    BUT WHY CAN ENERGY NOT TAKE NEXT QUANTA OF HF? Ignore the plancks formula for a second, ON A PURELY INTUITIVE level, what stops energy from taking next quanta step when I am capable of increasing frequency?

      Energy and matter are both quantized. Energy can be absorbed and emitted as hf or multiple of hf. Absorption and emission of light by an atom is similar to taking steps on a ladder. We can step from one support to another but can't step between.

      You cannot increase frequency on your will, you cannot dictate nature, energy levels inside the atoms are quantized, you cannot put or remove energy, which is less than or more than the required amount of the level.
