You have a lot of patience to fiddle with the fit. I'd just cut the sleeves off and wear it 😂. I do like to sew by hand but I'm allergic to sewing machines I always mess things up on them. I broke my last one trying to make face masks during covid.

Absolutely gorgeous. ❤I can imagine HOURS spent in making such things, and a little embroidery here and there, a little charm here and there, maybe make a skirt out of a t-shirt, or a contrasting pocket for the skirt … isn’t it just amazing how much more we get when we go back to our own wardrobes and let our imagination run a riot? Thank you for the lovely video. It reminded me of how our grandmothers and aunts would bring out their fabric stash and share during the holidays and when we would regroup, how we would all get new toys and clothes that was made of the fabrics that came from this aunt and that elder cousin or grandma and mum… we would be all be rainbows of history.
VERY likely. In fact, if you go to any Indian stores, you’ll find many Kurta (it’s a long dress to be worn with salwar, the bottom part). We Indians have so much history of hand embroidery that has survived because of being washed by hands and good maintenance that the embroidery remains vibrant even if the cloth that has the embroidery is falling apart due to age. Also, while most women keep their bridal sarees, when a grandmother is old and wants her children to have a “piece” of her, she would usually take the borders off the saree and use them for little dresses for the grandchildren or give the borders and zari embroideries to the daughter to make blouses or table cloths or whatever. The remaining silk is usually turned into soft handmade dolls and little appliqués for pillows and what not. Believe me, start thrifting, usually at an aunt’s/grandma’s wardrobe after you’ve finished your mum’s and sister’s. It’s always amazing talking about the history of the fabric and how the plans are made and the fighting over the details (sometimes even about 2 people wanting the same fabric) and the grown ups figuring out how to distribute and all the family bonding over it. Or you could just do it with your 3 friends who each bring 10 t-shirts… winters are coming, hot cocoa, scissors and needles and tatted laces and crochet the ends… make your own patterns and have fun. Actually thrift your own wardrobe and cut the clothes you want to discard. You might just have the most beautiful clothes from that pile!!!

How often do you thrift? You might not find the same this exact piece but there's always some treasure awaiting for you at a thrift shop!
