    The DDC 3 stage plan for success as an independent designer:
    Step one - Get completely out of debt.
    Step two -
    Step three - profit!!

      This is where building an audience becomes so important. Draplin made stuff that he loved and found other people that loved it, too.
      Maybe step two is outrageous charm? :)

    I honestly don't see how he turns a profit on merch other than Field Notes. A designer is lucky to sell a few hundred dollars a month in posters, hats, and patches, but he's probably spent tens of thousands to have all this inventory produced. Print houses and merch suppliers make way more money on this stuff than the creators do.
