Enjoyed this. Even though doves are very common, I learned some interesting facts I didn't know. Grounddoves are small and have orange feet? It's kind of funny; it took this video to make me sit down and actually take the time to just observe, something that you exel at. When I'm outside, I'm working so much I rarely take the time to just sit and observe and enjoy. You've inspired me to try harder! Thanks, sharon, for sharing your knowledge and soothing voice and music. I especially enjoyed the segment on preening. Great to have captured that on film.
Thank you for your kind words. Yes it is funny how we take so many things for granted. We appreciate that our Florida wildlife visitors are with us in our green space but don't usually take the time to really watch them. Yes, the little one preening was sweet and it was so enjoyable keeping company with her. Ground doves are smaller and don't really visit feeders that much although you may see them with the mourning doves once in a while. Foot color isn't really an identifying factor. Their feet and legs are usually pinkish gray but can be a dark pink. They have smaller bills and a short squared tail. They walk pretty much everywhere and in a Charlie Chaplin fashion. They are much smaller and are our smallest dove species. www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Common_Ground_Dove/overview
My hawks (I have a Coopers and a red-shouldered) seem to always get the mourning doves and not the white-winged doves. I can only theorize it's because they are smaller and easier to carry off. Some days there are a dozen or more of the white-winged doves taking over the feeders. The Coopers hawk is like a fighter jet going through the understory! It's so amazing to watch! I'd love to get a video of that!

Thanks for the additional info. I do see ground doves but not as often as I do the others. Thanks for the link.
Love our mourning doves
Thanks for this as I didn’t know about the white winged doves being non native.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Let’s hope my coopers takes them
