- A piece for Egyptian Ney flute inspired by Percy Bysshe Shelley's poem "Ozymandias".

A reed flute Ney is believed to be the most ancient musical instrument played up to this day. It dates back to predynastic Egypt 3000 BC and has a very simple design, it's just a piece of cane with seven holes in it.
These days Ney is a very common instrument in traditional Middle-Eastern music, in it's Turkish, Arabic and Persian variations. The one i play in this video is Arabic(Egyptian) Ney, tuning B Kiz.
I accompany the melody with Greek Bouzouki lute, Spanish Flamenco Guitar and frame drum Tar.

Dear where it is possible to buy this type of flute
arabinstruments.com has a good variety of neys. I have several neys made by Ahmad Abd El-Ghani, wonderful instruments. They also have tutorials, yt channel and forum, might be helpful for a beginner.
You can also check ebay for what's available. I recommend to stay away from neys that are made outside of Middle East, because those are often made of improper reed(too narrow) and are unplayable.
When the ney arrives make sure all the nodes are sealed tight and don't leak air, if not, fix it with transparent glue. After each playing wipe the chamber dry with cloth on a stick, if you don't, it will grow black mold which is dangerous for health and you will have to get rid of the flute.

First time I heard it I was delivering some wine and olive oil, I remember the gentle breeze that carried our ship in the way the ibis would follow our ship brings a tear to my eye.
That sounds so familiar. I remember travelling great distances in search for water under the hot, scortching afternoon sun. The breeze gently blew the sand as I rode my camel through the desert.

I really think or hope to believe that I was an Egyptian in a past life or way way way way wayyyyy up my family tree.
I can’t explain it but I just feel a huge connection when I hear music like this. The flute especially. It just takes me back and I feel like I’m going to the temple or the pyramids to show reverence to the Pharaoh.
