I probably was an assh*le at this age.. and I should say the movie is pretty over dramatic and was not a huge success in the boxoffice too, but yeah.. go for it to know who these legends are, you guys will get an idea. (well they do look pretty older in the movie from their real characters though) ✌

The accurate interpretation for 'Mera Rangde Basantee Chola' is 'Color my Shroud in Saffron' they actually sung this poem & this phrase stands for sacrifice for the motherland hence it makes every Indian emotional & Bhagat Singh a legend. They actually recited this poem. The Saffron color represents youth & sacrifice henc it's placed on The Indian Tricolor national flag.

U guys made my day. I still have tears in my eyes. This song brings in the true feelings of freedom fighters. I request you to kindly watch this movie. Bhagat singh, sukhdev and Rajguru were merely 23 when they sacrificed their life for the sake of the country. At such a tender age their passion for Freeing India from British was commendable.You will also learn about the Jalianwala Bagh Massacre one of the cruelest things done by British to Indians in this movie . Ajay bagged the National award ( highest in acting category in India) for this movie. Ajay has bagged 2 National awards. Another one for Zakhm

Actually this particular song "Mera Rang de Basanti Chola" (Dye my vail to Saffron) is very much affiliated to Bhagat Singh , because two days before Bhagat singh was hanged , A prominent congress leader Aruna Asaf Ali went to his jail. She could not see him though.... she heared voices of a song coming from a barrack. When she went near , She heared Sukhdev , RajGuru , were playing music with there hand cuffs and there plates , and bhagat singh was singing the same song "Mera Rang De Basanti Chola"
Just imagine... He was only 23 years old then. Next day he was going to be hanged.... Nobody from his family was told that the death punishment has been rescheduled and preponed to the next day.... He could not see any of there faces... he could not meet his mother.... He was going to die......
And yet..... there he was..... singing.... "Mera Rang DE Basanti Chola..."
Everytime when i tell this story to anybody ; i cry..... everytime.... tears of joy, sorrow, pride, alltogather..... this song will live forever along with you Bhagat.........

This is one of my favourite movies. In my opinion Ajay Devgan's best performance. The songs are so amazing. Every song is a masterpiece.
Correction for a lot of people commenting here: 'Basanti' is yellow, not saffron. Originating from Basant (Spring) when mustard fields bloom with yellow flowers in Punjab. Basanti = Color of spring. It symbolizes optimisim and celebration, which are epitomized in the song. The martyrs are on their way to the gallows but are celebrating as their hearts are filled with with optimism that their deaths will create Sarfaroshi (enthusiasm and fervor) for freedom in the country.

Whether you are Indian, Pakistani or Bengali, we all have a lot of respect for Bhagat Singh and his compatriots. This movie is also just brilliant. If you ever attend a Sonu Nigam concert (which is a must), this is one of his favorite songs to perform.
