When did J.J. start wearing shirts with button-down collars? I still think of him as wearing only t-shirts. When did he start morphing into his middle-aged form?
This feels odd. These two used to be different groups just overlapped, TIFO and the other one where Hamil was. Ornstein to boot. The Athletic just owns everything and everyone now.
Re: Robinson - he was actually tested out in those central areas by Pochettino in the latest USMNT match, and he seemed quite comfortable and adept in the role. It remains to be seen how that carries over to tougher competition, though.
Two up front died long before Guardiola. Let’s not pretend Guardiola completely redesigned football, when the real pioneers were people like Cruyff, Michels, Bielsa, Rangnick. Pep combined all these pioneers and put them in teams that included some of the best players to have ever played the game.
What are you talking about? Pep revolutionised no such thing, he's a system merchant. I admit, a great manager, but can we plz stop giving he credit, for things he's not responsible for. 😕
@@geekylove3603Though I mostly do not agree with this guys assessment of Pep, it is definitely absolute nonsense that Pep invented the 4-3-3 system, it has been around for a long time outside of the British isles.
People still fond of Trent Alexander-Arnold have a short memory or have not been following the game long enough to know how it always ends. Years ago there was another player by the name of Michael Owen that fans absolutely adored. He was one of our own and we couldn't care less if he was injured or playing badly. Then we lost what affection we had for him when he let his contract run down and forced the club to sell him on the cheap. We got 25% of his then market value. That was the betrayal. After that I stopped caring what he did. What Trent Alexander Arnold is doing is worse. He has no excuse whatsoever to leave when the club is competing at the highest level. That too for "free". Circling back to the story of Michael Owen. Going to Real I could still feel indifferent. Ending up at United was and is unforgivable. Years at school arguing with gloating United fans but we had Owen! 10 years later he's there and the texts start flowing in. What are the chances of Trent (next Mr. Ballon Dor) of ending up the same.
There's a difference though. Owen (and Mcmanaman) had both promised the fans that they would be staying. We had no insight into how the contract negotiations went. So it was a binary thing. They lied to us, and then fucked off. For less money and in Owen's case, less minutes. With the transfer committee it's a bit different. We know they have a track record of failing to agree market value contracts with players. From Wijnaldum onwards a string of players have left because the club didn't want to pay big wages. I expect Salah and Van Dijk to go too. Same reasons. So this doesn't feel like a matter of treachery. It feels like a matter of policy. I blame the club not him. When he leaves he's going to be on half a million a week, easy. But he could earn two-thirds of that here. Sentimentality only stretches so far. Reminds me of the Sterling sitch. We stole him from QPR when he was 17. Consistently underpaid him. Refused to pay him 50k a week the summer before he left because (quoting Brendon Rodgers) 'money isn't good for young players.' Then acted like it was a moral outrage when he left for a club that was actually willing to pay him. Loads of people will be pissed off when Trent leaves I'm sure. I'll just be sad. No hard feelings.
Have you heard about contracts? Players have every right not to extend their contracts just as clubs have. Why would Trent extend his contract if he knows he wants to leave? Harry Kane anyone? He did exactly what you demand and in the end he had to go to Bayern because noone els would take him.
Thank you David Ornstein, thanks your dangerously cutting edge journalism I'm now aware that; with each day that parses, we're get closer to January FIRST.... WOW
Bit harsh. Was a great video. Whilst i love the silliness of Joe, this would be great content to replace the terrible opinions on display at Sky, TNT etc
This is the beginning of the end then. The athletic has finally killed the only good football channel on youtube. Instead of anyone light, smart, witty, interesting and who has good chemistry with those around him - they replace Joe with a sky sports panel tier banal football daily slop-content farm presenter. Profoundly uninteresting content, unsubscribed

Hamils alive? Missed the FD reunion!

Must be because Ornstein is in the building
It's cold, got to layer up. I'm sure he's wearing some sort of whacky t-shirt underneath
Why is little Trotsky being so intense?
Lol I told the guy he looked just like Trotsky a couple years ago and he laughed, counter revolutionary style 🤠
@@willywonka7812hahaha, glad he has a sense of humor about it. Would be quite grim if he didn't!

Whatever
Delap, Palmer, Lavia, Trafford, Rogers
Jesus Christ. City truly dropped the ball.
It happens to every team when they have a very successful men's first team...look at what happened to Chelsea in the mid 2010s
It's great to see the King of the Segue, CP Hamill, is alive. I would love him to have his own show on Athletic FC.
Re: Robinson - he was actually tested out in those central areas by Pochettino in the latest USMNT match, and he seemed quite comfortable and adept in the role. It remains to be seen how that carries over to tougher competition, though.
Hammill and JJ together on a pod. What a treat!!
Hammill the Animal! 🎉❤
Been a while Chris Hamill!
John hasn't given us a woof in ages, petition to have him give us a birthday woof?
I love these videos. It's are some of the best football content on youtube
The hamster is back on TH-cam 🎉
Liverpool needs to Lock in. We need to keep the main lads and bring in atleast 1
7:40 - Perhaps Robinson would be a good fit for Amorim's United
Definitely
Nice to see Chris back on the screen as a former FD fan
Best part of the episode
The random quick Ornstein edits are great! Thank you editor(s)!😂
This is my dream team for football podcast.
JJ, John, David and the dude replacing Joe are really awesome at their no nonsense analysis
I much prefer this host!
Bruno to city makes sense but he might have like 3 good seasons
David's laugh at 7:25
Imagine if journalists like Ornstein were as animated about football as they are about transfers
Tierney.. Celtic.. Here we go? I thought that was someone else's catchphrase 😂😂😂
Who is in the picture frame in Jean jacket and Boss t-shirt? And what’s the context of that picture?
Eric Cantona
thanks!

Hamill what a boy
Thats not Joe
take a shot every time they say admire
0:02 How could they have passed up on the "full of vitality" description? It's the TIFO lore for crying out loud!
Hamster 🤙🏻
Ademola Lookman, I've never seen a more obvious arsenal transfer
who in their right mind is gonna want rashford? terrible attitude, insane wages, and frankly, not very good
Excuse me, where is I'm Joe Devine? Sick? And you still did the pod?
Yes Hammil!
Should've replaced Joe with Thomlinson. Iykyk
CP Hamilllllllll 😃
YES!!! The hamster. Hail hail.
no big joe :( but great video as always!
Nobody will pay a lot of money for Rashford, so not a big transfer. 😅
