- Cornel West, the iconic academic and social critic, has declared his candidacy for president of the United States in the 2024 election. He is running with the People’s Party, a progressive alternative to the two major parties that grew out of Bernie Sanders’s 2016 campaign. With 2024 shaping up to be a rematch between “neofascist” Donald Trump and “milquetoast neoliberal” Joe Biden, West says voters need a real alternative focused on tackling inequality, racism, war and corporate greed. “There’s an indifference to the plight of the vulnerable,” West tells Democracy Now! He also discusses the war in Ukraine, censorhip, right-wing extremism, and allegations of sexual harassment and assault against People’s Party founder Nick Brana, among other topics.

What makes Dr. West stand out from the rest of current world leaders is his honesty and morality. He does not succumb to polarized nor biased views, rather, Dr. West provides sound logic and a deep sense of empathy amidst the current geopolitical mess resulted from decades of unadulterated capitalism, unethical empire building, zero-sum take on foreign policy, and absence of humanity for those in power. His perspective is the most fair and unbiased with the goal of reaching our shared humanity across the globe. If Americans continue to be distracted by the failed two-party political system along its fabricated tribalism on non-core issues, things will certainly get worst with human rights violations, poverty, and global conflicts on the horizon. Voting for Dr. West is a matter of survival, failure to do so by the American public will be the end of us all.

Even then, he knows not all Democrats agree on everything. Why is this important? Because a POTUS is NOT supposed to be an autocrat dictating law. In a democracy, wait for it, people (Congress and the POTUS) have to actually work with each other and compromise IF they want to enact any new changes via legislation that gets signed into law by the POTUS. Unfortunately, our political system is more like sports teams and our citizens are like fanatics at a European football (soccer in the US) match. They support their "team" vote by color or mascot and don't do any research on the candidates.
