Yes I didn’t consider that when I bought them, it’s just asked for the reg so hoping it has it now if now then I will try and mix the two together to make one good one 🤔
Ambient air temperature sensor information is used by the engine ECU and other systems within the vehicle. For example cold weather starting, increased idle speed. Some diesel engines don’t use glow plugs unless the ambient temperature is below 5 Celsius. The engine ECU also uses air intake temperature from the MAF sensor too so it can make fine adjustments to fuelling. It might seem a bit odd that the vehicle won’t perform DPF regens with a faulty or disconnected ambient temperature sensor but it’s true as the ECU does take into consideration this information. The heating and ventilation systems use ambient temperature sensor information too (some air conditioning systems won’t operate below-5 Celsius) The ambient temperature sensor is normally mounted behind the lower front grill but in this vans case, it’s mounted on the mirror.
A great tip Stu. The lumpy bit sticking out opposite the sliding door at head level can be removed matey. Cleans up the lines when lining the van. 👍🏼🏴

Got the larder fridge from Trago in Merthyr. About 5 amps a day consumption. So much cheaper than going for a 12v fridge.

@@VanologyConversions morning! We’re okay thanks, just a small blip with a heart problem for me but getting over that now 😮 🤦🏻♂️ I was wondering about the height of this van but see in the comments it’s a H2, we’d love to convert our own one day but feel that the H2 would be too low for me (6’1 tall). Do you think an H2 would be okay or maybe an H3? We’ve watched all the others in this series and it’s good to see Charlie getting her hands on the tools more now, she looks like she’s loving it.
She loves getting stuck in but tries to run before she can walk lol This van is a H2 and have 6’1.5” so you’d just get away with I mate. There is a way to gain an extra inch too so very doable 👍🏻
What a nice van, it looks brand new in the back when you took the ply off. Think you got a bargain there, always nice when there is no hidden surprises too isn’t it. Thanks for sharing your journey. All the best, David & Rachel 👍
Have a look behind the panel just behind the drivers seat. You might have a “converters socket” that has a fused connector for the leisure battery dc to dc connection
I did see two 10mm cables coming off the battery today with a midi fuse each, would save me a job if that’s there, probably not knowing my luck though 🤣🎉
You can get single driver seat and base from Europe. Very cheap. Did this for my transporter. As there is an abundance of them and no one from uk seems to think all the single driving seats are our passenger side. 😊
Hi, like following your channels. With regard to drivers seat, a van sales company I worked for found a local upholstery company. They would give him the complete seat, he would take off the cover, repair the foam, the unstitch the damaged panel(s), then replace with original style material. Alternatively get a brand new original seat cushion and replace, does mean some dismantling and rebuild of the seat. I worked mainly with Transits and complete new original pattern seat covers were available from Ford. Don't know about other van makers! All the best with your new venture for you and your family. John 😊
Personally I think the price you paid was very good, I paid well over that for my 2015 Relay in OCT 2022 with same mileage. Looking forward to the build and all the very best with everything 👍

You might want to check out the British Standards for the venting of gas bottle lockers. For two bottles you need a minimum of 10,000mm². In my conversion it was difficult to find clear space for that much. For a single bottle it's less demanding, but a single bottle is a nuisance when you run out. The good news is that oddly you only need to meet British Standards if the van is rented! You're allowed to sell one that doesn't meet the standard.

I’m hoping to do my own van build at some point so really helpful video, thanks. I’m going to have a shower as I think it will be useful for wet coats as well as off-grid living. Im planning on a Chinese diesel heater as they have great reviews and are cheap. But I plan to use a heat exchanger on the front to provide hot water. Not too expensive. Anyway, just some thoughts and many thanks.
make sure you have ordered genuine mirrors with the sensor for the engine pre installed (underside drivers mirror) , otherwise you will have engine issue.

It sounds like you are well on the way for the new van conversion. Lots of stuff done already. I think I need an old man's step myself. torn acl and stage four arthritis in my right knee so its hampering me really getting out in Viv at the moment. I'm surprised you didnt keep the ply out of the van for future projects just in case, but I understand you didnt want the workshop becoming cluttered. Front seat wise, that was a hell of a lot of money to swap bench for single seat. deffo cheaper to get the swivel on the bench-more sitting room then. Looks like Vanology has deffo taken its first steps and just like I did with the original "rolling Rucks" and now The Rucks" I'll absolutely follow you from day one. Who knows, along the way I might get ideas to either revamp Viv or convert another one myself......or if I win lots of dosh get a guy called Stu at er.....Vanology to do one for me. At least I know I could trust you 100% to do a class job-unlike the wazzock that originally converted Viv... Anyhoo, loved the video. I loved your obvious enthusiasm for new venture ( though I know you've done vans before) and I wish you and the family massive success. Much respect- Kenny
@@VanologyConversions I been told I need knee replacement but big fat no on that. My cousin had theirs done. Biggest mistake ever. The op crippled her. Please sound deaden the roof I didn’t do it when i converted my Citroen relay if you happen to park under a tree when it’s raining the noise from the rain drops is crazy and will wake you up at night just my experience if I could go back and do mine again it’s the one thing I would change 👍
I didn’t do it in my crafter and didn’t notice the difference then saying that I love the sound of rain on the roof, I find it somewhat therapeutic. I’ll try it in this one and report if I think it makes a difference 👍🏻
Good luck with the business, biggest problem I have living in Bedford is lack of places to get upgrades like a couple of maxxfans, solar upgrades. Parts worth about £800 but Labour over £2,000😮
one thig to be carful of some have a air temp sensor in the driver side mirror if not in it you will have no temp showing on the dash. also will bring up dash light and dpf will not work as it should.
Stu,I was wondering if you could use a drivers seat and modify it to fir the passenger side. And regarding the heating and hot water you can use a diesel heater to heat water.
Yes you can with a little modifying so now on the hunt for a drivers seat. I’ve tried a heat exchanger before without much luck but open to it if it’s got a good rep 👍🏻
It works by increasing the density of the panel which reduces resonating sounds so only need to cover the centre of the panels, it’s also quite heavy stuff 👍🏻
Can you buy a swivel for the double front seat? I looked for weeks and then gave up. I saw them for the Sprinter only. If anyone knows where they can be bought please let me know.
Hi have looked at Truma ttr2 hot water tank 5l ? Diesel heater can heat it up and has 240 volt 300 watt heater as well. Might be a cheaper way to heater hot water?? Dave and carol
Driver mirror has a temp sensor underneath ..... make sure its fitted ... cos if not ..its needed for calculating ambient pressure for the dpf ...... some cheap mirrors don't have this sensor 😂...... no sensor means van dpf won't regen😮😅😅😅😅
I need it so I can tax and insure it :( All our vans will have lithium in them, they’ve come down so much in price and offer so much more than their predecessors it’s hard not to use them 👍🏻
@@VanologyConversions I’m really not sure, cheap coz I need it gone, the only problem is that I live near Oxford and I wouldn’t know how to take it out..
@@VanologyConversions I thought so too, but no. It will consistently take you down country lanes, when decent A Roads are available, no live feed for traffic or accidents, and it's very expensive to update, so it recognises new roads. And turns and motorway junctions arrive a lot quicker than is safe, if you're unaware of where you are. Stick to your phone is my recommendation.
Looking forward to seeing the build Stu .. instead of putting in the water heater for a shower .. put a portable shower hose which you drop one end in a bucket of warm water . Charge up on usb . They work great . Lots of people use them . That way they can shower outside as well .. clean the kids n dogs before they go inside .. good luck mate . 👍
make sure you use an oem wing mirror, it has the temp sensor in and if the replacement doesn't have it you will have dpf issues later
Yes I didn’t consider that when I bought them, it’s just asked for the reg so hoping it has it now if now then I will try and mix the two together to make one good one 🤔
Can you please elaborate on the temp sensor in wing mirror how on earth has that got anything to do with the dpf
I have read that it uses the temperature to decide when the regen kicks in, if you can see the temperature on the dash, it's working
Ambient air temperature sensor information is used by the engine ECU and other systems within the vehicle. For example cold weather starting, increased idle speed. Some diesel engines don’t use glow plugs unless the ambient temperature is below 5 Celsius. @@VanologyConversions I believe that youve chosen wisely. I had the choice between the Peugeot and Ford I chose the boxer and was so glad I did.
Cracking start mate👍🏼 were looking forward to see it progress.
I’m on the No shower team.. one you can use outside sure, but personally I think it takes up too much space inside for something you use 5% of the time.
Looks like a nice van for the money btw 👍🏼
Thanks mate, got lucky with the van but was determined to start it with a good van 👊🏻
Make sure the wing mirrors are GENUINE ones with the external temperature sensor in place! If not, you will suffer DPF clogging as it won't regen without the sensor reading 👍👍
I got my fingers crossed the ones I’ve ordered have it as the ad doesn’t say 🤞🏻
Hi I missed where the windows are from they look great.
We get the motorhome windows from Cheshire vehicle windows 👊🏻🚐
@@VanologyConversions thank you so much.
Make sure the driver mirror as the temperature sensor in the new one as it will mess up you DPF !!
Yes I didn’t consider that when I bought them, it’s just asked for the reg so hoping it has it now if now then I will try and mix the two together to make one good one 🤔
Good luck with your build when you get going bud, we tried a heat exchanger before and didn’t have much luck with it 👍🏻
Great video hope it all works out for you 😊
Thank you Jane 💙
@@VanologyConversions 👍
make sure you have ordered genuine mirrors with the sensor for the engine pre installed (underside drivers mirror) , otherwise you will have engine issue.
Yes didn’t know about this :( hopefully the new ones have it, if not I’ll try and make one good one out of the two 🤣
@@VanologyConversions th-cam.com/video/EQq8t6jnvWE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UyCuyXAUjSk_1ciZ this is the video of someone else spending thousands to fix a simple fault by not buying genuine parts.
Thankfully the one I ordered was correct 👍🏻
It’s my left knee that gives me grief has done for years now, probably should get it checked out but I’m in denial 🤣😂 Vivi is a great van now mate 👊🏻
@@VanologyConversions I been told I need knee replacement but big fat no on that. My cousin had theirs done. Biggest mistake ever. The op crippled her. I'll stick with a knee support and pain killers. If you ever decide to make those grandad stands, I'll Deffo buy one off you lol, much respect-Kenny
Maybe something I can build when I retire 🤣
Please sound deaden the roof I didn’t do it when i converted my Citroen relay if you happen to park under a tree when it’s raining the noise from the rain drops is crazy and will wake you up at night just my experience if I could go back and do mine again it’s the one thing I would change 👍
I didn’t do it in my crafter and didn’t notice the difference then saying that I love the sound of rain on the roof, I find it somewhat therapeutic. I’ll try it in this one and report if I think it makes a difference 👍🏻
I’m with you richard on that one 🫨
Good luck with the business, biggest problem I have living in Bedford is lack of places to get upgrades like a couple of maxxfans, solar upgrades. Parts worth about £800 but Labour over £2,000😮
If your ever down south wales, give me a shout I’ll do them for you, emails in description mate 👍🏻
one thig to be carful of some have a air temp sensor in the driver side mirror if not in it you will have no temp showing on the dash.
also will bring up dash light and dpf will not work as it should.
Yea didn’t know that and not sure if it is on the new one, if not I’ll try and combine the old and new one to make a good one 👍🏻
some of the cheap ones don't have it small hole at the base of the mirror it protrudes just a bit.
@@VanologyConversions
Look at Bobil for hot water and heating.......
Can’t do it 😣
put night heater under dirvers seat.
I’ve heard of issues with the heaters over heating in this spot because of lack of air space around it 🤷🏻♂️
You can fit a drivers seat on passenger side , there are videos on here explaining the process
My research yesterday actually led me down this route now on the hunt for a drivers seat 👊🏻
Great vid! Have you thought about selling the bits off that you strip, like the bulk head? Would help to keep costs down a little bit.
I did but didn’t want them hanging around so listed them for free and they went same day lol
Re front seat repair . .try jack Smith car trimmer swansea .he's good
Thanks Paul, I’ll send him a message 👍🏻
Pour boiling water on the dented bumper it will pop back out with a bit of pressure from behind the dent
Already got that bad boy out 👊🏻
Stu why is it that when you put the sound deadening stuff on the walls it's only a square and not cover the whole panel?
It works by increasing the density of the panel which reduces resonating sounds so only need to cover the centre of the panels, it’s also quite heavy stuff 👍🏻
Sell the drivers seat
Source a single base and fit aftermarket single seats onto CTA swivels
Thanks for the advice appreciate it, I think I’m gonna try a drivers seat and adjust it somewhat
Can you buy a swivel for the double front seat? I looked for weeks and then gave up. I saw them for the Sprinter only. If anyone knows where they can be bought please let me know.
I had a quick look but then examined the frame of the double and couldn’t see how it could be done so I’ve opted to swap it for a single seat 👍🏻
Hi have looked at Truma ttr2 hot water tank 5l ? Diesel heater can heat it up and has 240 volt 300 watt heater as well. Might be a cheaper way to heater hot water??
Dave and carol
I did come across this one and the price point wasn’t too bad on it either 👍🏻
Is it a l4h2 or a l3h2 van? Cheers looking forward to the build
Hi John it’s an L3H2 👍🏻 thank you
I checked out BCA & it's only for trade buyers
Yes it is, I have a contact that sorted it for me. Have you got any mates with access?
@@VanologyConversions not that I know off
bmw 1 series front seats are a straight fit and are way cheaper than the pergeot singles
Don’t know that thank you, I think I’ve just secured a single seat for her 👍🏻
I have a Webasto combi diesel heater kit (everything included) for sale that I have just removed from a 2022 camper if you’re interested.
Cheers Paul, Legend 👊🏻
is getting a sliding door with a window in it from a scrap yard an option?
I have rung my local scrappy but they don’t have any at the moment 👍🏻
Do you change the van to a campervan on the v5?
We don’t but the customer can if they meet all the requirements by the dvsa 🚐
Driver mirror has a temp sensor underneath ..... make sure its fitted ... cos if not ..its needed for calculating ambient pressure for the dpf ...... some cheap mirrors don't have this sensor 😂...... no sensor means van dpf won't regen😮😅😅😅😅
Yea didn’t know this at the time of ordering but luckily it has the sensor in it 👍🏻
@@VanologyConversions cool 😎 .... seen them delivered with no sensor..... causes all sorts of mayhem if you don't know 🤣🤣
I wouldn't send for the logbook, save adding another owner on it...... also to keep costs down go AGM for your battery
I need it so I can tax and insure it :( All our vans will have lithium in them, they’ve come down so much in price and offer so much more than their predecessors it’s hard not to use them 👍🏻
@@VanologyConversions cool 😎
there is a you tube vid of a guy converting double seat to single? good luck. Colin.
I’ll have to check that out, can’t imagine it being pretty but worth a look 👍🏻
Hi would people want to buy it if drivers seat was on the other side ? Loving your new channel stu xx
It’s basically a single seat I just have to move the seat belt catch to the other side
@@VanologyConversions oh sorry you can tell I know nothing about van building lol I'm sure it will look great
Is this a L3 H2?
Yes it is mate 👍🏻🚐
I have a Truma combi boiler 4e thats 12 months old for sale...
How much do you want for it bud? 👍🏻
@@VanologyConversions I’m really not sure, cheap coz I need it gone, the only problem is that I live near Oxford and I wouldn’t know how to take it out..
Send me an email mate my email address is in the description or send us a message on Facebook, page is Vanology Conversions 👍🏻
Is thus van sold please?
No mate
Well done Stu, I'm sure it's going to be a cracking van in the end. Have you got a price in mind yet ?
Hi Guyd, thank you 💙 a bit early to tell but I think we will be around the £23k to £24k range X
That sounds a great price 💕
Can you message me the price of the van would like to do some extra things on it
Hi Doc, I have no contact details for you. My email is info@vanologyconversions.co.uk
The Boxer is a quality van and no mistake, just don't rely on the built in SatNav. The worst I've ever used.
To be fair I’ve only driven it once and was mostly motorway miles, I thought as a TomTom would be decent 🤔
That’s not very good is it, if the budget allows I may upgrade it to have apple play/android auto
Thanks mate I’m gonna look into these 👍🏻
@VanologyConversions even in Norway they only cost £25 . Useful .
