PLEASE THUMBS UP, SHARE, LEAVE A COMMENT AND SUBSCRIBE!!
THIS IS PART 3 OF THE PRESENTATION FROM SAMY'S in September 2017.
Lots of Jason's videos focus on the shooting side of photography. But when he gives presentations, even ones that are designed for lighting, he will always delve into the business aspect of photography so photographers can figure out how to take the gear and lessons they learn and apply them to good use so they can pursue their dreams.
We thank you for watching and invite you to stick around and watch the other parts of this presentation that will be coming soon. We also invite you to watch some of Jason's other videos while you're here. Don't forget to subscribe and click on notifications so you're updated every time a new video is released!

Jason is the only talking head I can actually listen to.
Watching some clips yesterday already shook me off the basic flaw in my thinking.
It really does not matter what people say about what you are supposed to do.
The picture matters. If you have too much contrast, P+P just will not cut it, no matter how good the Sony sensor is. You need more light into the shadows. How you do it, is up to you.
Also, my idea of full open shooting dates from the years where the autofocus was nowhere yet.
With the modern autofocus, you can actually place the focus where it belongs.
Something that the human eyesight cannot achieve using manual focus and the viewfinder.
There are exceptions, of course. Only that I am not one of them. Eyefocus...wow!

Being a hobbyist I've only recently started using a godox AD600 which I"m loving, ..... but LED tech is coming and I'll be very interested to see how far it comes in a few years. If the power comes up and the prices come down I will look at some LED's

LED lights are marked up, because all photography gear is automatically marked up. LED technology is already dirt cheap. No reason at all for it to be so expensive.

The AD600 is a fantastic light and has a great modeling light. Just turn it on when you need it.

No. You can get cheap LEDs, good luck with them tho. Color accuracy, consistency, brightness, etc.The problem with LEDs is when you need high power output.

Rotolight looks amazing, but honestly I don't have a grand laying around especially when I have a speedlight and reflecting umbrella for like 150 bucks. But I'm not professional, and I can Definantly see how that's a good investment for a pro! Great video!:)

I just thought I'd add, babies hate led aswell. They don't know not to stare at the light and they can get dazzled. It's also not good for them. When they're asleep that's a different story.

I am a Canon shooter and really enjoy your videos. I have a 580 EX II flash but for obvious reasons, rarely use it. If I was to buy just one light source, would you recommend the Neo 2 or Explor 600 plus octobox? I would be using it mainly for shooting families, kids and grandkids. Thanks

I totally disagree about on camera flash... I've taken some GREAT pics with a Flashpoint TT600 with a 5x6 or 9x7 softbox... Of course I need to be close but because it's a speedlite... I got ONE with a bit of redeye because of distance and angle... Flash brackets solve the verical issue very well...
And no, I'm not a 20 year vet and have probably only taken a few thousand useful pics... I do strive to get the quality you do... I think I've learned enough to get some well-lit shots... Well, I've gotten some well lit shots in many different venues...
By next year, I will be able to just hold the camera with one hand certain I'll get the shot...

Could you compare the AD600 paired with a big cheap softbox and a LED that flashes. I'm asking that on behalf of those with very little money. Assume we do not mind the effort of setting up and carrying gear.

The 55mm f/1.8ZA and 35mm f/2.8ZA don't suck.... just because they were the earliest Sony FE lenses doesn't take away their optical quality.

    • @Vernice87

I use my @6300's on pop up flash a lot. I pull it up and bounce it from the ceiling.. no need for an outside flash! Can't do that with your kanon!

It's annoying how hard you're trying to justify an expensive (crappy) product. Yes. Now is making it all about the "catchlight". It's simple, you're pushing a WEAK and expensive light that you have to ram into the subject's face. No matter how you put it. What's next Jason? A set of miracle chinese knive set? Come forward. My guess is that Rotolight® is not paying you to push their product, they gave you company shares... that would explain all that desperate vouching of a crappy product. And not a fair/HONEST review.
