With a 3-2 lead and pinch runner Otis Nixon on second base, Cubs closer Mitch Williams dug in to face pinch hitter Mike Fitzgerald. Nixon stole third uncontested, but the Wild Thing struck out Fitzgerald on a checked swing to end it, giving the Cubs the National League East crown. Have to say clinching it in Wrigley would've been really nice...Montreal was such a weird sterile environment for baseball in that stadium. It just seemed like some kind terminal....still kudos to the Cubs fans that made the trip
