    Note. There is an audio issue caused during my render - I recommend watching using speakers rather than headphones as it is more pronounced with headphones. My apologies, I am working on how to solve this !

      Hi, that's your chance to notify your subscribers how bad is MSI. That's what I've got when I bought GS63

      Any plans to set up a Patreon, to help with the costs of review? Seen your intro on a previous video that it's a heavy investment, have you gotten any more luck with getting review units since then? The quality of content is right there with the best reviewers, manufacturers should be standing in line!

    Very complete and detailed work, the most beautiful test I've seen of that laptop in all TH-cam, I consider that it is a full-time desktop replacement, low battery life and some first faults such as performance falls down under certain conditions will be corrected with coffee lake cpu, a laptop more than interesting.

    Hello! Big fan! I believe he is referring to moments like 12:09 in the video where your voice gets either louder, or clearer, or something noticeably changes otherwise about your voice from previous clips.

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see. At that moment I had recorded the footage but forgot to type it in my script. So I did add that on just afterwards but my mic was in the same place, same volume and same room. It must pick up a change in tone then from when reading my script to that point.
      In earlier videos I did add my voice separately to the footage but for the past half dozen I have used my script for the most part.i didn't want to miss that footage out, perhaps in future I should listen to it with headphones on and adjust accordingly..

    Getting 1,905mhz and maintaining performance at only 1% slower than a full fledge gtx1080 laptop, is nothing short of just totally impressive! He did re paste his gpu and cpu. But if im paying $2,699 I would do the same thing. This guy does great reviews. It is indepth, and feature length presentation.

    Thanks for the awesome review! at 3:56 you mentioned carrying an external battery pack. My Zephyrus will arrive in a few days and I have been researching which external battery packs are compatible just to extend the run-time for non-gaming use. Can you recommend one? Thanks!

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rene Canlas thanks! Something like this should be good. Max 110w. Wouldn't game on it but should be okay on idle. Undervolting also trims off some power. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B071RC5Y3N/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1502560421&sr=8-12&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=chargetech+portable+power+outlet

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The one in my video is their 27,000maH one and it is great. The fact that this new one is 250w is quite incredible . I'm tempted to get it . It would definitely help the Zephyrus ! Thanks for sharing :)

    • @rpc72
      @rpc72 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome! the new 250w bank seems a tad large for my taste. Was wondering if you've tried charging the Zephy using your chargetech while doing light office tasks/browsing? Interested in how long it takes to charge while being used and idle/powered down.

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know, I was going to and perhaps I should have but I didn't think anyone would be interested, lol. I have sent it back now but I will run my GT73VR down to 7% battery and see how much extra run time I get with the power pack. That has an i7 6820hk/GTX 1080..

    Thank your for this review. Its one of the best i'v seen on youtube because you dont speak only about games. I am so exhausted of this "gamers" reviews.
    But i choked when i saw that it took 41 minute to render 4Gb video file. Is it correct information? It is hellllll a lot!

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pavel Lebediev thanks, I try and do a range of tests and add new things all the time. Yes, that is correct and is not a bad time for that CPU. The i7 7820hk overclocked to about 4.5ghz takes 35 minutes. The i7 7700k at 4.7ghz takes about 31 minutes and the 6 core i7 8700k at 4.5 GHz takes 21 minutes...it's a long test. Thanks for watching!

    • @coptup4ik
      @coptup4ik 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh. i got it. You are rendering only with CPU. But people buy gtx 1080 specially for GPU rendering. CPU render for video is a bit 19th century tech. I think you should test powerful laptops installing Adobe After Effect or Premier Pro and render some heavy scene out of it. It will be very indicative for many people.
      Because this is the reason while i am looking for portable laptop. I need it mainly for motion graphics on the go. So it is really important to know how this laptops will handle this tasks.
      And when i open another thousandth video for Acer Triton 700 instead of telling me about its features they say "touchpad, touchpad,touchpad it is located in the wrong place"
      This leads me to famous video NO GOD! PLEASE NO!!! NOOOOOOOOOO

  • @serban2139
    @serban2139 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video...I have to say a few things..overclockable cpu? Lol, okay, I would undervolt it to get less noise, less heat, would've liked a 7700hq for lower price...gpu 80-85°? I thought it was supposed to generate less heat, mkei. Strong review though, I agree. 2600£? I would go for either the bulkier 2000£ still asus to make it fair, but less noise, heat, same performance. OR 1700£ asus slim that is louder because it's slim, same performance, same heat output. Talking about asus gl702vs and gl752vs or similar models. Just mi opinion, cheers!

    Quick question: Does the battery loses charge while gaming (plugged in) like it does in the ROG GL502VS?

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jon Fung not that I noticed. The max power draw i saw was 188W and it is a 230W power supply.

    • @jonfung566
      @jonfung566 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      OWNorDISOWN Yeah forgotten that you measured the power draw. The whole package seems promising for a portable gaming laptop. Just shows how technology is improving. But the price is a little too premium. Maybe 2000 US$ would be more appropriate.

    Great review as usual! Btw I have read some of journal and article about 4 5 months ago, it said that gaming slim laptop was still not really good to perform many activities including gaming, they make an example is razor slim gaming laptop (if i'm not wrong) what's your opinion about this?

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate. When making things slim they always have to make some compromise. In this case , it was battery life, speakers and storage really. I would have liked to have seen another m.2 slot, and sd card reader, and better speakers. The Yoga 720 is the same thickness yet it had better speakers. The cooling design is very good and I saw no throttling what so ever
      The Razer Blade Pro runs hot and loud so I wouldn't be surprised if they switch to the Max-Q version. We just need prices to drop a bit I think.

    • @OWNORDISOWN

      Thanks! The gtx 1080 one is good but to be honest even a gtx 1060 is more than enough for 1080p and I think at $2700 it is a lot of money. I woukd be inclined to say $500 or so and go for the gtx 1070 one...

    great video, but my zephyrus gets higher temperatures, the cpu is in pubg at 98 degrees, thats really hot. i wonder if the cpu is working correct or if it will stop its life soon. i only use the asus control center to check the temperatures, which software do you use, cause my temperatures are much higher than yours?

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Thomas. I tend to use HWinfo64 as it shows the min, max and average temp across all cores and can be reset to start recording again. Something doesn't sound right about yours. It sounds like there definitely isn't good contact between the cpu and heatsink or something is wrong with the fan. I assume you checked the fan speed and that is ok so it may well be the thermal paste. To me that is grounds for a replacement unless you are prepared to repaste it yourself which isn't difficult.
      You can try undervolting the CPU which will help a bit but I would definitely have it sorted. Good luck !

    • @devilspectre
      @devilspectre 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regarding temperature. If you put this laptop on your lap while gaming (I know it sounds weird)... Will it cause discomfort or burn your thighs like many thin laptops do?

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      47 Degrees is fairly warm so it might cause some discomfort, but to be honest, like I said in my video , the position of the keyboard is not condusive of gaming on your lap.

    im between buying the acer predator 17x with the gtx1080 i7 7700hq and the alienware 17 r4 with the gtx1070 i7 7820hk. both are $1999. i would appreciate your opinon

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      a it's a close call. My AW17 R4 i7 7820hk ran hot but it is very fast. If you plan on doing any video rendering or encoding that would be the choice. I also prefer the AW17 R4 for its storage as the Acer didn't have screw holes to fasten in extra m.2 cards. If having more USB ports and SD card reader are important then the Acer makes more sense. Gaming wise they are close.
      The Acer has a very bright display and can be overclocked to 100hz but the the higher resolution QHD 120 hz display on the AW17 R4 is good.
      Alienware had great support, probably the best. ACER support was good though. They were quick to respond to my online chats and sent me a recovery USB stick quickly.
      I guess my conclusion would be if gaming is your main criteria, connecting a mic, mouse, or other USB devices then the Acer is probably better. But if want to do more cpu intensive work then you will be better off with the AW17 R4. You also have the amplifier port which will help gain you some future proofing.

      Good to know that there is no warranty void stickers! Maybe they want you to replace the gunk on the cpu/gpu :p. No windows hello in 2017 is kinda weird esp on a 2000+usd machine! I am loving the facial recogniton on my alienware 15r3. no problems with it even when logging in with the lights out in my room. BTW nice video as always! Keep them videos coming! Hope you do a video n the msi raider laptops or the gt75vr! want to know if the close to 3000usd price is worth it for the per key rgb + mechanical kb.

    FYI there is no 2nd ram slot on the motherboard, 8gb is integrated.

    Do you prefer the Asus Zephyrus or the Acer Triton?

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I prefer the Zephyrus - that touchpad placement on the Triton would probably drive me nuts :)

    • @GabrieInoah
      @GabrieInoah 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      OWNorDISOWN Thanks for the fast answer!
      I think so too because the Asus zephyrus is also 500€ ( in Austria) cheaper than the Acer Triton.
      I donˋt think that the Triton is 500€ more worth than the Zephyrus cause their are no big differences.

      / [Hexenkönig] \ I agree with you, paying for that fancy window I guess. For the price of the Triton I have a 6 core/12 thread, gtx 1080 laptop coming in 😀

      OWNorDISOWN Which one? I have seen the Asus Chimera g 703, what do you think about this? The Problem is that it is 5,1 cm thick and weights 4.7kg😬 but has good cooling and 144hz Panel.

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the Sager NP 9877 coming in, an i7 8700k CPU which I expect to be able to overclock to 4.7 Ghz and a GTX 1080 (can be configured with 2 x GTX 1080's). Mine has a 120 Hz QHD display. Probably same size as this Asus Chimera G703 but that CPU will be much faster - even the i7 7700k I have now in my NP9873 runs stable at 4.7 Ghz and maintains a higher clock. $3k

    Is msi gt73vr 4k display, i7 7th gen , 8gb video ram, 16gb memory, gtx 1080 a good buy? For best overall power for gaming and 4k video editing ?

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hans vado yes, I think it is one of the best options out there. The only one I think is better is the Sager NP9873 /NP9876 as it uses a desktop i7 7700k. I have mine clocked at 4.7 Ghz.

      Nice thank you i really am ready to pull the trigger on 73vr just one thing is holding me back is not knowing if 8gb if video ram is enogh for video editing or do ineed more?

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You thinking of going SLI ? It's certainly a decent option for 4K. I don't believe you will have 16 GB VRAM available though: www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/sli/faq#c26

      I was thinking 2x 1070 sli in it but then i keep reading that i might have issues to stick to the 1080

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did do a study on how effective GTX 1070 sli would be at 4k v a single GTX 1080. I think it averaged out at about 20-30% but of course some games see no benefit at all and you would then have to scale down settings probably. Plus is the two power brick situation, although Eurocom sell a 780W power brick for like $450

    It is funny, the thinner they get the more dongles we have to cart around :)) potentially. I will give asus one thing it looks very good nice an thin, and with OK horsepower for the size, still need to work hard on the price, we can get 1070 equipped laptops for about 1600 $. As for the keyboard and touch-pad, i guess it is bad for lap use but that again depends on how one uses the laptop, for me it would be fine. Nice laptop, if it was about 2000 $ I would say it would be worth considering .
    P.S. if you can get a review up of a laptop with the GTX 1070 Max-Q i would be interested to see how it compares to the rest of the lineup, since you can get a 1070 MAX-Q sager NP8952 (CLEVO P950HR) 1629 $ (or just about) and that is about the same price as a GTX 1070 laptop ! TY

      It's way more appealing than the msi gs63vr with 1070 max q since it's much cheaper. Let's not forget about the bloatware.
      but 5400rpm hdd, seriously? It would be nice if we'd have the option of choosing between hdd+60Wh battery or a >90Wh battery, just like xps15 does

    The most important thing it is NOT A LAPTOP. you cannot use it in the airport because its body will get damaged.It is the most important thing for a laptop. Please check it in the next videos.

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You certainly don't want the rear hinge design to get damaged..

    • @MsRomanFed
      @MsRomanFed 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm now talking about the main body. If you look at Linus Tech review of this laptop at 3:05 you can see the main body of the laptop is damaged below the HDMI port. So when you just hold this laptop in your arms not carefully enough its main body get damaged (where the keyboard is).

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roman Fedyashov yes, I see that now. When i first watched it I saw the bow if the laptop there but not the damage. I woukd say that must have taken a knock. I carried mine around, and as some commented already, I knocked it on the table and I had no issue.. You can see how it is bowed in the middle by the reflection and the material if course folds in the middle and that is what you see at the hdmi port. I seriously think that unit took an impact of some sort.

    Great video Stephen. Battery life is crap. Only 1 ssd? 512gb is nothing these days. I can fill 1tb in one day. My opinion is that is not worth it at all. They sould have at least use a normal ssd instead of m.2 so you can at least put in a 4tb ssd bad boy. Thats just my opinion.

      OWNorDISOWN its funny cuz you actually can get this laptop for that price now... but thats with a max Q 1070 so youre still getting lower performance than something else for the same money. it is a nice laptop but its just too expensive
