Because he didn’t train at all. Kawaki has ninja tech and karma and solely relies on it. Boruto has karma and has trained these last 3 years. His skills are sharper, while Kawaki’s have dulled. If boruto were to use karma, he would stomp kawaki without a doubt.
What would you expect, Kawaki didn’t train for 4 years while Boruto did and plus, Boruto is regarded as a genius, more than Naruto so I don’t think Kawaki will ever be as strong as Boruto

I was never here for the “old intro”, but I have to imagine that everyone is equivalently hyped as I was when it was said that “Boruto would have to live his life like Itachi”, and then it flashbacked to Itachi on the light post in front of the moon. I’m 29 years old and I was in 3rd or 4th grade when I started reading Naruto on the internet. That flashback was heavenly and brought back so many good memories.

It was the January 2004 edition which had chapters 23-26. Good stuff, although I didn't actually become a fan of the series until the anime aired September 2005.

Back then, I thought the anime was sooo corny but in contrast I thought the manga was so fire. It's as Eida says trying to tell them their memories have been changed will not work. Omnipotence just makes them forget what was told to them and what evidence was showed to them however there is hope as she says they will have to make new memories ie. Discover for themselves the truth. Like what Shikamaru did and Amado and what Mitsuki is doing right now. They (the above mentioned) wont forget now that they discovered the truth on their own because it's a new memory. I think that's why Sarada kept failing to persuade everyone. She keeps telling them their memories has been tampered with. That's why Boruto's approach was totally different. Boruto did not bother to tell Mitsuki that his memories were altered. He just says "I am your sun" then tells him his intentions towards Kawaki and that Naruto is alive purposely allowing opportunity for Mitsuki to figure out himself that Boruto is not what his memories is telling him.

Mitsuki storyline is so sad, let me tell you why.
Mitsuki is an AI or a Ropot in an organic body, he does not have the same start like us, being born have parents and family, he is a person who is simply made by another human, he doesn't have the same life steps as us to grow and learn, he is just there... Empty with a hole inside his mind and heart that needs to be filled, and that filling is Boruto, because by Boruto being alive is just enough reason for him to breathe and live for another day, a reason like this may not make enough since, but for a him... It just is.
If you remember the episodes that focus on Mitsuki it had that slow tuned OST that never goes up or down, it just runs in a sad base rhythm, it gives the feel of hollow that hope to be filled and never gets filled, i think it resembles Mitsuki'e emptiness very well, and the way that Mitsuke sees him self in that cat says alot about how lonely he is.
Also, when i see Mitsuki, I see the hosts from the park in West World, they give a very similar vibe, and you can see how us Human differ from them.
Boruto said that Mitsuke will light on his own someday, and i belive he will, but also, he will never be bright enough without Boruto in his life.
Ive been hating because how simple they make Mitsuki story he's just too deep and philosophical to be handled correctly by this franchise imo.
