This was wonderful to see - so many great scenes. I vividly remember when Susan was a real vixen and did everything she could to break up Kim & Dan in the 70’s and still when Susan was too drunk for some very important meeting,( probably a hearing about Susan possibly losing her job related to her alcoholism). Kim helped her by throwing her in the shower to sober her up- it was a great scene. Some of the writers lost Kim’s compassion but let’s face it the one person Kim had difficulty empathizing with was Susan. These two were just so good at fighting that the writers kept trying to pit them against each other for almost 45 years.
The reason Susan was drunk in the shower scene with Kim trying to sober her up was because baby Emily was critically ill in the hospital with meningitis and I remember they tried to get her over to the hospital. Kim was finally successful in getting her there.
I remember being riveted by this storyline. 👍👍 I mean, I just couldn't Believe BOB HUGHES would cheat on KIM! And Doug Marland wrote the hell out of it!!! It was truly a must-see!
As awful as Susan may be, everything she says is 100% true. Susan, deep down, was a good person, she just had low people skills. Susan was such a unique character in that she was neither a villain nor a goody-goody, just a real person, a rarity in the soap world.
I think we saw plenty that Susan was immature. I don't think she was usually right. She was triggered by Kim and wouldn't do anything to stop her anger from taking over. I don't particularly like Kim, but it wouldn't have mattered what she said. Susan was a broken wheel that somehow kept spinning.
We’ll put. Susan was an awful wife to Dan and a MEAN drunk. Marie and the writers showed her character growth in a beautiful and grounded way. Kim weaponized her coolness and knew how to wind up Susan. Their chemistry was amazing
Love this. Brings back memories of when I would watch this show with my mom. I never knew all the bitterness between Barb & Susan. Amazing acting; something missing from todays soaps
Kim didn't give a damn about Susan!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 She gave her ass the business every chance she got!! I loved how Kim turned her snobbiness up to the 10th power just to get under Susan's skin. After Susan slept with Bob, Kim was like all bets are off! 😂😂😂😂😂
I LOVE how Kim and Susan were enemies (later friends) and that Kathryn and Marie were great friends in real life. I bet they had a BLAST with their on screen fights and could laugh about it off screen!!! RIP Kathryn, you were FANTASTIC as Kim❤😪🙏
Top notch actors. Top notch writing. The best of daytime dramas. I had the honor of meeting Elizabeth Hubbard and Eileen Fulton. Would have LOVED to also meet Kathryn and Marie. The women of this show were particularly amazing.
I never understood why the writers at the time would have Kim say lines like, "You STEWART women!" It makes no sense because Kim was a STEWART woman herself, being married to Dan. Andd as far as I know, she never had a problem with Ellen either!
I think Susan made sure that Emily and Ali were tied tight to her, and designated the three of them as The Stewart Women. Kim only used the term out of disgust, which was what Susan wanted.
When did Kim change her hair from black to red? Was it right after the affair? I can’t remember if it was part of the story line; a new hairdo to cheer up or something like that
I mess these old soaps My mom loved all the CBS soap or her stories she would say She couldn't believe that they would cancel the daytime soap shows she had been a fan of since she was a girl
It had nothing to do with respecting the Stewarts- it was just lazy writing in terms of actual history. It ALWAYS annoyed me when the last few writers would have Kim say something about the “STEWART women” because they didn’t understand KIM WAS A STEWART BEFORE SHE WAS A HUGHES. Kim loved the Stewart family- David & Ellen, Betsy & Emily. In fact when Emily first came back to town she was closer to Ellen, Betsy & Kim than she was to Susan, who had been a horrible mother to her. Emily even lived in the garage apartment when Kelley Menighan first took over the role. Emily was close to the Hughes until the late 90’s when new writers list track of historical character personalities and relationships. In the beginning, Kim was patient and compassionate towards Susan when no one else could have or would have been. Marland actually was the first to allow Kim to get angry with her. Marland also didn’t try to make one right and the other wrong in the Bob/Susan/Kim triangle he looked at each character’s perspective.. The last few scenes ( from the 2000’s) where Kim seems judgmental & mean are just the result of writers who didn’t get Kim. Kim and Bob, neither one, ever thought of themselves as saints or above anyone else. They both were very aware of their own mistakes and shortcomings. While it was fun to see the ladies argue, it was a departure of who Kim was before 2000. When Kim & Susan fought over Bob, it was still very much in character- Kim had a history of being victimized by Susan. It made sense that Kim couldn’t believe Susan and in the end she was right, Bob had developed some feelings for Susan. He always wanted to be needed and Susan needed him. It took him a long time to admit that but once he did, he and Kim reconciled and Kim and Susan buried the hatchet. By the way, Kathryn Hays and Marie Masters were good friends in real life.
@@roberthall5533 I think they screwed it up long before HS wrote for ATWT. When they had Emily turn on Margo and sleep with Tom, it through everything off. Besides Kim thought of Betsy Stewart as her own daughter.
@@Manuel-zo3wg indeed, may they be in the Light. They gave us such great entertainment; after all these years I can still enjoy the episodes. Just found out that I share the same date of birth with the late Kathryn Hays (Kim) and that she was also married to Glenn Ford for three years!

What? Oakdale was that cozy, little midwestern town where everyone knew everyone. All the rich history in these families. It wasn’t a glitzy or a scary place. It just felt like home.
@markc-ru4qz what about atwt made you not care for it??? I'm only asking because I felt the same way about All My Children. I thought there was not a lot of character growth on that show. Just curious to know how why.
@@samuellavon4846 I couldn't begin to explain it there were many reasons. But one thing I really hated was how Guiding Light was seen as a poor stepchild of ATWT (at least to me) which is absurd.

I was a wee tot during the drunk Susan 70’s and would go around the neighborhood impersonating her. “I’ll BET” was her catch phrase

One of the great tragedies of the cancellation of ATWT is missing out on Kim as the matriarch of the family.
These two terrific actress going after each other is better than anything going on in the soaps today. The genre has really declined.

Oh I loved this show. Watching it with mom at lunch break from work
Kim you slept with Bob while he was married to your sister Jennifer. And you’re hurt that he did the same thing to you??
I wish I could see their confrontations from the 70s. I wanna see how their fued started.
Susan was jealous that Bob chose Kim. Basically is what happened.
@@NEXTGENSKYN No it was because Susan couldn't let go of her ex husband Dan who was in love with Kim.

That last scene still makes me sad. I'd love to see a compilation of Kim calling people, "kiddo", and "pal.
I picked up the habit of calling people “Kiddo” and “pall” from watching ATWT videos until a coworker told me she didn’t like it! 🤣
