thebllackparade hence why it says punk fashion not punk culture. you don’t necessarily need to discuss all of punk culture when you’re just trying to discuss the fashion
Punk is not just a culture, but a movement and a rebellion within their music of their certain disliking of society, in fact they do not care of how they dress. You can wear something dramatic and be considered as punk, or not even have to dress like it and be still considered as punk. But during the 80s-90s in New York most punks get beaten up for the way they look so sometimes they can't handle a week to dress up the way they do.
wow, didn't expect to see Pussy Riot as Russian punk. well, I can't say they are not punk, but they don't represent the entire subculture here, in Russia.
Pussy Riot are not punk and didn't claim to be, at least not in the beginning. they were part of an art group that occasionally appropriated elements of punk and feminism for their performance art. I guess very few people even in Russia know that they never were a real band, like they didn't play gigs or release records.
I was a punk in England from 1977 to 1982 and we dyed our hair different colours as well as spiked it.Leather biker jackets didn't become part of the look until after Sid Viscious died really and the geometric painting of the face soon died out after about 1978! We just used a lot of eyeliner, lots of different coloured eyeshadow, lots of lippy and stripes of deep pink blusher, lol! After Sid died and the Pistols imploded, the leather biker jacket became uniform along with skinny jeans- which we had to customise ourselves because you couldn't buy them that tight in those days!- and band t-shirts.It became a bit of a uniform really and lost a fair bit of the originality and uniqueness that it started off with in '76-77! Finally, I have to point out that, whilst the punk movement was passionately anti-racist and we all loved reggae as well, hardly ANY black kids were into punk music nor the scene at all! Black kids started mixing with white kids once the Two- Tone Ska movement started, which orginated in Coventry with band like the Specials, originally known as the Coventry Automatics, who combined punk and reggae sounds to spark the new Two Tone movement!

punk isnt necesarilly political, lots of punk bands even those early bands werent about politics, lots of them touched social subjects without mentioning politics whatsoever like black flag had song depression, circle one had social climing leeches, germs had manimal, and so on and so forth..
i think japanese punk is less political in our sense as it is rebellion against their strict conformist society, the kawaii and gyaru/ganguro movements are in the same line as j-punk the right to artistic self expression n rebelling against being boring. in japan they say the nail that sticks out gets hammered down but people rebelling against that has also made japan an amazing artistic place with a rich youth culture
no, it isn't 'dress up' if you're expressing yourself in a way you feel comfortable. punk can be completely isolated from politics sis. it's about the music and fashion imo.
I think people are slightly missing the point in terms of authenticity. Many people say German punks don't look like like this, which is true but they clearly stated that this look was based more on the New Wave and New Romantic style that simultaneously began to grow in Germany. As for Russia, we have to remember that this isn't all modern punk and more a collection of interesting influential styles, I feel like it's more of a summary, you can't represent an entire nation in one video. As for English punk, I will admit the facts are wrong and the style is muted, However doesn't it kind of defeat the purpose of punk to over analyse a tribute video.
I disagree with this video 1.Punk fashion started in London 2. Punks don't dress like that (not all I guess) 3. Punks don't like labels, and I know. Because I am "punk" but I don't dress like it due to work circumstances, but other than that my vest is my best attire ✌

0:58 the German punk evolving into the "Neue Deutsche Welle" is somewhat accurately described. We wore fluorescent neon stuff and punk elements in the German pop scene of the 80es. Like Nena, and Kraftwerk. The existence of an Iranian punk scene clothing accordingly to religion is something absolutely new to me.
wee wee woo wa punk doesn't exist anymore. Grew up punk in the 80s-early 90s: We were poor kids who were political (usually anti-establishment, anti-government control). We shopped at thrift stores due to having little money, got creative with making our clothes, had to REALLY go out of our way to go to shows, ordered music (through zines) and at obscure record shops. The attitude/culture isn't really there anymore. The internet and commercialization of the culture killed it.
Oh, good God, please no. Watch Liisa Ladouceur's "40 Years of Goth Style." She did one for women and one for men and then also shoes. They're all pretty accurate apart from a few minor slip-ups here and there.

I have very mixed feelings about this. Much of them negative though. But I guess they are looking at this from purely a clothing perspective, without much concern for what "punk" means as a subculture. I mean, Harajuku punk is not terribly subversive compared to other styles. Kogals are way more punk in mentality, but they don't fit the stereotype for fashion.

Wtf punk's don't look like that in germany
They kind of looked like that in the 80s
Back in the late 70s and 80s. See Nina Hagen.
Looks more new romantic than punk..
kano ishi I think they base it on google searches....google is god damn snitch
Look at the 80s. Nina Hagen was a huge influencer on that look.
There are no rules or locations for punk fashion and first of all let's not forget that clothing is one of the most unimportant aspect of punkculture ...
Okay but how can you talk about german punk and not mention Nina Hagen? The outfit may've been modeled after her, but give her credit where it's due.
David Pavlas if you check the dictionary, you will see that "Allure videos" are listed as an antonym for "accuracy" and "giving credit" both. I hate myself for always falling for their title traps.
It looked a lot like Nina
1:44 she whacc, she atacc but importantly
Give her eyebrows bacc
lol
No way, I looked at her face for the firsttine and I had no idea what's missing :'D
@@anikohacsek3849 bru h my comment was a yEaR ago , buT it's Kk
Southern California Punk is way different then the Allure watered down version. Their version is more indie rock then anything. I wish they actually went to a native and filmed their creative outfits instead. That would have inpressed me! Still this is cute.
Ору с людей которые это сделали. В России не так выглядят панки и спасибо что выставили нас в таком свете, "очень приятно"
Are you ebobo?Тут конкретно про стиль Пусек было сказано,не про всех русских панков(одним из коих ты вряд ли являешься),так что хватит тут искать повод ущемиться.
Myanmar is so sick
Elizabeth ye lol
Ikr it's my fave
Elizabeth I'm part burmese, and I was so not expecting Myanmar to be in here! Proper surprised.
Yeah, me too
I want to look like that. Looks so awesome.
but what's the point of punk without the politics? doesn't it just turn into playing dress up?
punk isnt necesarilly political, lots of punk bands even those early bands werent about politics, lots of them touched social subjects without mentioning politics whatsoever like black flag had song depression, circle one had social climing leeches, germs had manimal, and so on and so forth..
i think japanese punk is less political in our sense as it is rebellion against their strict conformist society, the kawaii and gyaru/ganguro movements are in the same line as j-punk the right to artistic self expression n rebelling against being boring. in japan they say the nail that sticks out gets hammered down but people rebelling against that has also made japan an amazing artistic place with a rich youth culture
I know, it's just not the same without the meaning behind it.
no, it isn't 'dress up' if you're expressing yourself in a way you feel comfortable. punk can be completely isolated from politics sis. it's about the music and fashion imo.
russian punk? i think you mean: twenty one pilots
I guess, if you consider 21p to be punk. But it really, really isn't
theviolents oo i meant the balaclava
I don't know English and I don't know what you wrote, but there are not such punks in Russia! They wear everyday clothes and go to pee. 👌
@@gasnsip7959 he says because of the balaclavas
@★Zoechu★ and not only that
Никто:
Абсолютно никто:
Панк из России: Надо напялить маску, платье и лосины!
Why didn’t you use different countries instead of multiple places from America...?
Isabella Koch new york appeared twice
I hate when they refer different places of America as "All around the world" .
TheCrazyKittyNerd I mean the world is America
from when is Germany in America ?
Isabella Koch When did Russia, Iran, Myanmar, and South Africa become America???
I disagree with this video
1.Punk fashion started in London
2. Punks don't dress like that (not all I guess)
3. Punks don't like labels, and I know. Because I am "punk" but I don't dress like it due to work circumstances, but other than that my vest is my best attire ✌
Meghan Diaz Trust me, you'll appreciate labels once you alcohol as a kid on accident.... Trust me.
Meghan Diaz it is punk from the 70s I guess...of course things changed...
Exactly ny didnt brought punk back in london
*+Rainbean* wrote: _Meghan Diaz Trust me, you'll appreciate labels once you alcohol as a kid on accident.... Trust me._
What do you mean? I don't understand what you are saying.
Actually punk fashion started in America due to Richard hell Malcom mclaren loved his style so much he made the Sex Pistols dress like him
0:58 the German punk evolving into the "Neue Deutsche Welle" is somewhat accurately described. We wore fluorescent neon stuff and punk elements in the German pop scene of the 80es. Like Nena, and Kraftwerk.
The existence of an Iranian punk scene clothing accordingly to religion is something absolutely new to me.
the most unpunk thing to do is to care about how you look
STFU you're allowed to like how you look. If you like spikey hair then do it. Quit telling people how to act.
the most unpunk thing to do is to call something unpunk. there are no rules to being punk.
wee wee woo wa punk doesn't exist anymore.
Lol yep
gatekeeper
Would love a goth one!
Oh, good God, please no. Watch Liisa Ladouceur's "40 Years of Goth Style." She did one for women and one for men and then also shoes. They're all pretty accurate apart from a few minor slip-ups here and there.
They have one on goth already.
Adrienne Cannella NO THANKS
It would be awful. I commented on almost all the errors in this video, check it out. Goth has already been done by another company by the way, and it sucked.
Adrienne Rudie
Sure, Just teleport in the 1970’s at France! My dad told me goth was Popular!!! Don’t cry if you find them Scary and Rude… I’m NEVER gonna go anyways(I’m not hating on france but my dad is french and so He used to told me how before… Being Tough, Emo/Goth/Demonic and doing Drugs was cool back then when he was a Child…)
Let's not mention russia.
Person no
Why?
Yeah, the improvised balaclava was a work of art.
What What? I am a Russian
Sims Alisa They are talking about how awful they look in this video
When I saw the Russian one I laughed like hell😂😂😂😂😂
same lmao
I love your profile picture :)
Да... Теперь я понимаю, как Россию представляют за границей... Вы серьёзно думаете, что мы так живём? Максимум наши панки собираются в повседневной одежде на вписках и пьют энергетики.
No mention of Sex pistols or Siouxsie Sioux? My lordy
Memegirl334 Wasnt Siouxsie more post punk/goth???
Yes, while she's considered an idol of goth fashion for women, she intertwined punk elements into her clothing.
Siouxsie ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Siouxsie is gothic new wave not punk
Lucius Malfoy lmao Gothic new wave ok
purgen would be dissapointed to see what people think russian punk is
If you walk around London like that you're getting shanked

RIP The People I Roast Lmfao ikr, there's a difference between fashion and half the inaccurate bullshit on here
Love JAPAN and Reita from The Gazette in the background.
Reita was the best thing of the whole video 😂😂
Почему я, живя в России, никогда не видела таких панков? 😂😂😂
too bad yugoslavian punk and new wave weren’t represented... such an iconic style era

Japan's punk was really creative❤
Yeah!!! MYANMAR!!! ❤❤❤
Salutes to my friends from Myanmar. ❤❤❤
Punk adapted to fit religion and common culture seems to kind of defeat the purpose
Kay Slinger everything in this video is made up though.
Kay Slinger Ikr. Such bull
Elise M why
You do kinda need to find a balance between protesting and being immediately killed by a very well oiled regime.
Yeah the video worded it incorrectly, it's more like rebelling it, whilst still following the law.
I’m loving the “Germany” look
the girl in California she is not punk she is emo
If you look up “924 Gilman St. 1980” you’ll see that almost everyone dressed like that. Now black shirts and vans/converse are considered “emo”, but it all originated as East Bay Punk.
+Saint Jimmy all im saying is that true punk had nothing to do with emo. emo was made. in 2005 but punk was made in London and in new York in 1976 and this is coming from some one who is a punk
@@beverlydavis2219 Emo wasn't made in 2005, and it's roots are directly from Hardcore. If you're such a "true punk", you'd know that. There were many emo bands before the wave of pop punk emo groups of the early 2000's.
California was not "Punk", that's called emo, punk in California was like The Runaways in the 70's.
The Runaways are amazing, btw. I’m thoroughly convinced that Joan Jett IS Vampira.
No it isn't lol. Their was no punk scene centered around the sound The Runaways made, la punk is synonymous with hardcore punk and always has been
