  • In this video, I show you how to properly rotate your tires on your car (Tesla Model Y). This is an in-depth tutorial that applies to a Tesla Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y, and any other car. It is important that you rotate your tires because, over time, they wear differently. To ensure your tires last a long time do as I instruct in this video.

    This is the only video on TH-cam where someone actually does it correctly. All of the other videos has some clown jacking up the vehicle and proceed to take off the wheels using the jack as the support. Then you got other clowns copying that clown and soon it's a freaking circus. If you don't have access to a lift, you can still do a tire rotation by lifting at the control arms and then putting a jack stand where the pucks go. That way you can get a jack stand on both lift points on each side. I've been working on cars for over 25 years and I swear I see Tesla owners do the dumbest crap. I'm just waiting for one day when the jack fails and someone loses a finger, hand, or foot.
    By the way, great video but I do have one suggestion. There is a service menu that you should go into which will immediately reconfigure the tpms location. I do that after every rotation so the tpms location is correct rolling out of the garage. It may automatically adjust but I do things by the book.

    Great info. You might want to add to change the tire pressures on these wheels after rotation. We've different tire pressures on front vs rear wheels.

      Thanks for the feedback, I guess I just assumed that most people would check the car's tpms system to see if the pressure was correct. Thanks for bringing that up!

      Unless it is the performance model, you shouldn't have different tire pressures. they should all be at 42psi.

      Nope, there are many patterns to do it in. No singular correct way👍

  • @nycameleon
    @nycameleon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    But the stock model X has different size front and rear wheels and directional rims so you can't rotate anything unless you go aftermarket wheels first, and even then you would be reversing direction which is generally not recommended.

    • @TheMileHighMechanic
      @TheMileHighMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The X's do have a different front and rear tire size that makes it so that so they cannot be rotated. As long as you pick a wheel and tire combo that have the same size tires and don't have directional tread (which hardly any do) then you will be able to rotate them.

  • @kimwong2053

    Can you do an X pattern tire rotation as well on the Model Y AWD?

    • @TheMileHighMechanic
      @TheMileHighMechanic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I show how to do a front cross rotation (which I do on all of my vehicles). But the rear cross and double cross (X) rotations are acceptable as long as you have non-directional tread.

    • @TheMileHighMechanic
      @TheMileHighMechanic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kimwong2053 There is not a "better" tire rotation technique due to the fact that a tire rotation is performed to reduce uneven tire wear. Also, I would try to stick to one technique to ensure that you get the longest life of your tires.

  • @thomaswilson2917

    Your plan only works if the front and the Rear tire sizes are the same.
    My model S had different sizes front and rear.
    Also if you have air suspension you need to put the vehicle in jack mode.

    • @TheMileHighMechanic
      @TheMileHighMechanic  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct. Yes, only performance models and some model s come with staggered set ups. The model Y does not have air suspension so it doesn't have jack mode.

    Tesla Mobile mechanic came and just put the rear straight up to the front and the front straight back to the rear, no criss cross!!!

    • @TheMileHighMechanic
      @TheMileHighMechanic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      People do it different ways but I prefer to criss cross 2 tires so they wear down more evenly. If you do it the way showed in this video, the tires will end up being in every location, or in other words, 1 wheel will end up being in every position on the car (thus making it wear like all the other tires). Moving the back ones up and the front ones back isn't bad, but it will make it so that the left tires never leave the left side and the right tires never leave the right side. So what i'm trying to get at is that doing a cross makes the tire rotation more of a "rotation" instead of just a "swap." I do appreciate your input and I hope you found my video helpful and informative.

If you want to do it yourself all you need is some tesla pucks, special jack stands and a low profile jack.

    • @TheMileHighMechanic
      @TheMileHighMechanic  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is one way to do it, but unless you have directional tread on your tires, there is no reason to keep them all spinning in the same direction. The rear "X" balances out different wear characteristics from each corner. This leads to more even tread wear on all of the tires. There is no wrong way to do a rotation, but this is the way I found that works best

      I do not think all performance models have staggered wheel sets but in the case that you do, you cannot rotate them . You will just have to swap another set on if you want to "rotate" them to keep them from wearing too much.
