    I've had mine ever since they first came out. Granted, you need a very calm day to fly it as it's extremely light. Never read the manual. It's so easy to figure out. Crashed many, many times. Even had to climb trees to retrieve it. Never needed to repair it. Still flies perfectly. Though I prefer fpv video, as a flyer, I love it. Terrific for indoor flying.

    Flashing lights - are there any other doggers nearby?
    I noticed the video was nice and stable with no jello. My friend recently got a UDI U829A and the smoothness of the video is amazing. Crappy camera quality though. We tried putting a mobius on it but a motor burnt out after the first flight!

    Hey Ryan nice review. Just FYI (and you probably know by now) the right shoulder button turns on and off headless mode. When the light is on (by default) headless mode is off. With headless mode ON you can press function and it returns to home. At least thats how the one I just purchased is, maybe these were newer features added after yours. Mine is a U818A-HD.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +FatalMusa Hmm, yeah those might be added, as I don't think they were there on mine. Either way, headless mode and RTH are worthless and unreliable, so I don't suggest using them anyway.

    When you charge it, are there any light indicators on the usb charger or anything that let you know its charging and when its done like a green light or anything. I got this one for christmas last year and kinda put it away in storage couple months ago, but finally decided to take it out, but cant tell if its charging the batteries or not.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! :) Yeah, sure, this would be okay for a beginner, but keep in mind that they'll want to practice on very low wind days. The wind will really blow this thing around with that large frame, and that can make learning hard.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Landon Oine Yeah, a motor can completely freeze up like that. You might check the gear system to make sure there isn't a problem there. If you have to replace the motor, that can be a bit tricky, and may require soldering.... I don't know if this quad's motors are soldered onto the main board or not. I am also not sure if they sell motors specifically for this quad, or if you would have to find replacements that would work.

    Why the hell does my helicopter keep spinning.since I got it from out the box.(sky rover phantom helicopter). I keep adjusting and doesn't work.
    Do you adjust it or does it usually fly well like that

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheRelaxingTakeo It may just be defective. Start with the trim dial in the center, and then rotate the dial in the opposite direction as the heli is spinning. If you can't get the spinning to stop, it's like that one of the motors or gears is damaged, thus making it so that the two rotors don't move at the same speed, which would cause the spinning.

    I just got one for Christmas. It didn't come with two batteries, just one already placed in it. The manual has horrible English. Nowhere does it say what the range is or expected battery life. Of course, with no homing function you'll want to keep it in visual range. Can't wait for my one battery to finish charging so I can give it a try! This video was helpful as far as expectations go.

    • @jamesfoster7310
      @jamesfoster7310 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the model being reviewed there is a spare battery inside the control unit and a return home function if you use headless mode

    • @philliphodges8810
      @philliphodges8810 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Foster As I said, I just got this for Christmas. The only thing inside the controller is a place to put AA batteries, and this model does not have headless or home at all, so you're the one who is thinking of the wrong model or something.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine definitely came with two batteries. And, IIRC, you enable headless mode with the right bumper. In my review I thought that was just turning the LEDs on and off, but commenters say that the LEDs turning off is just the indicator that it is in headless mode. And then maybe the function button works as return to home while in headless mode. But, keep in mind that both of those modes are worthless and unreliable, and RTH simply flies backwards... it's not like it actually returns to where it took off from.

    • @kamarithaxton336
      @kamarithaxton336 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Phillip Hodges I got one for Christmas as well. Did you look in the little bag with spares?

    • @quimrider1
      @quimrider1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not all versions have the headless/return to home mode. The version you have the "headless mode" button does just turn off/on the white LEDs. I belive it is the ones that say HD+ on the box that have the headless mode. Not sure why they wouldn't have a different model number to better differentiate which ones have headless and which ones do not.

    Hey Flyin' Ryan..or anyone!! maybe you can help me. I soldered in a replacement motor, and it powers up as soon as the drone gets plugged into its battery. This motor spins, the other 3 behave themselves and wait for the control to poser up. I know my connection is correct, (its like, two wires, lol ) another one tried does same thing. Is the board screwed somehow. it got hung up in a tree and one motor got jammed and burn it self out. Is it possible there is board damage. I'm stumped, checked the polarity all the motor hooks up to the board. I mean. ?? help. thanks.

    enjoyed the review, I have a aee Toruk ap10 now and is great for outdoors, however, its a bit much for indoors. I'm interested in something for taking photos and videos indoors and starting researching the UDI. The video looks good that is takes but does the camera adjust up at all? It seems to point down too much to capture stuff right in front of it or was that just the way it was flying? Also, how are the still images? thank you Flyer RC!

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Matthew Crans This is pretty big for indoors. And, I am not sure about still images... I don't really test those, as they are always pretty bad and blurry since the quad is always moving and vibrating, so focus is usually pretty bad. I don't recall about the camera angle, but I may have discussed the angles it can do in the review. You might consider a micro quad for indoors, like the Syma X11C.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curtin Razors I think the frame would make it likely to get pushed around by wind when flying high enough to film over a game. You might want to consider something like the Syma X5C (or the newer redesigned X5SC) or maybe even the bigger X8C, depending on the experience level of the would-be pilot of it.

    What quadcopter that you have reviewed had the best quality camera for less than $200?? That's the aspect I'm most interested in. Or is there any quadcopter that you can attach a phone to? I'd love that.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kieran Fitzpatrick Well, that's a hard question to answer, as anything under $200 doesn't have a great camera. If you want to get serious about aerial videography, you're best off attaching your own camera, like a GoPro or Mobius Action Cam. A phone would be overly heavy and expensive for this use. Otherwise, you're looking at some decently-stable 2MP 720p cameras available with quads, or some newer models with 5MP 1080p cameras, but they all seem to have quite a bit of 'jello wobble' effect.

      +wreek havok No return to home (that feature is only even somewhat reliable with GPS, and this does not have GPS). I don't recall if it has headless... if it does, I would mention it in the review. Headless Mode is worthless though, and I do not suggest anyone use it for any reason. It is unreliable and only teaches bad habits.

    Just got one. This is my first quad copter. I have been practicing in the garage. Feeling confident enough to take it outside. If only the weather would cooperate.
    How far can it fly away form you? And what happens when it goes too far?
    Great video! Well done.
    Thanks.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Charles St Clair Not sure about range... it's best to not fly long-range to avoid any problems. And, if you fly out of range, it should go into a low-power mode and "land", but again, it's best to avoid flying that far away.

    I'm new to drone/quadcopters but want an indoor/mostly outdoor copter, what would you suggest? Would this one be worth the $75 amazon price tag? Eventually I want to work up to the CX 20 or comparable. Thanks

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jon Mahoney Yeah, this would do, if you have low enough wind to fly it... it can be easily affected by wind. I usually recommend the U816A to beginners, since it's smaller and you could practice indoors with it, and not have to worry about the wind. I wouldn't suggest flying the U818A-1 indoors, at least not until you have a good feel for it, since the prop wash bouncing off your furniture, etc, will make it really turbulent and harder to fly than it would be outdoors in an open area. Here is my video for beginners, where I discuss my suggestion of the U816A, and give some tips on learning how to fly: th-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/w-d-xo.html

    • @mahoney1138
      @mahoney1138 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I watched your video and it was great. I just thought maybe since this one had a camera on it I could kill 2 birds with one stone on trying to keep it steady and stuff and with it only being $20 more on Amazon thought it might be worth the little extra. Which one do you think has more power for its weight?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jon Mahoney The U816A definitely seems to have more power for its size, but I think you would be fine with the U818A if you have low-wind days. :)

    • @mahoney1138
      @mahoney1138 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok one more question then I'll quit bugging you ;) After watching about all of your videos I'm torn between the Syma X5C and the UDI 818A-1. Mostly, to me, because the Syma has the removable blade guards. Is there really any difference in the way they fly? The specs seem to be pretty similar other than I get 2 batteries with the UDI model. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jon Mahoney Hmm, yeah, the X5C may be the better flyer, though a bit less protected. Blade guards won't work quite as well as the protective frame. But, just try to make sure you drop the throttle before a crash, and you should be good. The main concern is killing motors by having them powered up when the prop is forced to stop. It's unlikely that you'd break the frame of either of those quads.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alt502 Early motor deaths are often due to crashing. Always be sure to drop the throttle right before a crash. If the motor is being powered when the prop is forced to stop, that will greatly damage the brushes inside the motor, leading to motor death.

      You are in the unique position of being able to wait for the next cool piece to review that will likely not be so affected, so no points lost if you don't want to crack stuff open every time you discover some odd point.
