      @@BuildOrBuy Will that usb driver give us individual drive temps even though all six drives are in a raid 0? If that card on an 8X socket can get up near the 16X socket speeds the X570/Z590 owners should want a PLX chip raid. The QUAD cards with a PLX chip getting 4X the speed of one 7000/7000 GEN4 drive would be scorching hot.

      Hi@@maxhughes5687,
      This needs to be PCIe 4.0! However, Very impressed with results on the Broadcom PLX Chip at PCIe 3.0! And the RAID results were really interesting in Part Two both on x8 and x16! I'm much more interested now in Testing the Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme now!

    Shouldnt these cards just work on any pcie slot (provided they're open in) with reduced speeds of course?
    I only got one pcie gen 3 4x on my Motherbaord left. Other adapter do that too but i cant use what ive got because the drives are on the front and the back of the plx controler i have here (interferes woth zhe gpu cooler 😅)

      @BuildOrBuy  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello BR0KK85,
      Welcome. Appreciate your comments. Good question. To reiterate what's stated in the Video, this card requires a X16 Slot. With the add-on Adapter, it can work in a X8 Slot. If you only have a X4 Slot, no. They do however make a version that will with reduced drive count. Remember: Each M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Drive requires X4 PCIe Lanes. Yes the card is self Bifurcated. Cutting the Lanes will cut performance. How much? Test and Verify. Each application is different. Your results may vary.

    Those grey pads look like either Gelid or Tehrmalright pads. They're the good stuff even if the heatsinks don't look so good. To be honest, I prefer to have their 2 fans and good pads than some massive copper heatsinks - I think better airflow and conductivity beat more dissipation area. And since this is a 6 card adapter, vertical clearance is an issue anyway.

    • @BuildOrBuy
      @BuildOrBuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi cldpt,
      Thanks for that Info! They're thick too! This packs a lot of technology in a small package. And being able to change the PCIe Pins to either x16 or x8 is fascinating! Amfeltec needs a PCIe 4.0 version of this M.2 NVMe PCIe Carrier Board. Temps are all in acceptable ranges. Thanks for Sharing! Next part Premieres tomorrow! Stay Tuned!

    Wondering the max read speed of those drives in Raid 0 ? And is there a Board that allows pcie 4.0?

    • @BuildOrBuy
      @BuildOrBuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi whittymusic,
      Sorry for not responding sooner! We had a batch of Comments that We never saw notice on from TH-cam. I logged into the Account today looking for another message that showed up but I cannot find. Nuts right. Anyway, Your Question, The Maximum Read Speed. I need to go back and recreate the RAID 0 array. I was thinking JBOD and We don't have JBOD on AMD RAID. All Drives must be the same size or the RAID defaults to the lowest size of drives. I'll do an Update of all 6 but will have to change out the 2 1TB Drives to be 2TB Drives to match. For PCIe 4.0, The issue is with the PLX Broadcom Chip. Thata's the bottleneck. Amfeltec has stated they will do a PCIe 4.0 version but when, We don't know.
      We have yet another solution We may be looking at that is a type of RAID aggregation beyond anything We've discussed so far. Virtual Instruments are the one thing I can see benefitting from RAID the most from Our Perspective other than VM's and DataBases! I'd like to se a Rig with GBs of RAID Storage that could load Komplete Virtual Instruments in 3 seconds or less. Doable! Stay Tuned!
      BTW: I'll Contact You on Your Channel for a follow-up! I'm honored! Happy Thanksgiving!

    Also careful that HWiNFO may not keep the order on the drives as you plug and remove the PCIe device. At least this is my experience with multiple GPUs on the same exact slots. I think it has something to do with enumeration and the way either Windows or the motherboard handle that enumeration during boot. I know this is comon because I set GPU temps to tray icons in HWiNOF (right click the item on the table) and then I would assign different colors to identify GPUs, but even across restarts I would sometimes flip the colors! And I'm quite sure this happenned because I plugged and unplugged the cards for cleaning fans.

    • @BuildOrBuy
      @BuildOrBuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi cldpt,
      You're absolutely right! Just now seeing Your Comment. TH-cam does not always send out notification. I did not want that issue to be a distraction. Device enumeration is a very big deal. And that's one of the problems We're having with multiple GPUs as You have pointed out on the TRX40 Designare. The Bios is either not resetting or reconfiguring properly to reallocate PCIe Resources. And this Amfeltec Squid AIC has the ability to do that. Which is interesting. Thunderbolt could be the culprit on the TRX40 Designare. It was an issue in the beginning. But that's just a hypothesis based on previous experience. I'd like to have the time to explore that issue further. But it may be self resolving soon if We get new Bios Updates or new Chipsets. Thanks for Sharing! This helps Us to make better Videos! These Details matter!

      Hi BB-box,
      Welcome! Good Question! Compliant with PCIe Specification 3.0 and M.2 Specification 1.1. One way to find out! Test and Verify! Like on a 990FX Motherboard? Crazy expensive experiment experience! A rabbit hole what if. The point of these, in the end, better to utilize a Motherboard with PCIe Resources that supports Motherboard Bufurcation to avoid all of these alternative Configurations. Keep it Simple and Make it Work!

    Gil, Thank you for being such a great teacher. Covid took my commercial pilots Cert away so I am leaning on my limited ability to do creative content for a living. I can't take the depreciation on my i9 Macbook so I sold it and since the M1 Max 32 core GPU is the closest thing to render in my software what I need, I need to rely on breathing life in to my 2010 Mac Pro tower with a Vega 56. I am capped at 3gb/s with ssds, unless I use the PCIe X16, then I get the faster ssd speeds. Much needed. BUT since my motherboard doesn't support bifurcation and I need to independently load two different OS's this appears to be my only option to having 2020 's ssd sata and M.2 ssd speeds. Has anyone used this on a 2X 3,33 6 core (12 core ) Xeon Mac Book 5,1 tower?

      Welcome! I'm honored! Sorry to hear You too have been adversely affected by the world turning upside down these last 2 years. Crazy. Absolutely unbelievable.
      12 Years on that Platform. Ok. Working with what You have, options include Amfeltec, Highpoint and OWC off the top of my mind at the moment. As far as We are aware there are no Macs that Support BIOS Bifurcation. Therfore a Self Bifurcated card is the only option. Amazing technology using a PLX Chip for Lane Switching although pricey. Hope that helps! Please stay in touch and keep Us posted on Your progress! We shall get through this! Patience, Persistence and Perseverance! Success with Your Content Creation!

      Hi@@ThisOLmaan,
      Absolutely! Appreciate Your Feedback! The next type would be 8 Drive cards, also Self Bifurcated but much more expensive. Such as Highpoint which uses a Broadcom PLX Chip for Lane Switching. However, those require a X16 Lane PCIe Slot, electrically. Adding High Performance Storage Solutions is a fascinating topic for Discussion! Our Goal, Keep it Simple and Make it Work! The Amfeltec Squid only requires a X8 PCIe Slot, electrically. These types of cards can be installed on Consumer Desktop Motherboards but are easier to install on a HEDT or Workstation due to the difference in Shared PCIe Resources vs Dedicated PCIe Resources. Hope that helps!

    You to much talking. This card support NF1 NGSFF ssd`s, but i didn't see it. The usual m2 and the new m3 are not electrically compatible, m2 uses 3.3 volts, m3 uses 12 volts, this means this card must understand what type of ssd is inserted into it. The PCI SIG has previously spoken out against the use of the m2 connector: "Installing M.2 devices in the NF1 connector may damage the installed hardware." This hints at the fact that they have different pinouts. So how does it work on this board? 60 minutes about nothing. Anyone makes videos about bifurcation adapters, this is not news. The board looks horrible, flimsy. Why would they do that. They should have left it unchanged.
