- In todays video the demo massey 5s is out and about on the john deere mower and goes mowing for the day. We see how does she handle as she's on the job due to the MF 6499 being out of action! Great video Phil it’s a great little tractor I was amazed you got down the lane taught you would be ringing for the telehandler jaysus it’s tight I’d say you would miss the big mowers
The 5S is just a brilliant piece of kit. They can handle all sorts. Neighbour has a 5S 145 and she can do some work
Great vid Phil, we use the 5711 at work, nice machine a little bouncy on road , the other Section at work got 4 5s 145 so will be interesting to see the difference between them
That was a bunch of grass the 5s did the job. Can't wait to see how it does with the big mower.

Don’t see why it wouldn’t run a fusion! A friend of mine used to run a fusion 1 on a 7610 Ford, obviously he wasn’t able to drive to fast as it took all the power to pack the bales but I ran it and they were smashing bales outta it! And that would have a good few more horses than a (at the time) 20 year old 7610
hi phil I have a new 5s125 and run front and back mowers on it and run the big square baler on to.

Might be a waste of time but u could try the triples on the 7618 it would make a very interesting video
i hadnt seen your comment, but I basicaly asked the same question, 3 mowers V 1 even at 2 gears lower V the 6499. Still cover some ground. Just for the 35 acres, not for hire.
I knew it wasn't a 3 cylinder, I'd love to know Phil how many times had you to fill her with diesel mowing that 50acres. I'm a deutz man at heart but the 5s are a lovely looking loader tractor If I was to buy 1 I'd go 5s145. Good video Phil.
Would you consider putting a loader on the 7618 ?
I was aways told if you have 4 wheel drive and you are in the field use it it will use less fuel and it will pull its self along easier 😮
Great machine but do you have to keep a waterpump in the tool box like the previous series of masseys 56/57?

i know all new tractors a nice to drive but its always good to have a nice conformable machine for the work. you'll really notice the difference when your using the loader. Reckon the fusion will probably be a bit much for it. Remember you we saying about maybe running a second fusion unit, have you ever looked at using the wrapper towed by the baler? would probably be a better operation for smaller tractors on softer ground.

It's a nice tractor, you can get the Dyna-6 on the 5S. Maybe someday even the Dyna-VT Vario transmission. And maybe next generation of 5S get a 140hp 3 cylinder, who knows :) But i would really like a 5S for myself, and a 8S for the heavy work ;)

Sometimes we forget what the horses are capable of... used to be 90-100 hp on a one pass ect now same size one pass is probably averaging 180 hp 😳... Good sized tractor that and I'm glad to see there is options on the supplied steering wheel.. stay safe 🏴
I know a man with a john deere 6210 (95hp) who used to mow with a 10 foot mower with a swather. Too much overkill nowadays
@@feirmfactor859yes. Many people were out with 8 foot mowers then the 10 foots with ford 7600s too. I suppose accidents happened too though only they were never told to the world
A 5610 and 5609 had a 3cylinder engine but they moved away from that and back to the 4cyl sisu
Have to admit I looked at the spec of the 5s after you said it was a 3cylinder and was a bit confused as said it was 4 cylinder! Think the 5610 was a 3 cylinder
Why didn’t you use the front mower with the John Deere mower on the 7618 like u used to use before u got the butterflies

hey, you should try out the 5s145 with electronic loading lever and driving lever, it's 4 cylinders and 147hp, I have one myself and am very happy with it.
I rekon its a really good size and power of tractor for mixed duties, a future classic to be.
5S is lovely I sat in one of the first 145s in Ireland. Nice to see 135 back the same as the OG! Do you ever use active track on the drone? I like it on mine in theory but trees are an issue
I do yes but every time I’ve crashed the drone it’s been on active track😂
@@FARMERPHIL3690 That's why I've never turned it on 😂 I think the new Mavic air 3 would be okay because it has 360⁰ of sensors but absolutely not letting my front back and down mavic air 1 fly itself. I think Massey need to make a drone for out of cab inspections and going for the dinner. Maybe in 3023....
I think the MF 47 series are 3 cylinder tractors. Up to 90 horse power (MF 4709) in the EU. High, low gears 1 -5 .
Great video Phil. You seem almost as happy with the 5S as you were purchasing the 3690 😂. I remember how amazed I was upgrading from my old Fiat from 1989 to the 6280 from ‘01. Looking forward to seeing her bang out bales like there’s no tomorrow. Take care now.

I think you're going to be pushing the boat out by putting on the Fusion but we will see
to be fair, those quicke loaders are easy to take off. We had never taken a loader off before because it wasnt worth the effort, but recently i was like ah ill try take it off, and probably two minutes and it was off. (aMassey 5612 with quicke X4s)
Masseys do seem to have come on a lot in recent years. I really like the look of the newer ones.
Massys were ALWAYS great tractors, expecially the 100 series, 188's pulling doublechop harvesters or its replacement the 590, But better but rearer was the 595. The 399 some tractor and manny still on hiire work today, dont forget the 2640/2720. They got thru some work. Harking back to the 188, PTO was actually 620/640? and not 540, so great at dung spreading with a Howard 500 side spreader. Got the job done. Also pull a 4 furrow (board) plough no problem. 4260 and that series also damm good tractors. Yes we get bigger tractors now to do same work, a little faster - yes, but not by the order of magnatude as the tractor has gotten bigger. Lets not forget other great tractors of that era, DB 1200/ DB1210/1212 DB 1410/1412 and the Zetor both 8011 and 12011 and their 4WD variants, 8045 and 12045. Then there was the Ford 3000, 4000 and 5000 before moving on to the 6010, 7010, 8200 and the TW series. So lots of great tractors ... yes. But I do like the 5S 135 and 5S 145. Dont forget the 30 series and 40 series John Deeres. Before someone kills me and says the 50 series, basically same as the 40 series for all intents and purposes- slight changes yes.
Finding a swivelling seat strange,30 years ago john deere had them in the 6000 and 7000 series.
Yeah the same with the newhollands they had swivel seats years ago

Hey farmer phil just looking bit of help where would be the best places around ireland witch im from wexford looking to buy a tractor to do hire work for me self
Not surprised it worked the mower. A local contractor here ran a similar mower with a grouper with a Lamborgini 105 ahead of John Deere 6900 chopper for many campaigns about 20 years ago. That had around 100 hp. No boost or anthing fancy
My uncle has 5 s 125 it about twelve months old runs a trail claas mower in the 1000 box no bother to it

She's a real pocket rocket, having 135hp makes a really versatile machine. What does the 99 use per hour in fuel with the triples?
It’s all about litres per acre for mowing, hourly for road work

Do you not keep the four-wheel-drive on all the time or do you just switch it on when you need it just curious when you’re in the field work
We only turn it on when needed as if you turn hard in a field with 4wd on it’ll tear the field slightly with the front tyres
why dont you put the front mower on 7618 with jd on the back

Great video. Using one mower seems very slow compared to the butterfly setup, you’re lucky the 5S arrived while the ‘99 was in bother. Keep up good work.

is that fuel usage good for the use of one mower? I dont have much experience with mowing, but it sounds quite thirsty?
had a 100-90 fiat with a john deere 8 ft mower and if u pushed it on it would drink 5 gallons per hour but that was a 6 pot motor ......
