2021 Steam Show Highlights, Bucyrus Erie 15B maintenance, operation overview, and digging!

- Some highlights of the Canandaigua Pageant of Steam 2021, and doing some clutch work on the 15B. While there, I'll show you a general overview of how to run the machine, then move some dirt!

What was once common is increasingly rare, it’s good some of these units are being saved and displayed for future generations to see hear and watch them work .
Just as important the skills to maintain and operate are passed along or the machines will just become curiosities
Looks like all you need is a good rust removal, surface prep, and several coats of paint, and clear. Something that beautiful deserves some cosmetic TLC along with the obvious mechanical care. WELL DONE !
I met a guy that had a Chrysler straight 8 in a roadster, he said the engine was from a Bucyrus Erie crane. I worked on a Dodge 413ci flathead 6 in one, they had hydraulic lifters, twin carbs and dual exhaust headers! (NO, NOT the wedge v8, I have several of those!) When you crawled out of that at the end of the day you were as wore out as if you'd been using a shovel all day! Except your hands keep moving all night and you can still hear It with your eyes wide open!

That would take some time to get use to using your foot. It explains to me why some early Hydraulic Hoes. Had foot control for function
Also the forward and back for swing. BE had that pattern till the END of there construction Equipment line. I remember getting on the NEWER 350 -H the dipper/ Tool was in ditch.
Operator had gone to bathroom. The Lead ditch man, wanted me to move the Tool just a little. Me being on CASE 680. Hoepacking the backfill
Pushed the lever for swing, out. The BE did nothing my hands were wanting it to do. The machine started swinging in ditch. It was A- OK though got her out of way for the Lead. The operator had lots of experience on all early BE equipment Line. It was a powerful Machine. Tore through Hard Pan gravel like nothing. Remember changing Teeth, like 4 times a day. That was when the Backhoes, even the Hydraulic ones still had OILERs. He was really a ditch top man. Taking ditch depths most of the day. Anyway Thank you so much, for showing operations. Absolute genius machines. These cable backhoes would be effective even today, mostly because of small capital costs
It appears to be a J I Case rock crusher, I have one like it. Mine had a large diameter drive pulley adapted to it so it could be powered with a higher rpm gas engine. I need to get a discharge conveyor on mine. Fun stuff!
The old baker ran good in the spark show little rusty 2022s spark show will be better i promise
I know someone with an inward facing steam shovel, super rare he hauls it with an autocar and owns an international tractor
How do they get those things there? Especially the stationary steam engines
