I had one very stubborn screw at the end that I needed to dremel a huge notch into to unscrew! A few sparks flew as I sawed into it Haha, but its away now and I can start the real work!
Many thanks for this video, Yanko. I am an owner of the Alienware M14x R2 and the cooling is getting weaker and weaker. I suspect a dirty fan and more importantly a very old and brittle thermal compound. I'm going to follow your video to completely clean and put in new thermal compound (arctic silver). Thank you for this!
Hey mate, excellent video. I suspect I have a faulty HDMI chip on mine. Do you know if the HDMI chip/connector can be changed on these or do I need a new machine?
@@LaptopDisassembly yes it does. Unstable though, the slightest movement of the cable makes the connected monitor go on and off. I suspect it's the port, but will test with a new cable tomorrow
probably is the HDMI port, not the chip. First replace or resolder it and test. This can cause a freeze to bios also. the laptop cant detect the monitor properly....
Hello, my r2 ended up so muddy and sticky from the dust that I don’t know how to clean the entire LCD carcas “the back part where it has the alien face” without removing the matte finish from the case, can you help me out with any tip? Or I have to clean it deep with pure water or anti grease products and it will lose all the matte paint?
Hello..what does it mean if there are 5 beeps when starting the m14x r2? I thought it was because of a bad battery and ram so I replaced those. But I still get those 5 consecutive beeps at startup. Is it because of the cmos battery need to be replaced?
That is what has happened with mine - five beeps which means it is the CMOS battery with an hour's work just to get at it! Anyway, you can bypass the beeps by repeatedly pressing the 'Fn' key after you've pressed the 'On' button.
no you don't need just take off the screws of the fan and you can clean it no need to replace the thermal paste.... the thing is, as long as you amost totally disassembled that damn crap called a laptop it's better to do a full maintenance.... don't forget that crap is not designed to be take into bits it's trowable garbage that's all it is....for clean the fan the best way is to do it like 2 time/ month without disassembling the laptop so you never have to disassemble it you inject air pressurized by the output air port of the laptop and before doing that you just take off the bottom cover and that's it. i still use that laptop and i like... well, t's really not a gamer machine anymore.... but it's good battery last long enough for me and it's enough for everything that is not game or well, something like half life 2 XD and i upgraded it to windows 10 and a SSD so it's rather fast. i've of course put a thumb up because it's the way to take into bits that laptop i've watch it because the subwoofer not work on mine and i have no idea why... it never worked but since that thing come from dumpster dive and i've put it back together in a really fast and dirty way to test it and i not remember if i've check everything before the last assembly well... who know maybe i forgot to plug it and i wanted to know where is the plug before i amlost totally disassemble it at all... but it look like it's not nice i have to take it almost totally into bits again.... DAMN!!
Well this is not working at all. Firts try to resit the ram memory. Check do you have picture on the external hdmi or vga.. Also try reconnecting the display cable.

When I have anything plugged in the HDMI port, the machine doesn't load past the BIOS. When there's nothing connected to it, it loads fine
