  • Sorry about the late upload. Had a busy Easter weekend.
I picked up a few Atlas (made by Rivarossi) 0-4-0 locomotives off of eBay last week. One of them is in real nice shape. The other, not so much. Let's see if we can get them running.
Here is the Spookshow page about this specific unit

Take the drawbar out and roll the pieces of shim metal to make them flat. The drawbar can be used in any orientation find the one that gives the best operation to.

I have one with the RR can upgraded with a new magnet tape field and a 5 pole armature by Tenshodo.
    It's an amazing critter.

I'm not to the point of repowering or performing electrical upgrades to my locomotives just yet. Well aside from doing questionable DCC installs. lol.

Originally they all came undecorated with a decal set in the box. Their power pickup was iffy. I loved mine but a switcher needs working couplers front and back.
The brushes wore down quickly. W Alsdorf

yeah switching needs good slow speed pickup. and it needs to be over a wide area for unpowered frogs and stuff.

Try replacing the two contact strips on the drawback with two lengths of copper wire with loops on the ends for the screws and the plastic between them for insulation. Just a thought.

My brother had the HO version of the 0-4-0. I really liked that thing!

Both of these will be available (together) as a giveaway prize once we hit 1000 subscribers. Which will hopefully be soon, only 45 more to go.

The first n gauge train set i got for Christmas was this engine and four cars in 1968 think my mother paid about 20.00 for it!

Interesting that the front badge on the smoke box door is stamped 96. My Bachmann 0-4-0 "shifter" is #96. Marked as PRR.

I imagine for cost savings they just left the cast in # on this one even though it's "Unmarked"

With these old units with the "pizza cutter" wheel flanges running them on Kato Unitrack can be troublesome. The wheels will sometimes rise up through the turnouts and rerailers.

    • @Trains-With-Shane
      @Trains-With-Shane  2 ปีที่แล้ว

You're probably right. Although I haven't had any other trouble with any very old stuff on these turnouts wanting to jump around. It may be a combination of huge flanges and bad wheel gauge.

You mentioned the quartering but there is no quartering on this loco; the front axle is not connected to the rear axle like a prototype would have. Both axles run off the same gear but it doesn't matter how the front axle is situated.
