My mom died of vascular dementia i believe it was brought on by brain radiation for her lung cancer treatment. We were told that the lung cancer was gone that they got it all, after chemotherapy but the chance of a single cell going to her brain would prove to be fatal. My sweet mother chose brain radiation treatment and she beat cancer (so we thought). She got so weak, she lived 5 years after lung cancer diagnosis. She was cleared of cancer March 2024, had a stroke April 4th, lost use of her leg, never got better with physical therapy because she became child like and was hallucinating. Cause of death listed as pneumonia on June 30, 2024. Looking back, I believe the brain damage from radiation treatment caused her cognitive decline. We saw her getting more confused and had no idea she had vascular dementia til June, 20th, 10 days before she died. My poor mother. Her Dr's were lousy. We and she had no idea she had dementia. We would/could have done things better for her. We thought her UTI was why she was so confused after the stroke. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 rest with Jesus mom. We'll be with you soon. 🙏🏾

Hi Bobby Bobby, I'm sorry you're living with side effects of WBR. The good news...for others is WBR is only used in certain situations today and SRS is used to target just the tumor. Not a lot was known about long term issues of WBR because not many people lived long enough to have problems. You must be an outlier. My husband is an outlier too, not expected or thought to be cured. But here he is 10 years out from treatment with significant issues from the tumor and treatment and procedures. Again, I'm very sorry.
      Janine

Hey grace thanks for the kindness. I have watched the WBR move to targeted and radio surgery. And I am so glad for it. So glad they do not cook your mind will they try to save ones life. First 15 years where just nuts. Not many mange to survive past first 18 months. I believe that is why they call it practicing medicine. Had to have a lot of luck to get this far. Thank who ever for targeted Radiation. Great stride in brain met medicine. They have not followed up on me since 2009.
No need to be sorry. Thanks for your kindness. Tell your Husband one day it might get better I had a hell of a nervous break down in 2015. And actually trying to climb out of that whole I seemed to have a bit more of my mind back. Hope springs eternal. He is lucky he has you. It was me and my dog that had to try to figure it all out. Proud to be alive. Hell of a battle. Good Luck.
