This is not complete knowledge what you are seeing. Sometimes rather most of the times, illusive, wrong & misleading.

Magnetometer are more sensitive & reliable than rods. One can hold in hand & find in that case....

Yes magnetometer are sensitive. With L rods it is easy to identify first and then check with magnetometer. It saves a lot of time.
