Amazing. Thank you. I noticed while I was doing the exhale portion of the exercise that I immediately start engaging the muscles in my upper chest, my throat, and my tongue to control the air instead of pressing the pelvic floor down and controlling from below. I’ve never had an issue with the inhalation portion and I know I have good capacity, but I have always struggled with tension in my neck and tongue and I’ve had real difficulty controlling things like my vibrato at higher pitches or with any pitch with intensity. I could feel how that tension was choking off the air in an attempt to control it’s speed. Wow. This is going to be a valuable exercise for me. ❤

I really like this. Another method to strengthen the lungs, and improve singing over all, is whistling. For me it is much more difficult than singing. Hitting the exact note, key, and octaves. Sustaining notes takes much stamina and conditioning of the lungs. Much more air is flowing. Or hardly any air is flowing once conditioned. The conditioning of the muscles of the jaw and mouth with such precision as well aids in the exact movements of the vocal apparatus in the throat. Inhales and exhales with force correlates with the the practice of whistling.

In Tai Chi, the breathing should be natural and relaxed, maybe the commenter was thinking of Chi Gung, which does focus on breathing, along with movements to collect Chi.

Your videos are so interesting & helpful that I’m wondering if I’m misunderstanding this one. Pushing down on the pelvic floor can contribute to pelvic organ prolapse. Kegels - most women do them wrong - work counter to downward pressure by drawing in & up. ???
