You can use a scangauge on the GX to get the actual transmission temp. I did your transmission cooler mod after seeing 215F in Death Valley off-road without towing. Thanks for the info and stainless brackets! My transmission temps dropped around 15F and I’ve never seen above 205 F since, even while towing.
I added one more home made bracket to get a third connection point low on the cooler to the lower frame to make it more solid and had to put the horns in an alternate location to you as I have a '17 luxury model with front camera and other equipment in the way. After seeing stock configuration transmission temperatures without towing I recommend every GX owner who lives where it gets 90F+ in summer or who tows should do a partial drain and fill by 40k miles to refresh their fluid as fluid life is directly tied to operating temps. That is if you want your transmission to last as long as the engine. Now that my temps stay below 200F and my normal highway cruising transmission temp is around 188F I will do a partial drain and fill (easy to do yourself or ~$180 at the dealership) every 60k.
@@robbergstrom943 This is super good info. I am also in Southern California and I have a '15 Luxury that spent most of its life in Texas, where it can get extremely hot, although I know for a fact that it was never used for towing because it never had a hitch installed on it. As expected, the trans fluid was BLACK after 110k miles. I've done two drain and fills over the last 4k miles and the trans definitely shifts smoother now. I'll probably drain and fill one more time at the next oil change, and then switch to 30k mile drains. The Hayden trans cooler install is coming soon, as I want to at least tow a small utility trailer with this thing, and we plan to wheel it harder in the desert in the future. Here's hoping that going 110k miles on the original fluid (with only normal driving, no towing) did not significantly shorten the transmission's life.
I am sure if my GX needed an external tranny cooler, Lexus would have provided one. Only the Best... now watching this and trying to have breakfast was challenging. Love you Bobby..😊
Next, you need to create some new videos where in one will demonstrate how to pull the stern drive from your boat and replace the impeller, while the other will show how to install a monster wakeboard tower by drilling into the fiberglass hull.
You got great vids and i get great ideas from you... I installed csf radiator with transmission cooler and fan with thermostat...increased power torque and top speed around 150mph with stormpeacock gx460 ecu tune...pedal commander CAI cat delete afe exhaust...the tune is the best you all have to try... Have fun with your upgrades... I just ordered a uniden r7 also
Bob! Have you thought about checking out the GX550 or newer GX460 audio console options? They're about a grand. I can't find anyone who has them installed yet
Yes I have looked into it. Very interested but as you can see, I’m borderline homeless. Looking to find a good deal on out without having to pay retail.
Wow, I'm expecting early summer with this one. All the snowflakes are going to melt after this videos intro and commentary! Lmfao I'm going to do this mod here shortly! This is good R.O.I. for sure, but my favorites so far are, k&n drop in filter, throttlebody clean, MAF clean, and cleaning the EGR and EGR piping. With 122,000 miles, my EGR pipes were very clogged, and the throttlebody was very dirty. I noticed a huge improvement in torque in the lower RPMs! GX runs great now! Thanks Bob
@@GXBOB As long as she sits on my face and it doesn't smell like the $2 hooker cooter we have a deal Bob, make a video about GX fuel filter / fuel pump replacement! I'm bored I need more things to service!
Love your videos, planning on doing the trans cooler install this weekend. Are you using the Curtis style hitch or the factory Lexus hitch that bolts to the frame?
Thanks Dalton. Here’s a link to a vid I did 2 years ago on the hitch. I chose the Curtis because I was towing under 3k lbs. The Lexus one was overkill and looked too bulky for my setup. th-cam.com/video/TiDonU6gE6A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=grl9Ru49gkBnTfAl
@@GXBOB ah okay thank you! We tow a camper thats probably in the neighborhood of 4,000 lbs fully loaded, I think the curtis one would be fine. Good to see someone else using the curtis one for more than a bicycle rack
hey austin. Sorry for the late response. Its been 17 minutes and i hate to have a white guy wait. I looked at the switch and was contemplating what i wanted to do with the switch. Since i don't want to attract attention to the switch i would leave the illumination portion out. I would just use Green and Red 1. Only 2 wires to replace the momentary push button i currently have. I think i need to remove everything to really look at it from above to ensure it will work since the button you advertised is originally for a power and not ground in order to work. I just ordered the button you suggested. Will arrive in 2 days.
@@GXBOBYes never make a white Christian semi-straight guy wait! I have two of the buttons installed. Both of the button's lights are off when the car is off. But I hooked one light to be on with the car and one light to be off when the car is on. Both buttons light up when the button is activated.
Hey Mike, to be perfectly honest with you, i would never consider pinning because i live and travel in environments that don't require it. Even when i tow my 3k lb fully loaded travel trailer, my temps are still in acceptable ranges. I would have to live in desert and hilly environments to test out that case and see if it's worth doing. I would just rely on the available testimonies provided on the forums and go off on that.
Good info Bob, and glad to see your sparkling personality back.
finally , someone appreciates a douchebag.
Bob, great info, thank you, and the entertainment is first class as well - very glad you decided to post this "uncut" version, much appreciated! :)
this was not the "uncut" version. This is actually the cut version. The original version had incest, bestiality, and human trafficking.
