Pandit Venkatesh Kumar gives a majestic and outstanding performance of Raag Patdeep in this clip, extracted from his first UK and international debut performance at Darbar Festival in London. His gayaki blends motley of schools ranging from Gwalior to Kirana and Patiala. This is a concert that left a packed hall spellbound and speechless and may be said to be one of Darbar’s best presentations. Satyajit Talwalkar (tabla), Murad Ali Khan (sarangi) and Tofail Ahmed (harmonium) provide a chemistry that takes this concert to a different level altogether.

I had never heard this pretty jhaptal bandish before. Thanks for sharing! I'm noticing in Darbar clips something of a resurgence in sarangi sangat----a very welcome development! I have learned to cope with the harmonium generally, but on some occasions----when it is loud----it quite literally drives me away heartbroken. Gyan babu's harmonium had a sweet tone, and he had worked out some technical magic for cajoling simulations of meend and gamak out of a harmonium. In my limited experience he came closest to salvaging the harmonium for raga music.
Another feature of the Darbar clips I appreciate deeply is the presence of two full size tanpuras. The tanpura represents the breath of the Mahadev, the life of the cosmos. I find it utterly shocking when I see artists launching into recitals without a tanpura. It is like raga music without God----there is no such thing!
(Is that Roopa Panesar on the tanpura? I tell you that young lady has completely charmed me! :) She is like an angel gliding in our midst.)
Okay, Murad Ali is the one of the finest young sarangi players I've ever heard! Always get to the heart ❤️

No wonderful this concert was a gem.... everything is so perfect and peace giving nothing can be compared.... and Venkatesh Kumar is as always ❤ his voice is just mesmerizing... with the sarangi it's of another level.

eagerly waiting for this and true bandish for me "kaun sukh paye" but a wait worth hearing and what to say about voice and the sarangi guy murad ji very well played sir. And each and everytime words feel less to explain about pandit ji am fortunate enough to listen to him . Why sound level of sarangi is so high? Quite disgusting. Spoiling the whole perfomance and on the other side sound level of harmonium is too low. WHAT'S GOING AT DARBAR FESTIVAL👎👎👎
Sarengi accompaniment is poor. My personal opinion.
