  • Learn how to build a basic customer management (CRM) database. This is the perfect way to learn how to start building databases from scratch using Access. It consists of a simple customer table and form. I like to use it as a template for starting new databases so I don't have to recreate these objects from scratch.

    I consider myself to be a visual learner, but have only found books in the past about Access. I have very specific data needs at times and it has been very difficult to articulate those to others to build a database for me. Today, after watching this video, it clicked for me. Thank you so much for posting and sharing your expertise.

    I've been an old-school eacher (and a student, of course) and appreciate excellent teaching. I've used basic Excel but been frustrated because I I didn't know how to manipulate the data to make it useful. And been afraid of databases for perhaps a generation thinking it was only for the tech-savvy. I'm more than impressed with the quality of teaching in this video. All the essentials and no attempt to impress with jargon. Excellent! Thanks. Now I feel that I have hope.

    Thank you so much! I actually paid to go through this course many years ago and then never actually used access. Many years later I am now using my software for my own business and I needed to remember how... I found your vid and just watching this one, I can tell you It is absolutely amazing because it was so much easier to accomplish following your video than I remember going through it in class (and I paid alot of money for that course). Much appreciated! I will definitely be checking out your other videos and your website. Feeling very grateful over here! Thank you for creating this!!!

    I took a computer class years ago, in my undergrad program, at which time I learned how to use Access. I wasn't good in the computer class, only getting a low C. =) I remember thinking, "I will never use this." Well, fast forward over 15 years later and about 5 business in, here I am. =) Thanks for this tutorial! It was a great help! =)

    The last time I fooled around with a relational database was back in 1991 on an Amiga 2000, and though I understood the concepts, it was more work than I had time to give it (the Gulf War opened up, a busy time), so I shied away from them. I've had Access on my computers for over a decade, but I've never had enough incentive to check it out. Now I have an incentive and ended up watching this video. I hadn't realized that it had gotten this easy. Thanks for the video lessons and I'll probably be around a good bit more.

    • @599CD

      You have the property set to Random instead of Incremental. And don't worry about the actual number it's on. That number is for Access. NOT YOU. See 599cd.com/AutoNumbers

    I am sure I have reached to right person with my question.
    Currently I am hired at a company which is using an ERP like software made of Ms Access 97 (.Mdb extension) with VBA running on windows 98 Operating system. They are stuck with this old thing and now they want to migrate to latest version and wishing to have that same ERP (User interface, correnponding database).
    For me this was a new issue and never faced myself. I did some research and was able to convert files with .mdb ext to .accdb ext but how do convert the whole UI and also the database? Please help.
    Can I replicate the whole thing in a newer format of access and vba. I know its a lot of work but I see this as adequate and appropriate solution. Let me know if I am wrong. Please tell me how do I proceed wit this.? Thank you.

    I'm researching a method to track our coaching clients. I have looked at Asana etc but they all seem too complex (and expensive). As a 365 subscriber I have Access, so wondering if it will: create start & end date for each client, by name / list which team member is working with that coach / allow individual coaches to access the db to update 'coaching notes' after each session / restrict access to onlt that individual coaches area/section of the db, i.e. they could only see the clients they are working with, not everyone elses. Can Access do this? Thanks

    • @599CD
      @599CD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Access can absolutely do this. However, if you want to add security like you mentioned, it will require a little extra setup work. Individual user logons are not normally part of Access, but I show how to do that in my Security Seminar 599cd.com/Security. And if you want to share the database with your coaches remotely, you can set up a Virtual Cloud PC. See 599cd.com/ADC.

    Is there a way to share an Access Database across the web? I want to use it as CRM but have a couple salespeople that work from home. I’d want the data to be current for everyone using it.

    Richard, thanks for your videos. I have about 1,000 contacts that I keep on spreadsheets. Every 6 months I have 150 contacts where I collect all their information including one or two field updates in a spreadsheet. Would changing to an Access database allow me to easily import the new data into an Access database that will not create a duplicate contact? Thanks!!!

    Can you make a video or provide a template for a BASIC but functional order entry management system in Access? I know there is the Northwind template but it's a bit unnecessarily robust.

    • @599CD
      @599CD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. That's what I spend the bulk of my Expert series working on, starting with Access Expert Level 6. 599cd.com/XAC13X6
      I'm actually going to be releasing a Template very soon that is JUST the basic Order Entry system for people who don't want to go through hours of training. They just want something quick and simple. Stay tuned.
