I listened to the first generation model of this horn on J's TH-cam channel. It was recorded in what looks like his home studio and it sounded fantastic. This alto would be a great horn for someone stepping up from a student/entry level horn.
I was fortunate enough to collect mine today from the London store, great service from two really helpful guys, looking forward to having great fun with this horn...

To the detractors complaining about the use of the word “affordable”…get real! In this day and age, do you actually expect to pay LESS than $800 USD for a SOLID entry/intermediate level alto with the outstanding features, key work, high F#, intonation and vintage finish of this stunning horn? I’m a professional who plays a new Yanigisawa AWO10 Elite alto (as Jay Metcalf does) and it has an uncanny resemblance to this model, except for engraving…but, I paid around $3500 more! For the sound the BetterSax gets, I’d say it’s a bargain! Congratulations, Jay. As a retired music educator, I believe you’ve done a real service with this fine “affordable” instrument! I’ll be looking to buy the tenor when it comes out!

Do you realy believe that that has anything to do with the sax? I mean, I know cats that sound good on any horn.

bought this saxophone just recently as an upgrade from my local Chinese saxophone, what a difference it makes, seems much easier for me to reach low Bb in this compared to my Chinese sax in which I could barely reach low C (with warble) , I've been using a Yamaha 4c with plasticover reeds, now i use yamaha 4c as well as theo wanne water ART mouthpiece to play indian carnatic music with ease. Thank you @bettersax and @sax_shop for making this possible to be purchased in india

Good night Jay l have an important question does this instrument have adjustment screws on the left and right hand stacks. I consider this one of the most important features on any saxophone.
1965 Beuscher 400 tenor player checking in. The underslung octave key is awesome, until you shop for a custom case for it.

unfortunately to get this in australia it will cost [with shipping and import duty ] over $1500 aud ...for that amount i can get a new yamaha student sax [yas26 ] from a retail yamaha dealer.

Jay said on his channel a while ago, that there might both be coming down the line if the Alto was well accepted, and boy, has it been already. So I think we will see the Soprano and Tenor versions rather soon.
Tenor version is planned.
This may be a great mid priced horn. However the Cecilio Mendini is the King of the AFFORDABLE saxophone.
I got my Cecillo Mendinii for only $240. But I'm ready for something better sax.

Correct - it's Conn Selmer's Chinese factory, owned and controlled by them.

Nice but he could have come up with a better name,
I'm sure this is a great sax but I, and I'm sure a lot of people, will not buy it for one reason. The name. Put the name Conn Selmer on it and it will appeal, put BetterSax on it and people will be put off. It really is a branding and marketing issue but I suspect calling it the Conn Selmer Jay or Conn Selmer Metcalfe would be better for sales. Despite all that I wish you success with your project.
Chosing a provider from uk after Brexit is not the best choice for European customers... 80€ of delivery and 200€ of taxes, sorry Jay but it's a lot of fees

No disagree with you. The whole idea of cheap saxophones is to afford to learn to play. At the price of this 'Better' saxophone I would not stray from Yamaha. Who cares what colour the sax is - utterly stupid descision making.

You guys seriously expect people to pay that much for this? For this money one can easily find a selmer series 1, a yanagisawa 900 series and a yamaha 62 in Romania. You guys really must be joking with the price right? I mean...right?
Hi George, you seem to have your prices heavily skewed. At £800 this mainly falls in line with new models from Yamaha, Trevor James, Buffet and other Conn-Selmer models. To take your example of an SA80 Alto, the current second-hand price on one of these is around £2,500.. There is a large market for stolen instruments in Romania and I would approach any Selmer Paris instruments at £800 with extreme caution!
That's very inexpensive for a brand new solid horn. Cheaper than Yamaha's student models. Obviously there are deals to be had for used and older model horns but that's not a straight apples to apples comparison.
