Wonderful ! The invention of the Oud goes all the way back to phaeronic Egypt and spread through the middle east. It was first brought to europe by the Mohammedan conquest of Spain around 900 a.d. It is the mother of the european lute and spanish guitar. Unlike the guitar it has no frets like any western classical orchestra viol instrument from the violin to the double bass. note: i don't believe it was religion in and of itself that caused the two super powers, the European North and the Arab, etc south to go to war with each other over circa 1000 years. Leaders who seek power and riches twist religion to be a force for war. In the last 100 years it has been the US and west who have been the primary aggressors in the world Whatever creed we follow, or what ethnicity we are, more important is we are all brothers and sisters of the one and only human race. So lets not let our leaders get in between our love for one another. We, especially we Americans just must say no to war and wars for oil. I just have to say, even as a Texan, I can remember the crickets and small critters that kept me fascinated when I was a kid out in the middle of nowhere and a small community of only 100 of us Hispanics who could only speak English. We forgot our language because we didn't care and we forget the simple chirps of birds because we grow annoyed, yet even at 24:53 the eloquent way Naseer recreates this almost ties me to my ancient Andalusian roots. I wish well on all who want peace and sing of God's little creations to help us remember.
I'm from Tunisia and I have Andalusian roots too, Spain and Portugal are beginning the long process of reconciliation between their Arab, Moorish History and their post reconquista & colonial History. Mexico and Colombia already started doing it and this will only bring us together.. Again! I'm eager to see what the post American Empire era holds for us, I can't wait to see the culture, the beauty, the life that our people will produce once they're freed of their chuckles.
May love, grace, and peace be upon all those who listen to this piece - even if only for the fleeting moment of it's playing - for life isn't that easy or simple. There's a nuance in this that you can't get with strict 7 note scales in western music. It sounds like this blends the feelings that come from major and minor keys together in a more unified way. My ears still identify with both, but this is calming in a way that western music seems to miss out on when locked into such rigid rules. But then the harmony between several instruments in western music achieves a different, unique characteristic that this misses out on. I like to think that these same concepts apply to out culture too. Diversity is *key,* to both music and culture.
you hit the nail on the head! This is what I thought to myself since my days in the eastern art conservatory. Arab music is continuous, western music is discrete. Like analog vs digital. Or if it were colors, our music would be analogous to having a pigment for every color, western music is like having 7 primary colors and mixing them to produce the desired color, instead of looking for a pigment that matches every color.
When I hear this, I think of the desert. I grew up in the desert, though then it was the Sonoran Desert. Where I am now, it's the Anza-Borrego. We go there for quiet and peace. We hear the wind blowing the sand, the skittering of lizards and insects, the campfire crackling, the very occasional barks of coyotes. The incoming storm. This music reminds me of that.
I"m Dutch. In my feeling, I do understand what you write.Never learned anything about your language ... but like the music, so nearby.. so easy, friendly... one.

An absolutely beautiful instrument that was the forerunner to the flamenco guitar. It evokes the culture of Arabic influences which enriched Spain and beyond. It's a shame that Islamophobia has enveloped the West to such an extent that we forget that the Islamic culture has so much wealth. Let every Muslim know that music can be our saviour.

It is about love. I am glad that poeple from all over the world could understand these notes. Even if one cannot understand Arabic, it could give sens to a piece of music. Nevertheless some knowledge of Arabic poetry would be of great help in this context. Love here is just spiritual and is of 14 phases and has 14 names. I do not know if one can detect 14 moments in this piece of music. Anyway music is still a universal language.
The oud has been a instrument peacefulness and peaceful easy feelings through out the ages. Every note renders flashbacks and sighs of a different times.
This is so beautiful. I am so happy for this video. Thank you. We learn about instruments through the walks of philosophy. Cultures traveling for centuries and languages mixing. The way every melody glides through the threads of my emotions and awakens my heart from its long slumber fills me with immense joy and gratitude for being alive. It also ignites a hunger for life, beauty, sentiments, and shows how rich and vivid an hour and nine minutes of pure bliss can be.

Or if it were colors, our music would be analogous to having a pigment for every color, western music is like having 7 primary colors and mixing them to produce the desired color, instead of looking for a pigment that matches every color.
iam a greek .i love orienral music .it speaks to my heart....με κάνει να κλαίω απο συγκίνηση....
Greetings from Holland. It sounds here the same. Most welcome.
Ognuna in totale rispetto. Un paradiso che sta a noi costruire.
I"m Dutch. In my feeling, I do understand what you write.Never learned anything about your language ... but like the music, so nearby.. so easy, friendly... one.

Gratulálok.
I discovered his music last year. After listening his music, he became one of my favorite musicians from all times and music geners. Always a pleasure to listen his music.
One of the best musicians from all over the globe!
Such a beautiful instrument! Bravo Naseer Shamma. I have a generation of Oud players in my family; my paternal grandfather, my father, my brother, and now my nephew all played/play the Oud!❤
Music unites, as politics divide - Let's support this fine and creative art albeit from any culture or nation. This is absolutely sublime music and Naseer Shamma is a master of the art.
Sadly politics has become a dirty word. Hope faith in its true meaning can b restored

Naseer Shamma, the very master of oud. Greetings from Brazil.

Islam of today is not what it was 700 years ago.
Noseir is " The God of Oud " not just a Master, sending so much love from Egypt to this Incredible Iraqi Artist.
Super !

In fact, music is universal...
But as information, I have to mention that the origin of the #oud is iranian, and the real name is #Barbat.
During the Islamic invasion, when these Arabs saw it they called it oud ( wood in Arabic), as it is made of wood.
All instruments with the prefix of #Tar like Guitar, Sehtar, etc..are from iranian language and culture.
Even the word of #Music is iranian, which is composed of Mu and Zik= Muzik
Mu= string
Zik = sound of ...
No offence, we all earth's children.
The only difference between us is our understanding and respect towards each other, if these Mullah allow us. 😅
my fascination with arabic is just how it can be so fluent...or perhaps all music ehich stems from pain must be fluent
Thank you Nasseer, thank you 🇵🇸 Palestina
It is about love. I am glad that poeple from all over the world could understand these notes. Even if one cannot understand Arabic, it could give sens to a piece of music. Nevertheless some knowledge of Arabic poetry would be of great help in this context. Love here is just spiritual and is of 14 phases and has 14 names. I do not know if one can detect 14 moments in this piece of music. Anyway music is still a universal language.
This is gorgeous. I'm in heaven.
The oud has been a instrument peacefulness and peaceful easy feelings through out the ages. Every note renders flashbacks and sighs of a different times.
It's amazing the way it sometimes resembles so much the Portuguese Fado guitar (influence of Al Andaluz for sure).
Thank you for this great master!
People are basically the same. They all call this connection (love)
This is so beautiful. I am so happy for this video. Thank you. We learn about instruments through the walks of philosophy. Cultures traveling for centuries and languages mixing. The Gilgarmesh Epic.❤️ NO more unnecessary wars for profits, weapons for contractors to make money to damage more people's lives. Humanity for all. LOVE TO ALL HUMANITY. ❤️
How beautiful is this man making music that goes deep in one's soul

This is amazing. Shades of guitar and sitar. Probably the instrument that influences both. The world is just one big culture. Peace ✌️
Well Stated !
you find sitar in oud and the very first sound reminded me of sarod in baba alauddin khan's playing.
The way every melody glides through the threads of my emotions and awakens my heart from its long slumber fills me with immense joy and gratitude for being alive. It also ignites a hunger for life, beauty, sentiments, and shows how rich and vivid an hour and nine minutes of pure bliss can be.
Beautifully said, thank you.
Ethiopian here... this is so soulful... and reminds me of our nostalgic mode of music called "Tizeta" created by kirar... a guitar like local instrument...
Good to see Teheran represented and kowwn for its beautiful elements.... 💜💜💜

master of melodies , greatest oud player for the last 30 years
I hear many echos of flamenco. That Moorish influence!
@@ABchart The medieval composer? Interesting. I'm listening now. A friend from Basra and I have been translating younger Iraqi poets for 2 yrs--one of the best is from Mosul, Rolla Barraq. Iraqi soul (but too much suffering for one country)!

I love the sound of this musical instrument,!!! Congratulations !!!
Increíble!... El sentido del mundo.
Grandioso! Gracias amigo mío desde Mallorca 🙏😊
Was very pleasantly surprised at the flamenco rhythms in the middle of the set. Though I really shouldn't have - Al-Andalus was part of the Arab world, and flamenco has oud/maqam influences to this day.

Very true. Amazing. Best oud I've heard. In guitar, I would compare this to Tommy Emmanuel's version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," a truly celestial piece.
I am happy I found this wonderful music to relax and end my day with.
Enthralling is the word. The music just holds you ransom.
Saw him live in San Francisco around 2008. Splendid artist.
Reminds me of the music of my home, Argentina.
What a beautiful, soothing music. Thank you for sharing it with the world.
