    Never ever attempted to fix a mower in my life, mine is a similar one and has the same sv150 engine with the lhp16 carb. It would start then just stop in a few seconds, last night, after watching this video about 3 times I ordered some carb cleaner and got my tools ready for the next day. I stripped down the carb after clamping the fuel, soaked all the bits in the carb cleaner and reattached that little spring that had also gone on my mower. I then gave the carb exterior a good sloosh with cleaner and a soft brush. I put it all back together after checking for leaks attached the airbox. Started first time and runs better than it has ever done!!! Thank you so much one dead mower fixed for a 6 quid tin of carb cleaner!! Liked and Subscribed!!

    Great video - thank you. Explained “why” a little too which is helpful for casual users like me. I had wondered why my mower didn’t tick over when I wasn’t holding the handle. Answer is that it doesn’t 🤦‍♂️😅

    Thanks Mower Man, great to get all the detail and tips. I had very slow running on my XSZ40 so turned in the running speed screw to resolve (it has an anti-tamper pin in the crew head but turns by hand anyhow). Might clean down the carb if issues persist. A few notes that might be useful.
    a) mine doesn't have a micro-switch for the engine cut-off - just a sprung metal contact that a cam operated by the cable touches with a single lead (shorting cable) to it (cost saving!).
    b) the little extra bolt at an angle on the float bowl is a drain plug if you want to drain the fuel off.
    c) the upright bracket on mine has a clip at the top for holding the fuel pipe mid-way; clearly missing on your example.
    d) the very light spring on the throttle (also bit of sponge under it) does not control the full travel of the butterfly valve as you said. I suspect that is not supposed to operate the full range of travel - this is done by the main spring on the regulator arm - just provide some damping as it gets toward the end of travel?
    Also your website appears to be down at the moment - I have tried a couple of the links and none working.

    My lawnmower is alive again thanks to this video.. a new spring for the carb and the tension sorted and a new plug along with a good carb clean and waaaahey fires up with a simple pull..
    My mower has become super loud though I’m guessing the muffler is knackered .. if you ever get the opportunity to film one of these and changing a muffler that would be ace.. great work thank you

    Many Thanks Mr Mower Man! With your video I fixed our sovereign mower today! From what I could see there were 3 issues, one - there was a hole in the fuel line near the fuel inlet to the carburettor (luckily there was enough fuel line to snip it off & reattach & clamp what was left), two - the spring on the “bracket” assembly that controls the butterfly valve, three - the spring on the linkage was loose & didn’t seem to be properly attached at the far end. Sorted those & now it runs better than it’s ever done! Thanks!

    Great video thank you so much, picked up a non runner sat outside neighbour house for year, will use as back up mower, engine recoil had snapped, new one from Ebay £20, oil change and followed another vid of yours about the self propel and clutch cable as drive went from not working to new belt meaning permanently in drive, freed up the mechanism and drives, so £30 all in now have fully operational back up mower. Thanks so much love a good tinker but would not ha e done so without watching you vid and gaining some confidence, keep up the great work!! Lee

    Thanks for such a clear & informative video! My Sovereign had (what I later learned was!) a detached governor spring. I contacted the agents to find out if they had any info. as to where the spring located and they gave me a link to this video of yours. After watching the relevant section, was able to re-attach it correctly. Brilliant!

    I have spend hours online trying to buy a new carb for the SV150. It seems that all of them are the (new?) model with two butterfly valves and will only work with paddle-style governor (mine is internal as in this video). Also all of the new ones have no connection for a primer bulb. I am at the end of my wits and about to throw this whole Sovereign nightmare into a skip. Does anyone have any info where to get one? Thanks!

  • @carofmadness
    @carofmadness 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the video, I pulled a similar sovereign mower out of a skip today and I ran so badly, probably why it was being thrown out. I set the carb the same as you did in the video and it now works perfectly, looks like the previous owner had the carb of to get it running properly but set the mixture screw to 6 turns out and the float bowl wasn't on properly. Now I have a free mower and don't have to use an extension lead all the time to cut the lawn

    Thanks for the video, very helpful. Working on the same mower for a friend which he brought to me as it was clearly over revving. The throttle doesn’t die back after starting and the mechanism is completely free moving and springs are in the right place. I can relocate one of the springs to the wrong place to artificially hold the throttle against the idle screw and it runs fine but obviously this is not what is intended. Any reason why it is not self governing or does this mower run at a ridiculous RPM?

    Hi great info. There looks to be two different types of carburettor's for the SV150. Do you know where you can buy the SV150 carburettor with primer? The choke switch you find on all "for sale" SV150 carbs on the net. Mine has a chip out of the shaft that the fuel bowl screws into and a fuel leak (float full of fuel/missing pin seat).

      ady Miller Check the O ring seals on the back of the carb where it pushes back on. Sometimes the plastic carb is warped against the metal tank so you don't get a good seal. If it runs ok without stalling or revving up and down i'd leave it.

      @teresacarter1931 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have serviced the carburettor, but I don't think fuel is coming through, I can hear the air when pressing the bulb, it's got a full tank and knows it's coming through the fuel pipe as I had to clip it

    Thanks for this video, mines losing fuel and I will strip my carb. Any chance you can point me in the direction of the Gasket for this exact mower, I can't find one anywhere.

    • @lardy70s
      @lardy70s 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're losing fuel and there isn't any apparent damage to the fuel tank or fuel hose lines, then there is a possibility that the needle valve inside the carb isn't seating properly due to dirt. Your carb will need a strip down and a thorough clean. I had the same mower that's in the video. I bought a fuel shut off valve and fitted it between the fuel tank and carb. Simply cut the main fuel line and fit this shut of valve. Saves mucking about. As for the gasket you can get them on ebay as a kit. Just go on Ebay and type Sv150 carb gasket. You'll see a o ring and a gasket. You can also get the shut off valve on there as well.

    • @lardy70s
      @lardy70s 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I had the same problem. The needle valve in the carb wasn't seating for whatever reason so I fitted a shut off valve. Never failed so far and that was 3 years ago now.
