Great strikers are a rare currency in modern football. While big Premier League teams like Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea are struggling for a number 9 this season - is the problem actually that desperate?
Inspired by Brentford and Newcastle, JJ Bull is here to argue that your side doesn’t need an expensive striker, but should invest in a set-piece coach to help grab goals. And also weasels.

JJ.singlehandedly carrying Tifo in the post pod era
Killed the channel binning the Tuesday podcast
@@benmurphyfulby what metric?
@@BigmanDogsall TH-cam followers are loyal to this platform, switching to another one for exclusive content is basically a kill swicth for most fans
even if I'm the most dedicated fan, I won't switch platforms or download 1 just for the sake of 1 creator, it's pointless
Agree
@@ridakesserwan8712 I guess the rationale is that the podcast content underperformed on youtube. So they switched to a platform where it doesn't hurt the algorithm of the channel. And those who do listen to the podcast are more likely to be super fans.
I’m enjoying JJ’s descent into more and more chaotic videos
He's the reason why I watch this channel. It's not a descent but an ascent. Haha
Weasels have taken control of his brain
I know it’s a serious channel and they do a good job explaining tactics but the crazier the better. My favourite series was when Joe Devine explained certain things but it was so outlandish it was great entertainment. Miss those vids
“Harness the power of the forest”is just GOLD
I’m glad JJ is breaking further and further. His mind is the main draw of Tifo IRL now
Only draw
JJ is maddening by the day and I'm here for it
This is the perfect balance of insane and informative I need from Tifo.
Well done JJ, the Weasel Master
That’s so complex , huge appreciation to the set-piece coach
"has 40 corners routine for his team in fm24" 😂😂😂
A CF with a great hold-up play ability and high-pressing effort is more important than a clinical striker, because of his capability to bring his teammates into play and to make the defending job of his teammates easier
I 100% agree, that’s what my striker would do in my tactics.
Yeah I agree with you, a great hold-up play is crucial during counter-attacks and a great pressing st will give more chance to other forwards.
And this is what makes Kane so good because he's both
This is why I think Toney would be perfect for Arsenal
Should be able to finish, too...which is where Arsenal screwed up with Jesus. Toney is a much better fit because, again, he does everything.
I'm here for this J.J carry job.
This bruddah is carrying Tifo on his back. 🔥
Im still trying to get my head around less than 1% of open play crosses lead to goal......thats mental.
Tbf, teams don't really cross the ball anymore
I used to be a striker (not in the prem but my opinion is even more relevant) i was for the teams i played a good striker but getting a ball from a cross is basically impossible to do with any reliability the balls rarely comes accurate its high up there and thats always harder to convert than a pass on the ground even when you have a great header its just complicated to get it towards the goal
And most of the time the goalkeeper has a pretty good idea where it is going
You needed Beckham :)
It’s a little misleading because goals are such a rare event. Like even direct shots on goal have a low chance of scoring too. But it does show that the old strategy of just swinging it into the box blindly is a very inefficient way to play
@@BGeezy4sheezy Crosses across the box can destabilise a defence as they have to cover several angles simultaneously
"Harness the power of the forest" hahaha love it. I know what's gonna happen.. I'll say that in a drunken football argument down the pub tonight and wonder why people look at me like I've had a stroke.
the way it cuts from JJ bejng completely insane to the outro saying "tifo has some of the best sports journalists" is hilarious to me 😂(not saying jj isnt just saying he acts like an absolute loon)😘
The slow descent into madness over the last few weeks.... it's beautiful
Arsenal are one of the best set pieces teams, but they could be even better if they had a player who was good at delivery. We don't have KDB, TAA, bruno type profiles.
Odegaard?
What¿? But taa and kdb are elite quality
@@dinohlabisa2349 He does a lot of other things well, but he's not elite in that regard.
We have Vieira, but you know, he's not at PL level yet beside his delivery
@@looniaz It's a shame he's not at the level to play consistently yet.
JJ again well done , keep them coming . I wonder if the other presenters feel the pressure too
It’s actually frightening how many goals John Terry would score in the prem these days
Keep on truckin!
I'm addicted to tifo football and tifo irl ❤....
This is weaselly the best video Tifo have done in a while, stoatally different class
Literally miss the old energy of Alex Stewart, Seb, Jj and Joe during the pandemic. Possibly the most seen I felt as a football fan in
Saying Toney is a 14-goal-a-season striker based on his XG at Brentford is rather illogical, considering that better teams tend to produce higher XG for their strikers.
Richarlison, weghorst, isak and jesus says hi
@@jacobalexander4167 Jesus and Isak have better npxG/90 than Toney.
Weghorst played behind Rashford half the time. Richarlison has played wide more than he has played centrally for Spurs.
Here in Argentina we have a club called Estudiantes de La Plata - might know them, they beat United's butt in 1968 with Osvaldo Zubeldía
They're a team that had a lot of coaches that emphasized in mastering set-piece plays. In fact, it's like a house recipe for them.
Zubeldía, the coach that kind of invented lots of new stuff like pre-videoanalysis analysis, offside traps... seemed to be a very important person for the Mechanic Orange team coach Rinus Michels, as he cited him and Estudiantes de La Plata as the creators of total football
They also had Carlos Bilardo as coach, Simeone... and this part is important cuz I got reminded about this by Trippier, who casually played in Atleti before being signed by Newcastle.
Excellent video kudos JJ
I love JJ's video, informative and entertainingeninginging.
I doubt the last three moves in the Brentford goal showed as an example were “planned”. But I do get the point.
Every time I click on a TIFO IRL vid I’m praying it’s JJ
thanks JJ, i will keep on truckin'!
For the brentford corner i noticed they had two players off the pitch. In the Arsenal game yesterday the ref pulled them up for this, asking one player to stand on the line. Any ideas??
I am sharing this opinion, but when I see Bayern how they play now compared to before Kane Bayern. Kanes impact is insane
Germany at world cup 2014 would reach the final without set pieces for example 1-0 vs france. Who trained the set pieces back then? Hansi Flick. Yes, Hansi Flick.
It is really weird that Mexico, a country that has historically struggled with set pieces, has produced the best set piece coach in the world in the form of Bernardo Cueva. Kind of ironic I guess.
Nice energy 👌
All I got from this video is that this coming game against Brentford will be a massive pain
They always happen to talk about teams will be play next lmao...
You got me, this was my soccermanager secret since the modern update. Finessing the setpieces.
its wild how good brentford are on set pieces and as a team over all in their 2nd EPL season
It's because we've had a plan and have stuck to that plan for a good 5 seasons now. We know what we want from our players, and we coach it into them. Which means that it doesn't really matter what 'formation' or tactic we play, as we can adjust seamlessly.
Only issue comes, as in yesterday, when we do not finish our big chances and then turn off at the last.
Didn't help that we're missing 2 of our most important players in Jensen and Rico Henry, as well as our other FBs in Hickey and Roerslev...plus Collins, Josh DaSilva, Toney, Schade...which is really tough on a club with a smaller squad.
You'd think with Henry, Hickey, and Jensen, we would have kept up our concentration to defend against Saka late on. Plus, Onyeka always drifted to leave Zinchenko in space, which led to Arsenal's 2 best chances before the goal. Janelt would have got tighter in midfield, if Rico was at FB and Jensen alongside in midfield.
Thank you very much. Im tired of this narrative that you have to hve a 25/30 goal a season striker to win trophies.
using Haaland as the thumbnail is funny because City bought Haaland for 60 million
Hadn't seen JJ dressing this nicely for a video; maybe ever. Still waiting for that solo album.
MadLad JJ is an evil genius! Don't sell out my man! 😂
To be fair, Isak is a 70 million pound striker before he came to Newcastle
The 5th point is mind blowing.
Bruno is such a creation monster, jfc. If only he had the proper offense to suit him (i.e. one that can routinely score goals). 😪
£150m - £200m isn't required to buy a 25/30 goal striker. Haaland and Kane cost £140m combined. Take a look at the the 10 most expensive transfers of all time, and more than half are not out and out strikers (Grealish, Rice, Caicedo, Griezmann, Coutinho, Fernandez).
Everyone made jokes when Kevin Schade was in that video from the prem on how to pronounce player names and yet here is JJ saying his name wrong
You mean Jason T actually does things that isn’t waiting about for a handshake? Mind blown. Enjoyed this. Austin McPhee not getting a mention is not something I was not prepared for.
Bring back the Pod!
I flipping love JJ so much. He could make me laugh by saying literally anything xD
God i love these videos. 😂😂😂 JJ you are a beautiful man.
Just a lovely watch, that.
Scotland have shown the value of a set-piece coach in hiring Austin McPhee. A decent sized proportion of our goals now come from corners and free kicks and it's because of his organisation and coaching. We're also better at defending them too.
JJ Bull is my hero
Trippiererer definitely is a great deliverererrerer
They should have a premier League for under 6 foot players
Not really, but yeah, I like the idea
Big Sam was right. Set piece takers and setting up to take/defend them are waaaay better than individual players.
Love your shirt
Brentford fans here. Nice to see we have weasel power🥰
JJ the Bullard doesn’t just give you high quality analysis, he’s an entertainer these days too. He’s carrying Tifo 👏🏾
I love you JJ 🤣
I'm starting to think JJ has always been Tifo's agent of chaos and absurdity and Joe is actually of sound mind. A scary thought.
Incredibly inciteful vid
JJ is the best
Question: Will Chelsea qualify for the new champions league even if they don’t play the champions league now and if they don’t qualify for the champions league next season given the new format?
I like this guy. He's funny and entertaining.
Murtough: Hey Richard, I’ve got an idea!
might have to bite the FPL bullet and acquire the Trippier in FPL.
the stoic steady stable stoat knows the secrets of the transfer market
Haaland was the missing piece of the puzzle at City that brought the long-awaited first CL victory.
(Yes, he didn't score in the final, but he didn't cost 100 million either)
google his salary😁
I assumed all or most Premier clubs already had set piece coaches on staff
I like to think JJ Bullard has no idea he works for a football channel and someone has just hidden a camera in his wall
Where Can you buy the shirt art?
JJ the mad football Wizard
Tony he is NOT just a striker that just scores goals
If JJ leaves I'm not wathing this channel anymore
How much would Darren Bent cost these days
My plan in fm next season haha
I'm gonna miss JJ when Tifo inevitably get rid of him like they did the podcast & the Tifo football show
JJ is the missing character from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
These are becoming increasingly unhinged, and I am so here for it!
What is a "set piece"?
city don’t need him but he’s nice to have
Was this channel called something else before tifo?
Awesome JJ. Thanks for making what would’ve been a controversial topic for the football ‘purists’ into such a maddeningly enjoyable piece.
The power of The Weasel ;)
Shhh. I want Brentford to make some cash on Toney
I will be using JJ’s Official 5 Point Plan For Success, in Football Manager 24
Watching this post-Athletic FC rebrand is somehow even more wild. Wild like a mighty forest weasel.
JJ is my favourite now Alex and Joe aren't around although I'd love to see an Euro Alex collab with JJ
Well Haaland was only 60m…..so now what lol
haaland cost us 50 mil so don’t have him in the thumbnail over “100 million pound striker”
Sure he only cost 50m. No off the book payments to his agent, father or third parties. Nothing to see here please carry on,
Is everything ok at home JJ?
This video is a counter to that video they made before the World Cup, that Ivan Toney could become the best striker in the next EPL season 😂
Toney guarantees those goals at Brentford, at a top 6 club you’d assume it would be comfortably over 20…
Don't change JJ
I suspect you just added no. 5 to make it five. Prove me wrong JJ!
This is why tactics and coaching actually matter way more in American football, because every play of the game is a set piece.
Thats a fair take But Its a bit of a dramatic take that it matters much more.
Football does take a lot of tactics, but another very important part is training, simply getting better and more comfortable with the Ball, Which isnt really the same with American football since catching and running with a Ball in your hands is much easier than with feet.
@@ismingo4264 except for the part where there's 11 guys trying to hit you and rip the ball out your hands
@@liamconverse8950 What does that have to do with skill? I mean i guess it does take some skill to hold on to a Ball, But i Can gurantee it takes much more talent and skill to control a Ball with your feet enough to where 11 other dudes, and 4 perticularly Big dudes cant just kick it off you
JJ more hyper than ever
BRING BACK THE POD!!
Somewhere Sam Allardyce, the OG weasel wizard, is smiling
Not the weasel!!!?!
