- Cornelia Jakobs will represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin with the song 'Hold Me Closer'.
Cornelia had entered Melodifestivalen twice before, in 2011 and 2012, with her former girlband Love Generation. But solo with Hold Me Closer was the first time she’d made the Melodifestivalen final. Now she’s won it, a lot more people will be introduced to the singing and songwriting talent (who turned 30 in the same week that she won Melodifestivalen), as she prepares to take to the Eurovision stage for her country in Turin.

@@Elnur__cafarov I have a TH-cam extension to bring back dislikes, and the simplified ratio of likes to dislikes is 290 : 27. That doesn't make it winner's material, but that makes it top 3, and if you come into account of all the other ratios, you'll see that Sweden is the 3rd highest of likes, but not everyone likes or dislikes videos so we need to wait and see.

I've never had Sweden as a favorite, I recognized their perfectionism but always thought they were way too generic and overrated, at least in the last decade. This woman and song is just pure emotion, charisma and authenticity, so raw. Honestly, she makes me feel so many things and literally stole my heart since I discovered her with her first performance a month ago. I don't concieve another winner. This is magic. As a Swede it’s sort of frustrating to see that we for the last two decades had loads of really cool and good entires in Melodifestivalen, but they often end up in 2nd or 3rd place.
And we send a very very very polished and perfectly executed pop song, with a great stage number, again.
I mean I get it we vote sort of fairly. Whoever just objectively pulls off the most impressive performance in terms of vocals and stage number usually wins.
But it makes for pretty uninteresting entries to compete with.
Like Loreen is the embodiment of the type of artist we usually don’t send to Eurovision. Genuinely good, interesting and cool.
The year before euphoria, she competed in Melodifestivalen with the song “my heart is refusing me”, she made it to the second chance but didnt even make it Melodifestivalens finale.
And the song I would say is even better than euphoria, her voice as great as ever, but the stage number was nowhere near as polished and perfect.
And even though “my heart is refusing me” became a international hit and charted in multiple countries.
The less than perfect stage number meant she didn’t have a chance in Mello.
A year later she comes back with a better stage number, and I guess meeting mellos lowest expectations on everything being perfect, meant that when we finally sent something interesting it was a clear winner.

Excellent in every single sense, and moving to tears!!! Living up to Sweden's brilliant reputation and history far as good modern music is concerned. And what a fantastic voice, which in the low notes is so much my beloved Lana del Rey like, while entering the chorus part it reminds me of Lady Gaga in "shallow" from "a star is born" and so does the song itself, only it's even better than the later, a little inspired by it but most certainly not a copy at all, i actually think it takes it to a much higher level! I agree about this song's chorus being better than "Shallow", which people compare it with, even though I really don't get the comparison. The lyrics to "Shallow"'s chorus feels manufactured compared to "Hold Me Closer", which is more raw and emotional. People only prefer "Shallow" as better because it's from Lady Gaga.

@@dasmysteryman12 To my opinion it's not a matter of comparison, since as a whole, this song, though following to an extend the tracks of "shallow", is overall totally different. As i have already written it just seems to be inspired by it and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. To tell you my own experience about "hold me closer", listening to it i felt my heard beating from the very start. This had to do with the voice of Cornelia which at the beginning clearly alluded to Lana del Rey, and the refined similarity to "shallow" at the chorus part, so i sort of had the feeling that i was not listening to the song for the first time. Yet, i loved it before i realized the similarities i mentioned above, and this clearly means that it's not a copy we're talking about here.Personally i think it's better than "shallow", and in any case being inspired by a song to compose a better one, is nothing one can be blamed for.

I thank there is no such thing as finding the right one but at the wrong time, there is only falling for a wrong person out of immaturity and not having learnt your lessons. I’ve listened to this song about 20 times in the past 24 hours 😂 I love this song SO MUCH. I can really relate to the lyrics as I’m going through something similar right now. And I get emotional every time.
The raspy voice, the melody and the energy from the crowd just gives me goosebumps all way through the song. Sweden this is phenomenal. This is my no.1. The first time I heard it during the first Semi-Final of Melodifestivalen, it was the ONLY thing that I listened in the next 24 hours after that.
A thought; exactly how does a song get overrated? A song becomes exactly as popular as you listeners do it, right?
When people hype the song way too much than it's supposed to have. A song being overrated is subjective.
I think the media can make songs overrated and underrated by giving too much exposure to some songs compared to others.
Listeners' opinion is obviously never wrong, as that's what makes a song good or bad, but I do think that media hype some songs more than they should.

Honestly didn't think I would love this as much as I do. This song has grown on me more and more. The Netherlands was my my favourite until this, it is a classically beautiful song. The best ones (like this) have a melancholic vibe . Beauty infused with sadness, f*cking perfect Sweden!

Wow. I’ll admit this song didn’t massively draw me in when listening briefly in the recap video but I’m listening to the full version with tears in my eyes. Sweden have had loads of genuinely cool and interesting artists and songs the last 2 decades.
That often feel more genuine and have a cool point of view.
We just don’t send them.
They tend to come in 2nd or 3rd place.
And we send a very very polished well written and perfectly sung (but sort of boring) pop song instead.
Usually the stage number is a lot better for the pop song.
Loreen was like the perfect embodiment of the type of cool artist that normally would end up 2nd place in Melodifestivalen, but she got the same level of really polished staging the winning pop songs usually have so she actually mange to win Mello (and Eurovision).
And the one time we sent our typical 2nd place type artist in 2007(?) with “worrying kind” with the ark. You guys hated it.
But atleast it was something I thought was genuinely cool of us to send to Eurovision.

Sweden certainly puts effort into finding the Euro song, probably more so than any other country,
that said.. they have submitted some amazing songs and some "meh" songs over the years, Cornelia has certainly stepped up as the best Swedish entry since Zelmerlow's "Heroes".

Im from sweden, and its true the swedish people put a lot of thought into their choices, thing is, this year we got lucky with plenty of people who had great songs, other years we might not get as lucky, the best singers dont come every year plus we only get to choose between like 27 people😅 also i know that many people here in sweden love eurovision and our mellodifestivalen, for me its a family tradition and im very passionate for it🥳

The international jury is always up for debate as its just a couple of people having the same power as the people. If anything more people from Czech Republic should have a say and I think Cornelia would have received points from the country at least. I wouldnt be surprised if the Czech jury at Eurovision gives Cornelia points. When 4-5 people have a say it comes down to personal preference rather than an indication of what said country would enjoy at Eurovision. People compliment the juries rn because Cornelia won through them but if more countries had voted like the Czech jury we would have had Bagge. We dont need to get rid of the jury necessarily but maybe expand and make it so that its a more accurate representation of what countries at Eurovision will enjoy. Maybe even give a voting link to 25 Czech music experts and 25 regular Czech people. As the last couple of years Sweden has usually been a jury darling and flopped with the televote. It makes zero sense to let 4-5 people have that much power and just sparks anger. If you are going to have an international jury, at least do it right. It shouldnt be difficult to do and I hope many countries try to make it a thing in their NFs.Thanks for the 12p and really enjoy the Czech entry this year!
@@esctalk I think it's good the way it is in Sweden right now. Juries saved Cornelia to ESC, as they did for Domi in Czechia. And I'm glad they did because they are both in my top 5 at the moment. Spain is doing it wrong as they had a 5 person jury giving 50 % of the points and sending Chanel to ESC despite Tanxugueiras winning the televote with a landslide.
@@Eppu_Paranormaali My point was that the other jury groups could all just as easily have voted like the Czech jury and then we would have had Bagge and not Cornelia. When you have jury groups that consist of 4-5 people each it comes down to personal preference and doesnt give an accurate enough indication of what those countries will like at Eurovision. If the Czech jury gives us points at Eurovision then how does the international jury at Melodifestivalen make any sense whatsoever as the Czech Jury there gave it 0 points? I mean we had a Czech jury in our NF to find out what Czechs will be likely to enjoy at Eurovision right? Idk about you but I seriously doubt that a Czech jury at Eurovision would be very likely to give Theoz points but not likely at all to give Cornelia any points. Im not saying it should go away but worked on is all. Make it like 25 music experts and 25 regular people from Czech Republic and let them all vote (then you get an indication of what the televote of those countries will like as well. Then let them have the same power as the 4-5 experts have rn.
