As a Raimi fan I gotta admit this is one of the few instances where TASM does a much better job. Flash is exactly how he’s supposed to be. I would say Flash and Gwen are the best supporting characters in a Spider-Man movie that doesn’t rely on mixing characters (Ned is literally Ganke in the MCU and is nothing like the actual Ned Leads)
My favorite Flash portrayal out of all the Spider-Man movies, I also like how in TASM2 they show Flash huggin Peter and Gwen at graduation, it’s a nice moment

This version of Flash was a lot more complex than the other movie versions. The acting was fantastic. From outright Bully to showing Sympathy for Uncle Ben's death.

Flash is a bully but he can have a heart. We can see Flash's evolution when he goes from bad to good. It's a movie but it shows us that in real life people who are our enemies can become our friends. For me this is a very good moral wich shows us that even the toughest people can have a heart and feel pain towards someone.

Regarding Flash being in a group of bullies, I'd say being in a group of six boys in a nasty friend group, and there also being four mean girls around would be appropriate - It's a reasonable juxtaposition of genders, boys tend to be in their own friend group, and the amount establishes Peter's social unpopularity, while also establishing Flash as a noticeable entity in the bully group along with allowing the situation to clearly be an inescapably abusive one, regardless of Flash's involvement. I'm talking about The Amazing Spider-Man and MCU Spider-Man series specifically here (though this should go for all Spider-Man media, from the comics to the cartoons), the original one isn't important as Flash is an irredeemable bully there and works fine as that (I don't get or like that he's at Harry funeral in Spider-Man 3, which is likely done to reference his redemption arc from the comics). For the sake of realism as well as making all the movie universes be in-line, as already shown in the first film, there should be a group of bullies - I wouldn't mind it being a bit bigger than it is in the film actually, to establish that the bullying feels inescapable, as opposed to Peter realistically choosing to leave the school (I've spoken before about a strong establishment of a bully group being shown, to make it seem normal, so that a bullied person doesn't leave a situation to seek a better life - Harry Potter, for example, with Malfoy, who is just one persistently nasty guy).
Chris Zylka's portrayal of Flash Thompson in the Marc Webb era made the Classmates of Tom Holland's Spider-Man look so pint-sized & looks something out of Disney Channel because it features Zendaya as a Disney Channel star in a Marvel film. Boring. To childish to have Tom Holland's Spider-Man becoming an Avenger because he is hanging out with a Disney Channel prick.
