  • The 2019 season will see SRO Motorsports Group unite the sprint-format championships formerly known as the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup, Blancpain GT Series Asia and Pirelli World Challenge GT to form a new global initiative: the Blancpain GT World Challenge.
    This exciting international endeavour will present GT3 manufacturers, partners and teams with the chance to compete in worldwide customer racing and measure the success of their achievements on a truly global scale.
    Each series will retain its present status as an individual championship and will be known as Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe, Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia and Blancpain GT World Challenge America.
    Drawing inspiration from the concept successfully pioneered in the Intercontinental GT Challenge, where manufacturers compete through local teams, each GT3 manufacturer will be able to establish a line-up of 12 drivers who will score points for their brand in the overall Blancpain GT World Challenge.
    They will be split across the three continental sprint series, with four competing in the GT World Challenge Europe, four in the GT World Challenge America and four in the GT World Challenge Asia.
    To fully integrate all classes of driver, each group must include a star (classified as Platinum); a good professional (classified Gold); an up-and-coming driver or a very experienced non-professional (classified Silver); and a Gentleman driver or former star (classified Bronze).
    With major manufacturers striving to demonstrate their excellence in the competitive arena of international customer racing, the new Blancpain GT World Challenge will take on-track competition to a new level in 2019 and beyond.

    Whoever runs the cameras for Blancpain does an excellent job. So many race series do camera angles that erase the sense of speed, but Blancpain really brings the pace to life. Put it this way, I don't even like Silverstone as a track, generally. I respect its pedigree, but I think it's too big, flat, etc. for my taste. It's just not my style. But the footage of this race made me enjoy it more than races I've seen at some of my favorite tracks. Awesome stuff.

    It's so cool that Blancpain streams these races. I've become such a big GT3 fan because it's so accessible to watch. Blancpain gets it man, they know how to take advantage of the technology available.

    This series is very intense with a lot of cars. The coverage plays its part too, especially the commentators. As individuals David Addison and John Watson might not be the best, but the when you put them together into the booth for Blancpain GT series, the outcome is something special. Something that perfectly fits and emphasizes the intensity of the race itself.

    Terrific race and superb coverage all round. I really enjoy David Addison and John Watson's commentary. Only thing that spoils Blancpain coverage for me is so often cutting to a gasping/cheering/desolate pit crew DURING an overtake!! Please Please Blancpain TV Director, wait till the pass is well and truly over before cutting away from the cars! Blancpain keeps doing this unfortunately (2018 was similar) and it is very annoying.

    Great race, great coverage too.
    One thing: Please stop cutting to garages / the pit wall in the middle of exciting on-track action. It isn't interesting to watch other people look at monitors, this is motor racing, not Gogglebox.

    The way SRO is handling its caution procedure is dumb. They throw the FCY/Code 60 for a car in the sand. Great. Thats fine, but why delay the green flag another 5-10 mins and throw a safety car?!!!! What the blazes.
    I feel its intentional to artificially close the field up. So frustrating it throws the integrity of the competition and the spirit of endurance racing out the window.

      This time they intentionally closed the field up, because full course yellow gave a little bit maybe unfair advantage. Rule like longer pit stops during full course yellow could help.

      It was intentional, they even said it was..I think the clock should stop on a safety car..some one screwed up big time so everybody gets a free pit while the clock is stopped but your position is on you

    That last second accident WAS NOT 563's fault. It was the AMG's- HE came down on the Lambo and didnt give him and room on the inside

      Hazy J 563 went for a gap that was always going to close at that turn, I’ve seen plenty of dive bombs into that last turn after vale and all end up with contact. Plus you can see where 563 is headed he hits a bump on the kerb to stop drivers from doing such a thing.

      Honestly thats just dumb to say that. I mean, you are allowed to have your opinion, but Hawksworth can't do anything about a sudden and desperate dive to the inside in a place where overtaking never happens. I'm pretty sure most people would agree that it was all on Mapelli.

      @@theflagstand I would understand if he stuck his nose in the corner AFTER the AMg started to close the door, but he didnt. His nose was on the inside before the turn was initiated. Also, don't insult me over a disagreement in the youtube comments. Grow up.

      @@HazyJ28 Sorry if it sounded like an insult, but don't tell me to grow up. Mapelli went for a gap that was always going to close. Sure, the gap was not closed quite yet, but Hawksworth had no reason to expect that Mapelli would try something. A mature racing driver would know those kind of moves are extremely rare to work put well for anybody.
      I'm not blaming Mapelli, he was probably frustrated and made a bad decision. And I'm certainly not here to insult anyone. I just have to say it's unfair to call the situation on Hawksworth.

      If Mappeli’s move was a dive bomb then he would have gone way wide on the exit, and Hawksworth would have taken the position back...
      If one was to deem certain parts of the circuit no pass zones then we would have predictable races.
      In my opinion Mapelli made a good move, and Hawksworth’s reaction showed a lack of experience.

      In fact the noise you hear isn't any alarm. It is just the compressor, which powers the gearboxes of the Lambos and Audis. 😉

    This is the third Blancpain race I've watched. While I enjoy the racing, having a safety car out following every fcy is, IMHO, unnecessary and dangerous as it bunches up the cars, thereby leading to further possible incidents. Not only that, any gaps the racers may have built up are wiped out by the safety car, very unfair. They need to do away with this practice. WEC and ELMS don't feel the need to do this and actually try to avoid it. Otherwise, a fun series to watch.

      They use the safety car so drivers can get their brakes and tyres on temperature, I don't like it either though.

      It does seem like the most accidents happen when everyone is bunched together, plus you know those drivers can’t wait to open up again and immediately forget everything that just happened.
      I love how surprised the announcers always are about how aggressive they race early on..yea no shit guys it’s a fucking race..on wheels with pit stops..it’s not like the car needs to pace itself..every second counts shit every tenth of a second counts
