I literally fell in love with “Set a Drift of Memory Bliss” as a kid and I love the sample of “True” Spandu Ballet. Their smooth vocals and beats was always therapeutic to me. R.I.H. Prince Be 🙏🏾🙏🏾🛐✝️🕊️🕊️🤍💙🩵🩵
Their style would be perfect for today's music scene. I was just listening to their music the other day and it hit different than when i was a teenager. They were actually ahead of their time
Been a big fan since I was a little kid. Loved the samples, the groove and the smooth rhymes. They were nothing like Le La Soul. Another group dear to my heart.
They forgot to mention the song set a drift was a tribute to the brother who died at 2 years old....witness by his brother...fhi...Yes, Attrell Cordes, also known by his stage name Prince Be, the lead singer of the hip hop group P.M. Dawn, witnessed his younger brother Duncan drown in a park lake when Duncan was two years old:
Damn, knowing this now, the whole song hits different. Thank you for letting us know. Could you imagine the horror of seeing your brother or sister drown and there is nothing you can do to save them? I wouldn't wish that on my enemies.
That doesn’t make any sense, as the lyrics to the song are clearly about a woman. “She broke her wishbone and wished for a sign I told her whispers in my heart were fine What did she think she could do? I feel for her, I really do And I stared at the ring finger on her hand I wanted her to be a big P.M. Dawn fan But I had to put her right back with the rest That's the way it goes, I guess”
I first got into them back in 2012. The Utopian Experience is one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time, and when I lived in Japan for a little bit from 2013-2014, this album was a godsend for me (this one and Screamadelica by Primal Scream). I remember walking down the street at night listening to it, and it definitely helped boost my morale.
Just found this video with me in it! Pretty decent review of the PM Dawn story. I know because I was there. Prince Be and JC are my guys and their talent is undeniable. RIP Attrell
I always loved P.M. Dawn, from the time I was in middle school throughout high school and college. I never knew all of this history with the group. What I do know is that their music touched my heart and soul. Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world. God Bless you and your families. ❤
I was 5 years old in Jersey City when I first heard PM Dawn. My friend loved them and we couldn't wait for the video to show on MTV. Whenever I hear a PM Dawn song, I always think about my friend.
Prince B is the true "Abstract" lyrical genius. I was buying his and KRS-One albums(Cassette Tapes). Nobody ever tells me what and whatnot to like. I consider his first (2) albums classics, and i'm from Harlem,Nyc. FBA
😅😅😅My best friend gave me their first album/cassette back in 92. He said it was too much doo daa daa doo rah doo rah for him. From the first note, I instantly was mesmerized by the sound. It was pure genius. I basically wore the cassette out! Loved it❤
The music and art of the "original " PM DAWN was all so beautiful. What is left of the group is a brand of disrespect to the original group. God rest your soul Prince Be.
12 year old me listened to this till my CD wore out 😅 the 90’s were the last great decade in my opinion, but maybe it’s just me, but the world just don’t seem the same since after around 2001 😢
@@dabu73 Uhhhh go back and check your facts PM Dawns first single "Ode to Forgetful Mind" dropped in 1988 and the album was released in 1991. But the music was already circulating. Were some of you guys even born? Back then music circulated on mix tapes long before being actually released. DooWop, Ron G, etc. I bought De La Soul's first album when it dropped. I didn't say "copied" I said "influenced." Plus unlike many of you I actually worked in the industry when hip hop was just taking off.
It’s 2024 and I still listen to them
👍
Me 2
I just bought PM Dawn's greatest hits off amazon and I Love it !!! ;)
Me 3
Set Adriff on Memory Bliss is the sh*t!!!! ❤❤

Lol they was wack ! Not hip-hop!
😂
They were TRASH

The wild part is that while they were being called soft KRS's og was molesting children. Wild world we live in.
🎶but that's the way it goes~I guess🎶
If you want a really dreamy groove of theirs that isn't mentioned enough, try out "paper doll". Thank me later if you haven't heard it before lol.
@@faynitawilliams4437 set a drift paper doll were my favorite
I still bump this till this day until I die perhaps, it saddens me to watch this video, but still informative.
❤ Die without you ❤was the best song PM Dawn made
That's right
Disagree, Paper Doll

Facts, brilliant song 🔥🔥🔥
Their style would be perfect for today's music scene. I was just listening to their music the other day and it hit different than when i was a teenager. They were actually ahead of their time

They were visionaries. And different from DeLaSoul. Now I’m gonna go back and listen again.
I just started listen to them again.
I'll Die Without U was the best song on the boomerang soundtrack.

Yeah I think this new gen PM should call it a day, they cant replicate what Prince Be and Eternal created, sorry guys... curtains down...
LoL, I like that, ": Curtains down" 😂
Facts I love p.m.dawn
Exactly. It's actually quite ridiculous. Unique and ICONIC can NOT ever be replaced. They get an F for effort though.
They were a cool group I love Prince b he was beautiful and soulful
Very original group . When I was young I didn’t understand them. But I respect them much they’re very creative !
All of the younger rappers have their style now they were truly ahead of their time

Luv this group when I was a kid. Still bump them to this day 🔥
💐💖 Iconic and way ahead of their time. Completely underrated.
Been a big fan since I was a little kid. Loved the samples, the groove and the smooth rhymes. They were nothing like Le La Soul. Another group dear to my heart.
True, but even if they were similar in some way, why would there have to only be one? How many other Hip Hop groups are similar?
@@Maki-00 I fully agree with you.
Diabetes is no joke, folks. I am a son of diabetic parents. My pops passed away a year ago from kidney failure.

Paper Doll is my favorite. Love it. PM Dawn is a vibe.
I had this album from when it first came out, and i still bump it...

I want to watch and listen to this video so bad but I just can't take this man's voice.

Aww I loved this song and they were gorgeous
I had loved P.M Dawn

I got Prince Be autographe at the Toy's R Us on RT440 in Jersey City before Christmas in the early 1990s
Their music is timeless.

Awe man! I love their music.
PM Dawn and their music I know, who is KRS- One?😳
I never heard of him, but I still listen to PM Dawn till date.
8:19 • a HOOD CLASSIC!! That movie is an all around classic- Eddie didn’t miss back then. The year of the suave debonair black man, classy.
Yasss
P.M Dawn had a vibe that spoke to me...wished they had better success.
Not all music is for everyone..
If you enjoyed their music then they found success!

They were on another level. Sometimes it's OK to respect the line of genre
So sad such an awesome group.
Paper Doll was my jam. PMD was super slept on.
He is the king of alternative hip hop
I always loved this group. Many artist like “the dream” “Xavier Omar” De La Soul etc were probably influenced by these guys. Die without you was heat
De La Souls first album was released like three years before PM Dawn came out and they don’t really sound alike at all
“Influenced De La Soul” is one of the most ignorant post Ive ever read.
