition to 800 V because even the Equinox EV would be able to pull more than 500 A with a 400 V pack.

In reality, 30 amps, even 20 amps of home charging is sufficient to meet most people's everyday needs. I personally have a 32 amp charger, but could satisfy the bulk of my driving needs with nothing more than a 110V power outlet. 100 amps is way overkill, but it doesn't add much to the price of the car and helps sell the car, why not? Just because the car is capable of accepting 100 amps doesn't mean you have to actually spend the money to install a charging circuit that can dispense that much.

Your actual semi-affordable EV is the Chevrolet Bolt EV/EUV but because of dealer mark-ups you are still looking over 30k and they have the battery fire stigma. You have the Nissan Leaf at around that price as well. While they say the Equinox EV will be "around" 30k, I suspect they will be over 35k with the higher trims over 40k.

Good looks & 250 miles range for 30k? Assuming it doesn't catch fire like the Bolt you can sign me up.

3:40 19.2 KW Pumped into the car for 51 miles of range in one hour. If the car has 250 miles of range, that means a useable battery size of 94KwH. If the range is 300 miles, that implies a 113KwH battery. That's pretty big/heavy. Will be surprising if they can keep the price down with batteries that big. Maybe they are counting on battery costs declining?

This looks so much better than the Bolt. It still has a little of that GM rental vibe, but it's good enough. I would drive it for the right price. Maybe $35,000.

If GM can hold this to the $30-50k range they will have a hit in their hands. Much better value than the Tesla and cheaper than the Hyundai/Kia EVs. It will also potentially have the tax credit.

      Ya but they have the bolt EUV already. Bolt EUV 170″ L x 70″ W x 64″ H current ICE equinox 183″ L x 73″ W x 65″ H. I don't get it.

A good-looking GM vehicle. That's a big change. (Yes, I know the Corvette is a good-looking Chevy. But that is the only other one.)

I like the way the Blazer looks, although it's just like the Mustang Mach-E to me. A good looking vehicle with the wrong name. Like I get that there's progression changes, but those are a total slap in the face.

EV or not, love the styling Chevrolet is going with. It's almost like they left Michigan and joined this century! Beautiful styling for the Equinox.

100 Amp circuit is needed for an 80 Amp 240 Volt 19.2kW charger. 80% rule.

I drive a Niro ev....great car but fwd and relatively slow dc charging are my 2 complaints....equinox fixes that at a very good price

We are waiting on ours already. We have 7000 dollars equity in our 2020 Bolt. Our Bolt does get the 255 miles in 107 degree plus weather out to Vegas and back on cruise control. Cost 36 bucks and freezing cold A/C even while fast charging during lunch at Baker CA. I like the BIG tires on the Chevy EV over the thin tires on a Tesla that last 30 to 40 thousand miles. Ours will go far past 60 thousand miles and brakes over 100,000 miles. 1-2 dollars a day to operate

What do you think the chances are of a bidirectional charging option?

Good for GM...although the specs sound like a 2017 Tesla. Maybe the slower fast charging, smaller battery (range) keeps the price down. Probably $40,000-ish?

Those 2017 specs were also like $80k-$100k.

I’m so getting one. I just want the base model nothing special. I have a 2017 bolt and in which I love but need more room. I’m loving that dark red color and the blue/white combo. I’m so torn lol. Can’t wait to get it

So the company that can't keep interior panels from coming loose and has sucky quality control is 'killing it' because they're readying a Chinese EV?
Guys...please. People want better gas cars, NOT EVs.

  • @rkgsd
    @rkgsd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hard to believe this EV is actually 3" longer than Model Y, but if they're saying it's 7" longer than the gas Equinox, that put it at 190" long. That's just a little over 1" shorter than the Blazer EV!
