@@osalbaro it's a joke, GG has inspired pretty much ALL of the modern metal/rock scene. Every djent band back in 2010 had him as a God and from that it escalated pretty quickly to what we have today. The bar is pretty high all because of him, which is a good thing.

I watched The Aristocrats (Boing - live) while cruising down an acid trip; was chillin in my bed, headphones on, & this XL iPad was big enough to draw me into the screen. All I was getting (in every psychedelic way you can think of) is that Guthrie Govan, Bryan Beller, & Marco Minnermann are the “gods” of their instruments, achieving a level beyond mastery: at unity. They are literally demi-gods (if you consider a “god of music” enveloping each instrument and style too) among us. There are the greats who are prrrrretty darn amazing at their art, but there is a clear distance between them combined and Guthrie alone. Another ridiculous demi-god that popped up a couple years ago is Harry Mack (Ultimate Freestyle Rapper / Poet / Improviser / Realtime Story Teller) … fuuuuuck, I’m baked 😶‍🌫️ … anyway, if you’ve read this far, thanks for holding on with my trip 😂 … Adios 🚀🔥💀☯️👻

      A prodigy?
He can't write music though, he's more of a novelty act, a guitar nerd if you like.
Enrich yourself, there are far more tasteful players out there.

WTF he did 1 million tricks and techniques... and had a whammy / floyd rose system... and he didn't use it. Guthrie is INFINITE.

I don't think any other guitarist can touch Guthrie when it comes to technically advanced playing that is still deeply soulful and expressive. When he shreds it always sounds like he has something to say, not like he's just showing off chops.

Its fairly commonplace to complain that GG is still workshop demo-ing his Erotic Cakes tracks from 2006. But given that in every single case, they are made new, and really, just as vivid and bright as the originals (if not more so sometimes), its really kinda fun. Like meeting an old friend who's had a whole makeover and re-invented themselves - in good ways. And I think that is because when you hear the EC originals, the interplay between the thematic material and the improvisations is so fluid and natural, when you hear a completely different take on the same tracks and its just as fluid and natural, you (well, I) just give up and say, well that's Guthrie for you.

I'm just wondering, since he can obviously compose songs on the spot, why does he only have one solo album? He could be bashing them out left and right, but he doesn't seem interested whatsoever.

@@cheesofile666 I know, its really been a frustration for his many of his followers. I couldn't begin to answer on GG's behalf ... but would guess its a mixture of my observations above - that he still gets new things out of the old - with exacting standards re the composition element, and of course he is still writing regularly within the Aristocrats framework (where as I understand each contributes a third of the tracklist).

@@JacarandaMusic I suppose with his ludicrous inventiveness, nothing gets truly old haha. He's certainly been prolific, it's just surprising that he hasn't attempted to leverage his godlike talents into a full-on solo career. He seems to prefer being part of projects and collaborations.
