Hello just a quick question is the coupling and uncoupling part of 3a test or do you still do it before road test. I start my course for my c+e next week.
Question: I'm trying to pass my class 1 test but twice I've failed now on the same thing. It involves being parked on the side of the road and then moving off when I'm ready. So twice there has been a que of traffic behind me. So I indicate right to move off -- but then the cars behind me start overtaking me, PREVENTING me from continuing. So I wait. And I wait, but the traffic behind me isn't letting me go. So I wait, but if I wait anymore the examiner will likely fail me. I can't wait forever so I have to move on at some point. So, FINALLY, traffic behind me stops and waits for me. So I finally move off. As I'm creeping, about to start gaining speed, the traffic behind me starts overtaking me again. So my question is WHAT DO I DO AT THIS POINT? If I stop then I could cause the car behind me to brake hard, thus failing my test, or worse, he might hit the rear of my vehicle. I've already made the decision to move as I at some point had to. But because the traffic won't let me go, it's like I'm in a DAMNED IF YOU DO, DAMNED IF YOU DON'T SITUATION. The only thing I can think of doing different is quickly indicating left and swiftly reduce speed to a crawl and then back to a stop to try and find better opening. I tell ya, these class 1 tests are no joke. They are so challenging.
Only pull out when it is safe to do so and dont rush. If traffic is overtaking then let them. If the examiner is failing you for not pulling out then you likely could have pulled out a few times already.
Cheers pal that's great can I be a pain and just ask if you could run through the disconnecting of the lines behind the tractor unit and in which order is right for your test please
I had the same question to my instructor last week as I heard that some drivers like to do it in a particular order. His answer was to just disconnect from the closest to you first to the furthest and vice versa for reconnecting to prevent getting mucky. They put extra emphasis on making sure you mention and check when picking up a new trailer that the trailer brake is applied and before you move away a light check is carried out.

Raise the unit slightly before tug test to avoid bending legs after numerous tug tests with legs fully planted to the ground.
