      I always thought that we all drew and that some of us just never stopped but some artists, even some really great ones, only took up the pen a few years ago after never having an interest. I think art is more about being able to visualise your thoughts rather than your ability to draw a line or a circle.

      Hi @John Doe - Try to think of the things you find hard to draw. The hardest to draw. That's how you are going to get better. Don't try and draw the same thing over and over. If you hate drawing horses because they are hard then become the HORSE MASTER!!!!!! If it's hands then do that. Jim Lee got turned down by Marvel comics because he sucked at drawing hands and then he went away and practiced. He tried again and got in. Since the 90's until today, he's been one of the most accomplished and highly paid comic artists in the world because he took on the challenge! Good luck!

      Yeah, a lot of 'so called' tech reviewers only unbox tech and that's it. Even tech reviewers who call themselves artists - hahahaha! They play with the stuff for 5 minutes and that's it. I test things out for two weeks - a month before I even turn on the camera. (Sometimes I will re-box it and then unbox it but I'm gonna stop doing that now). I hate that most reviewers don't know about the tech. I answer most every comment too which is why I push myself to know as much as I can. I never sell tech on afterwards either which is something else most TH-camrs do.

    Hey Lawrence, question re your experience with the mount itself. When it comes to mounting to a nice solid-wood desk, how much concern would you have about imprints left behind, if one wanted to move the mount later? The weight doesn't seem too distributed between those little rubber pads! Was disappointed to not see a larger rubber surface. Thoughts? Great video!! 🙌🙌

    Very useful video, thank you! I wonder if you could say what the clearance of the LX is please? ie: with the arm at it's lowest position on the pole and with the monitor lowered as much as possible (like at 16:57 in your video), what's the rough height from the desk surface to the highest point of the arm? (where it pivots vertically between the two large arm sections)
    The reason I ask is because I have two large monitors at the back of my desk and I'd like to push my Cintiq back up to them at low level when not in use. I'm wondering if the lowered LX arm would slide under the monitors or not....(the gap from the desk to base of the monitors is about 6" but I could raise it up a bit) Cheers!

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You shouldn't use extensions with tablets. They are great with monitors but not for tablets. You can clamp your arm to the side of the table or drill through and attach the arm at the mid-point of the desk.. I did this in one of my earlier Ergotron reviews - worked great.
      You put weight on the tablet when you lean on it. That can cause movement. Movement that is amplified when you add arm extensions.

  • @RathboneIllustration
    @RathboneIllustration 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi there, I purchased a ‘cheaper’ arm from Amazon for my Wacom Cintiq 22 which works ok. However when I draw towards the edges of the screen, the screen swivels as there is no way to tighten/lock the swivel joint. Is that the same on this model? Can you lock/tighten the swivel to stop it swivelling, or is that experience to be expected on all makes of arm?

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which arm is it? The Amazon Basics one that looks just like this or one of the cheaper ones that looks very different?
      Ye with the Ergotron you can tighten it up a lot but it also depends on the tablet you are putting on the arm. You have to make sure that the arm is the right weight and size for the arm - I made a video about how to choose an arm. You can't just go by max weight and size because those specs are set for monitors and not tablets which are used differently. If you have a tablet which is at the max weight it might be stable when you just let it sit still but it will wobble when you draw on it - that applies for all brands of arms.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will hit the wall ...but it's not as if it's a wheelie chair that you're gonna spin around just for fun. Mine is up against the wall but has never hit it because I don't 'wang' it around. The worst thing I've ever done is knock over a drink that was too close to the arm.
      Those arms that are designed to not hit the walls are the 'L Bar' designs and they are okay for monitors but not for drawing tablets btw.

    Hi there, I’m thinking of purchasing the Wacom flex arm for my cintiq 32 pro. Have you had any experience with this particular arm? Or should I go for the ergotron lx sit stand arm which I’ve seen you review. I like the fact you can bolt this arm to the table instead of clamping.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The standard Ergotron LX arm will NEVER support the Wacom Cintiq Pro 32. You will damage a very expensive tablet if you try this. Maybe not when you first mount it but at some point that arm will give way and send your tablet crashing down to the ground.
      It is a great arm but not meant for a tablet that large or that heavy.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a big desk! I know how you feel. Yes over extending the arm or pushing it to maximum isn't best. These are made for monitors rather than drawing tablets.
      My advice; there is a bracket included which allows you to fix the arm to your desk by using a bolt rather than the clamp. You have to drill a hole in your desk but you can drill that hole anywhere. I have shown this done in one of my previous Ergotron videos (Ergotron LX Sit Stand for Wacom 27 QHD) and it works great on a deep desk. Obviously you might not want to grill a hole in your desk but it works really well to get your arm right in the middle and really stable!!

    Lawrence! First off, great content. Nice to see someone reviewing these things too.
    I have a couple of questions if you could spare a few minutes of your time?
    1. For a setup with two monitors, 24.5" and 27", would you steer away from the LX side-by-side model due to space issues?
    2. Your Cintiq 27QHD is probably just the same size as my 27" monitor. With the regular sized pole variant,
    how far up could you raise your Cintiq from your desk, roughly? And at the height you achieve, is it possible
    to have the Cintiq / monitor pushed backwards to the back of your desk (closer to the pole mount), or does it have to be right in front of you?

      The joints? Yes. They have to be. Otherwise the arm will seize up and break after a short amount of time. Do NOT wipe that grease off. If you have, then nip to the DIY store and grab a can of mechanical grease to replace it. Either way it's not a bad idea to reapply that every few years for artists since we are heavy spinners. it would be so great too see maximum of wobbling. it would be much easier to choose ergo stand or not.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Of course you are going to get less wobble on the ErgoStand if that is your only consideration but the amount of movement you get on any arm is based on how you adjust and on how you use your arm. A skilled artist will have not problems using this arm wobble free but if somebody is going to lean on the tablet like the incredible hulk they will notice that movement. True you have to adapt your way of working with a monitor arm but nobody should be leaning on a tablet anyway - it damages the screens. So yes, it is 'easier' to go for an ErgoStand but is it better? I have to say no to that. The stands are bulkier, take up more desk room and don't allow you to move around and stand while you work which is a massive benefit to your wellbeing. Love the question btw! Thanks for asking.

Plus it's nice to see that my opinion of the standard LX arm hasn't changed - it's still a great arm for most tablets.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would just be a straight up and down action then with a rotation axis where it attaches to the tablet if you could. Unfortunately you cannot. I would like to see that as a potential option though! Nice thought. I'm not sure it would be more stable but it might be an option to explore for Ergotron if they haven't already. That said, I'd quite like to see the limbs have the option to lock in place.

  • @JacobHalton
    @JacobHalton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Do you get any wobble with this?
    I'm using a similar setup, but I think the arm might be a slightly older model, and if it's in the air it wobbles.
    The monitor needs to be resting on a surface in order to stay still, and I've managed to rest the monitor on some stands so I can reach a keyboard underneath, but it would be nicer to not need the stands if upgrading to this arm would fix it.

    • @LAWRENCEcanDRAW
      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you have a monitor on it or a drawing tablet? How often do you retighten / adjust the tension screws - many people don't do this after they set it up but you do have to readjust it as time goes on. Especially if you are moving it constantly and drawing tablets do this more than monitors.

      Oh yeah that tablet is way too heavy for that arm. You need the HX or the LX HD Desk Mount LCD arm. I have a video about picking the perfect arm for the correct drawing tablet. It isn't the same as picking the right arm for a monitor. The 27QHD is a very heavy tablet. The LX arm will just about hold it but yeah, like you said, it has to sit on the desk too. Yes. The limbs are adjustable so you have control to do that. Resting your palm on your tablet shouldn't cause an issue if you buy the right arm for the tablet. But if you lean to much on the screen then that isn't good for your tablet anyway.

    Hi Lawrence, I JUST bought the Wacom Flex Arm for my 24 inch Cintiq Pro from Amazon yesterday and I saw your video today. What do you think about the comparison between Ergotron LX arm versus the Flex Arm? This arm is significantly cheaper than the Flex Arm! And if Ergotron LX works well with 24" Cintiq, do I need to purchase anything in addition? Thanks so much!

      I have both. Probably the only person. It's probably a good idea that I should make a video. When I first saw Wacom's I was upset about it but seeing them side by side, they are different. I can tell you that the Wacom is ballenced differently and moves slightly differently. Obviously to handle the tablet. I haven't tested the tablet on the Ergotron but I would certainly choose the Wacom arm for the Wacom tablet.

      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep. I know. Ergotron told me they didn't want me to specifically mention that that. I could if I wanted to but Wacom didn't want it. It is basically the Ergotron HX arm with a few tweaks. I have both and have reviewed the HX arm. I also did a video about the early designs of the Flex Arm adaptor. That was interesting. I personally would like to see more tablet arms made. Monitor arm companies know that tablet users do use the arms but the amount of us doesn't make it worth it and we seem to be able to use normal monitor arms okay.

      I never do comparison reviews. You'll never stop doing them if you start. Everyone will ask for something different because they are trying to decide between this and that themselves. I get requests all the time but never for the same thing twice. It's funny but very telling. People just want to be told what to buy. The truth is that every purchase is a very personal decision and I can't make that decision for anyone because of factors like what apps people use, technique, level of skill and a lot more.

      'Better looking' is subjective but yes the HX can support heavier loads AND larger bigger screen sizes. That's important. To tablet users it also means more stability. The standard LX cannot hold the Wacom 27QHD and keep it stable enough to work on comfortably.

      @LAWRENCEcanDRAW  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The Amazon Basics arm is cheaper because it comes with no guarantee and has not been stress tested or indeed tested or approved to the same levels as an Ergotron arm. If you are putting expensive tablets or monitors on an arm then I always suggest spending a little bit more on the arm - that's my personal opinion. The Ergotron arm comes with a 10 yr guarantee.
      I understand the want to save money on an arm and it's much the same as buying a budget tablet. However, you will upgrade your tablet every few years but your arm will last a lot longer and you want to make sure you have the best arm possible if you are going to continuously moving it around with an expensive tablet on top.

      Amazon vende su propia versión de marca que se ve bien y cuesta menos. Si desea una versión más barata, esa es la que debe considerar.
      Sin embargo, es más barato porque no viene con una garantía extendida y no está garantizado por 10 años como el brazo Ergotron.
      Si está colocando una tableta de dibujo costosa en un brazo, debe asegurarse de que el brazo sea de buena calidad para soportar el peso y el movimiento de la tableta mientras está en uso; por eso recomiendo los brazos Ergotron.
      Solo recomiendo productos que yo mismo pruebo personalmente. Entonces diré que mi sugerencia del brazo de Amazon no es un respaldo.
