Good to see you preaching a healthy mentality to the photographic community. Unlike some other TH-cam photographers who are flash nazis encouraging people to be solely natural light photographers. Keep up the great work Jason.

I've watched a bunch of Jason's videos, this is the first one I haven't been annoyed with. This is the first one where I felt like he actually knows what he's talking about. I see him in a completely different light now.

I struggle like mad with natural light, so many people claim to be only natural light and their stuff looks flat and horrid which just about describes my attempts. I need more practice and try to make it to a shop sometime. You're work is amazing.

Jason does an amazing job of breaking things down, and really explaining photography and the photography business. I was one of those natural-light only photographers for years. It wasn’t because I was a natural light snob, but I was intimidated by flash and artificial lighting. But recently, partly because of Jason’s videos and work, I’m taking steps to learn how to incorporate flash and artificial light. Thanks Jason!

As someone who is new to photography and I received my dslr camera for Christmas 2 years ago I'm so happy I found Jason on TH-cam/Facebook There are so many people out there that are giving out bad advice or misinformation There are others who overload you with specs and technicalities that'll make your head come off (my head was spinning OMG) Even though my gift is a Canon Rebel T5(training wheels) I shoot RAW & Manual because why would you want to pick up nasty habits?😉 At this point I'm limited to shoot natural light or indoors However I am willing to learn and master them both to the best of my ability I hope that one day I'll meet you Thanks again for everything you do Lots of Love to you, Mrs Fedora & your family❤

I'm not sure if its suppose to be a touching video, but i felt really touched by the messages in this video, especially at the end when you said that the top photographers in the world understand the value you of business without abandoning the artistic side. Its something I'm facing right with marketing. Appreciate this video very much!

Excellent video it was very inspirational. I'll never be a pro photographer and I don't want to be one. What I want to be is a good photographer and to do that it's important to be able to use all light sources available meaning natural light or OCF. You said something in the video that hit home with me and that was "to make yourself important" that is something that I lived by when I was in the job market and I did it by making myself an expert in my field of endeavour.

Natural light is what photography is. L.e.d.s, off camera flash, strobes, etc, they are what enhance your individual style. A photo in it's simplest form is light, camera, and a vision. The most basic light is natural light. Ancient hieroglyphics, arguably the first "images", are viewed, created, and inspired by natural light... it's the fundamental basic element. The creator saw something, wanted to express it, and used light to make a facsimile thereof. As civilization progresses, so do the tools we use. But the simple basic elements remain. Master them and you are equipped with what you need to develop your own style and make a name for yourself. But it all starts with the basics.

All photographers should have to work with film in a darkroom and learn how light works with film. When you have a limited amount of exposures, and every shot means $$$$, then you learn really fast what light does. Learn how to manufacture IN CAMERA. When you get it right in camera, you don’t have to worry as much about what needs to be edited because not that much will have to be!

Great stuff Jason. Im holding off buying any lighting... for now. Its so easy buying gear only to find out there were better option's out there. I need to get more experience in natural light. I've put my money in glass so far :), 24-70 2.8 & 70-200 2.8 ( love this bad boy ). Love your style, HSS etc. And going forward I don't want to be limited in what and when I can shot.I should've come to Vancouver, I'm so close.:)

You look rather familiar to me or maybe you look like someone I know with the same last name. A good informative video on natural light and flash. Though I did think there is a lot of reference to Irene who only shoots natural light at particular 2 hours in the day. Hence the comment time is money, a pro tog can not just work 2 hours in a day !
Also a pro tog needs to learn all types of light not just natural or just rely on natural light.
