The increasing price for games one is a bit of a false argument, SNES and Genesis games, upon release, were in the 70 to 90 dollar range, which would be 100$ to 150$ today adjusted for inflation. If anything the consoles themselves have gotten more expensive.
That’s one thing I appreciate about the Nintendo Switch, most of the games are on the cartridge. There’s games that have no business being on the switch, that require downloading or always online streaming which is terrible.

My biggest problem is the last one. If I pay 70 dollars for brand new. That game better be done. Not un playable. You know what games have never crashed on me....ever! Ff7 rebirth and elden ring. Sure they fixed up some bugs but the games were phenomenal on launch.
You'll never see me complain about a triple A budget. That isn't something that tangibly ruins the games I play. But I will complain about fighting games' monetization. It's gotten pretty terrible from all the franchises.
For me, if it’s worth it then I’ll buy it for £70. Not a lot are so I won’t buy them - very simple. Fighting games are true BS considering how many fighter passes you have to buy to unlock the full roster these days. As far as I’m concerned, only the base game exists - unless they release a GoTY edition for a lower price.
You missed an important one... Bad online reviews from content creators that didn't really play the game! Too many times I've seen bad reviews of good to decent games from TH-cam content creators that have the same regurgitated negatives that they heard someone else say, hurting the sales of games and then months later come out with a "I was wrong" video after they actually tried the game and enjoyed it.
Don't know about you guys, but for me FOMO just makes me not want to bother in the first place. If something is a limited time only or in the future might disappear then it's just not worth my time.
I follow a few self-imposed rules when it comes to games. I do not pre-order and only purchase after full release. If there is an ingame microtransactions shop, I will not buy the game. If it is online only, I will not buy it. Just following those rules I have not only stopped wasting a lot of money, but the games I do purchase tend to be much more well-made and engaging.
To be honest, I’ve reached the point of not rushing to buy new games on day one, especially since most games are now becoming $70. I rather wait until it goes on sale and just play my backlog of games
I have no issues paying more for new games. I'm actually surprised the price has been somewhat the same over the years. I slowly stopped playing video games due to how bad it's gotten. Paying above full price for an unfinished incomplete product. Then waiting months before its semi fixed. Pay to play and, ridiculous loot boxes. Big companies such as E.A ruining games. My last game I had fun playing was Battlefield 4. I didn't care for the other ones that came after. I enjoyed the Dead Space 1 remake and, Resident Evil 4 remake. Kill the justice league couldn't play more than 2 hours. I bought the game to honor Kevin Conroy and Arleen Sorkin. 2 hours is all I could stomach. I got bored with Starfield as well. I have a very limited schedule when it comes to time. I refuse to waste it playing tedious boring video games that don't interest me. The moment the game feels like a job I'm not getting paid to do. I lose interest. I'll immediately stop playing and delete from my harddrive. Unfortunately, it has been way more common over the years.
you get the finished product for the same price because the patches are free, and if you wait 2 or 3 months you pay half the price and get the finished product from the start. It's not too bad
Yeah, and those games are still buggy and broken. Bugs have always been a part of games. The problem is they are using the ability to fix it later as an excuse to release game in unexcusable conditions.
For me, it is enforcement of DEI ideaology and uglification and trying to realism games. Good storytelling is a must for me for me to enjoy a single player game. Online games are more about immersion and how the game feels on pvp combat.
having to wait for months after release just to get NG+. what the hell happened with this? like just one day devs decided they're no longer launching their games with NG+ but instead opting to release this mandatory feature months after the game launches.
Honestly don’t have a huge problem $70 games as long as they don’t include a bunch of the other monetization bs. Nintendo 64 came out in 1996 and had $60 games. I can’t think of ANYTHING whose cost hasn’t gone up more than 15% in that time. New games take way longer to make and cost way more.
Exactly. These people that complain about $70 aren’t living on Earth 2024. A Chick Fil A sandwich, fries, small shake cost me $18.40. A haircut at Supercuts (pre tip) was $28. Both within the last 2 weeks in the San Francisco Bay Area, at normal locations.
What’s annoying about all of this is that all gamers have to do is simply not buy or participate in stuff and it will go away. Sadly, there will ALWAYS be enough gamers who will just go along or with things and support to justify companies doing shady or bad practices smh.
What do you expect when game companies are corporately run and investors want assurance on profits over quality. Corps ruin everything and are thieves.
@zonezs being woke is prioritizing liberal agendas in games instead of focusing on just making a fun game. Sweet baby Inc is a liberal "consulting" company that bullies games makers into making their games as woke as possible.
Modern gaming is trash. Always online, pay every time you play, every game is designed to take as many hours as possible. Sequels, remakes, remasters and re-releases that no one asked for. In pursuit of greed, fun has been left behind. Playing a modern game feels more like work.
What’s destroying gaming: For me - nothing. Fallout: New Vegas still exists, Dark Souls still exists, Metal Gear Solid still exists and new NON AAA games like Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Dredge and Pacific Drive exist, and are flourishing. These games are all complete, are better and are much more affordable than AAAs. Why on earth do I need to play every new blockbuster? How would I even find the time or money? God of War Ragnarok proved to me that taking a week out to ‘crash course’ a game due to its sheer size (and to prevent spoilers) only burns me out and ruins the game for me. Not to say that I won’t play the occasional new AAA that sticks out to me, because that’s bound to happen - but who cares.
What people really miss sometimes is the whole: "Consultancy" business. Videogames are an art form, and consultancy is BY NATURE and by DEFAULT anti-art. Imagine if Michael Jackson had asked a consultant to change the lyrics of his "They Don't Care About Us" song, given the political climate of the time. Or imagine if Michael Angelo had gotten a consultant before painting the Sistine Chapel's roof. Due to the use of nudity it would've been scrapped. Or imagine if Da Vinci had gotten a consultant before painting the Mona Lisa. It would've been scrapped because it wasn't "appealing" due to it's simple nature. And so on. Art is chaotic, and dangerous, art needs to raise brows and display a wide variety of topics, themes, realities and interpretations, regardless of who it might make uncomfortable. If everything passes through consultancy, then everything will be equalized and everything will turn to just a different shade of the same gray color. Consultancy is a cancer. And the fact that they use vulnerable communities to shield themselves from criticism. Communities that they attack members of, when they speak up. Communities they claim to represent, but in truth just use. It's all very messed up.
They're claiming to be making gaming more "inclusive" for people who don't care for gaming anyway. They're forcing unnecessary and unwanted changes into the gaming industry and that's the biggest problem ruining modern games.
@@Deadclown45acp That's a symptom, but not the problem on itself. The problem is that investors and management in companies don't see the games, their stories, lore and the fans for what they are. Everything is just an excuse to make money, there's not art or inherent worth/meaning to anything. That's why they hire consultants, that's why the recon the lore to be "inclusive", that's why the force a half-assed excuse for inclusion and make everything soulless in the process. Their excuse for inclusion is taking what was, destroying it, pushing all the old fans out and then letting the 2% of the population that don't even care about the products in. No wonder they are loosing billions, and I hope they continue to do so.
As much as I do like SS:KTJL, I doubt removing the live service aspect would have helped it. This was a game that fell in to the "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" category. Another title in the Arkham-verse with Batman would have received backlash in some form (unless it had a majorly spectacular twist), but a game that didn't have Batman would be seen as a cash grab. I feel we got the latter.
They're pretty much all valid, and I think a lot of people have been sick of these factors for a while now. "Poor PC Ports" doesn't affect my opinion, and "Battle Passes" and "Early Access" are decisions to pay that people make on their own, so they can't be mad. If they hate it so much, vote with your wallet and stop buying into that type of thing. "FOMO" like buying exclusive skins and stuff, same deal. Just don't buy into the hype, there will be another newer game just up the road anyway lol "Sequels removing features" doesn't matter to me. If you want the sequel to be the exact same as the first game, what's the point? "Terrible Workplace Conditions", meh. Then don't be a game designer? I've been hearing about the brutal crunch culture in the gaming industry for like the last 15 years, it's just how it goes and people should know that by now. Same thing with "Layoffs"... that's how it is at any job. In the gaming industry, big budget games are just a gamble in general. If the game fails, expect your job to be on the line. "Always Online" I don't like either, but that's not our choice in the end I guess. I don't play online games or co-op/pvp anyway "Launching Games before they're ready" began and has been going on mostly since the PS4 era, I think. When developers realized they can just upload patches and "update" games whenever they want, it made them a lot lazier about releasing polished games.
Out of all the games shown here, the only one that I have put time into was Spider Man 2, which was a disappointment. I'm trying to do my part for the industry.
not just battlepasses. but TIMED battlepasses are cancer. its like i paid for it, its mine now. let me go at my own pace. also wokeness in gaming is the worst.
Online Gaming destroyed the video game industry over the past 15 years. Period. And it's never coming back. Play your backlog and/or only buy games that do not require any online component to be complete. Simple as that.
People giving props to Horizon Forbidden West on PC for it’s performance makes me not want to play video games on PC anymore. Too many cutscenes in Horizon Forbidden West stutter and skip all over the place and even with a RTX 4070ti you can’t run the game at native 4k 60fps. I have to use DLSS quality to get between 60 and 75fps and the game still stutters and skips during cutscenes and the game always crashes the 1st time you launch it even if you shut down the game down correctly. I always get a error message report to send to Sony than it lets me launch the game
In somewhat defense of Anthem, I'll give it two things: The world/art direction is fantastic. The gameplay is actually very tight and very fun. That being said, it was still half baked and sold short due to live service and no clear direction.
Live service isn't ruining our favorite games, our favorite games aren't live service. Most of these are part of the live service model. I dunno, upload every two or so days, that way the uploads are better
I don’t think wokeness is the thing that ruins the modern gaming. It’s the greedy publishers that crunches the shit out of developers. That’s why we’ve been getting shitload of unfinished video games.

Both of these games are actually great games overall. But the rewards you find when exploring are mostly useless cosmetic crap.
Sony cancelled Days Gone 2 game, to make live service game and also Naughty Dogs 🐕
Days Gone was a boring and generic zombie game with no major innovation that became such a commercial flop the sequel got canned real quick.
Sony didn’t cancel Days Gone 2.
@@martinde-serres8724 nope, everything was top notch 👌
@@marskingdoms, agreed. It is one of my all-time favourites.
@@goqul same me too, my all time favorite Ps4 game "Days Gone" 👍
The increasing price for games one is a bit of a false argument, SNES and Genesis games, upon release, were in the 70 to 90 dollar range, which would be 100$ to 150$ today adjusted for inflation. If anything the consoles themselves have gotten more expensive.
That’s one thing I appreciate about the Nintendo Switch, most of the games are on the cartridge. There’s games that have no business being on the switch, that require downloading or always online streaming which is terrible.
15 things ruining TH-cam A.I. made videos with no effort (cough cough)
Most of these things are the customers fault.
Agreed.
Like I get that “greed = bad” but this wouldn’t be the case if people weren’t like lemmings with their wallets. Either research the product you’re buying or don’t buy it at all - very simple concept. These companies are always going to take advantage of people who pay them money - why wouldn’t they? All you need to do is disengage - problem solved.
Yeah, we are talking about publishers here… if they can get away with it they are gonna do it, that is their job. The only way anything is gonna change is is gamer stop acting like morons with their money
It's a simple concept, but you wouldn't believe how hard it is for most people to grasp. Don't like the current state of things? Vote with your wallet.
Does anybody at GamingBolt ever do research before posting a video ? Sony DID NOT start the $70 game wave. That would be 2K
Why pick on Dragon's Dogma 2 post-launch revenue when there are far more egregious actions taken by most other companies.
Because Dragons Dogma 2 is the latest punching bag for haters who don't even understand the thing they're hating. Personally I think DD2 is on the same page as Helldivers 2, none of the micros are really needed they're just there.

Video games aren't being destroyed. Just stop playing bad games. There are plenty of great games and this year has been great so far.
My biggest problem is the last one. If I pay 70 dollars for brand new. That game better be done. Not un playable. You know what games have never crashed on me....ever! Ff7 rebirth and elden ring. Sure they fixed up some bugs but the games were phenomenal on launch.
spreading misinformation. Sony didn't start the $70 model, it was Take-Two in 2020, then EA, Sony, Activision and Square Enix raised to $70 later.
Bot
What's really destroying games is paywalls, hackers and griefing
and greed
Don't know about you guys, but for me FOMO just makes me not want to bother in the first place. If something is a limited time only or in the future might disappear then it's just not worth my time.
1) tourists
2) virtue signaling
3) d.e.i.
4) feminists
5) incomplete games released with promise of patches
You forgot to mention the massive fan hatred of Denuevo DRM.
Forced DEI? No? I guess you are not allowed to criticize that.
They know they will get attacked big time if they mention it.
God forbid every character is not a white male like grow up the world is diverse & media should reflect
The world it’s simple
Can't watch a TH-cam video without someone crying about politics anymore...
$70 for unfinished products. And $130 for 3 day early release 😂😂😂
you get the finished product for the same price because the patches are free, and if you wait 2 or 3 months you pay half the price and get the finished product from the start. It's not too bad
How 'bout premiering games waaaay too early. Seriously, 10 or 15 years before the game comes out is too damn long to wait after a 'world premiere'.
#1: Games being released buggy or broken.
Remember back when games came out and once they were released, there was NO patches to fix them?
Video Game “Journalism” aka San Fran hipsters 😢
What do you expect when game companies are corporately run and investors want assurance on profits over quality. Corps ruin everything and are thieves.
Good list but you missed the elephant in the room. Wokeness, and everything that goes with it is ruining gaming.
What's 'wokeness' exactly?
Oh boy here comes stellar blade fans
The problem is you lot apply "wokness" to just about anything. The word has no meaning anymore, you ran it into the ground.
They definitely should have missed it on purpose.
They are part of it of course
Being woke and sweet baby Inc are destroying video games.
You don’t even know what woke means.
so, what is woke and what exactly does sweet baby inc does?.....oh wait, you don't know right?
@zonezs being woke is prioritizing liberal agendas in games instead of focusing on just making a fun game. Sweet baby Inc is a liberal "consulting" company that bullies games makers into making their games as woke as possible.
Modern gaming is trash. Always online, pay every time you play, every game is designed to take as many hours as possible. Sequels, remakes, remasters and re-releases that no one asked for.
In pursuit of greed, fun has been left behind. Playing a modern game feels more like work.
No more physical copies
(and single player, narrative driven, always online games....like TF?)
yeah. it was crazy that a big title like alan wake 2 was digital only.
RELEASING “NEXT-GEN” GAMES AT LOCKED 30 FPS
What’s destroying gaming:
For me - nothing.
DEI and ESG too but corporate won't let them say those things
Hiding true endings behind ridiculously difficult or tedious requirements or worse, paywalls.
Predatory main menu's filled with reminders to buy DLC or other games within the franchise. Looking at you Assassins Creed Odyssey.
Wokeness - My definition for the purposes of this video... Making radical left wing politics the priority over quality.
So tired of the "identity first" movement.
Just don't buy into the hype, there will be another newer game just up the road anyway lol
"Sequels removing features" doesn't matter to me.
I don't play online games or co-op/pvp anyway
"Launching Games before they're ready" began and has been going on mostly since the PS4 era, I think. When developers realized they can just upload patches and "update" games whenever they want, it made them a lot lazier about releasing polished games.
I know I'm missing out on a lot of games but if it's online only I don't even try the game
The focus set on multiplayer and not story is what bugs me as much as paying for every little thing for games.
Many reasons mentioned on this list why I prefer retro gaming more than modern games sometimes
You forgot, terrible story, horrible character development, fugly characters, race swapping and pushing "the message"...
Out of all the games shown here, the only one that I have put time into was Spider Man 2, which was a disappointment. I'm trying to do my part for the industry.
Played about 5 hours and I hated it. Miles Morales did everything much better IMO.
Prioritizing graphics over gameplay & story is ruining games
not just battlepasses. but TIMED battlepasses are cancer. its like i paid for it, its mine now. let me go at my own pace.
also wokeness in gaming is the worst.
Online Gaming destroyed the video game industry over the past 15 years. Period. And it's never coming back. Play your backlog and/or only buy games that do not require any online component to be complete. Simple as that.
Woke consultant companies infiltrating gaming companies. Changing the lore and adding bs that no one asked for.
I always get a error message report to send to Sony than it lets me launch the game
if you're a professional player, how are you playing fairly if you have the advantage training ahead of time.
seems sketchy
Pretty much hit everything on the head in this video. I just wish games can go back to how they used to be😔
The number of times I've gotten pissed off and gone back to Mega Man X and Sonic 2 is astronomical.
In somewhat defense of Anthem, I'll give it two things:
The world/art direction is fantastic.
AAA live service games are taking by storm this generation mostly 🙄, this means we should we indie games mostly from now on.
The Sims is the greatest at showing the removing stuff in the sequels, only to repackage and resell it to the people again lol
I don’t think wokeness is the thing that ruins the modern gaming.
It’s the greedy publishers that crunches the shit out of developers. That’s why we’ve been getting shitload of unfinished video games.
The reason I have so many games, and so many I haven't finished, is due to not being able to stay still and pay attention for long these days.
Live service games could be good if they wernt from single player companies!😐
Modern Trends like Sweet Baby Inc..and DEI..are destroying modern games.....stick to older games..
Notice they dodged that elephant in the room?
not really, in fact many things some, lets call them morons, accuse SBI of doing is just false, but corporations love that kind of people easly manipulated into blame shift from greed to "woke".
@@zonezs you went through the comments and defended SBI... their DEI and ESG influence along with BRIDGE and others are damaging the gaming industry. and you are in this comment section defending them. so many people have talked to you about it (u called it debates, what a joke) You are part of the problem! not the solution. stop defending horrible behavior. bet you lost it when you saw Stellar Blade!
I don't mind paying €70 for a game as long as its finished and working properly. It's the greed that's destroying games...
No! Nothing would or could have been a good follow up to the Arkham games. Period! Especially “kill the justice league” the majority of comic fans don’t want to kill their heroes… they want to save them. Already a stupid start to a video game idea. Connecting it to the Arkham verse was an obvious ploy to use that franchises popularity. It being live service is number 10 on a list of what not to do. I’m really tired of people trying to mitigate this games utter failure to even get what gamers want.
That overwatch reference hit hard. Bought the Ashe skin, have only played dps twice since. I checked out playing helldivers now.
