Squirrels Just Want to Have Fun!
Here's a compilation of clips of gray squirrels having fun and doing squirrel things as squirrels will do like drinking, grooming, a squirrel trying to get a large bone into a tree, wrestling with their siblings, wrestling with my garden flag, a baby and mom investigating at the base of a tree, squirrels drinking out of the birdbath and a pair of siblings playing together.
My garden flag has been destroyed by my cute little friends, but that's okay as long as they are having fun. :) I did have the flag in the center island of flowers but thought they would enjoy it more if I moved it closer to the ladder, to give them better cover, and now they can relax and enjoy their playtime wrestling with it whenever they want to.
Please don't let people convince you that they are just rats with bushy tails and deserve to be killed because they are amazing animals and are worthy of our affection. Not to mention that rats are amazing animals as well in their own right. Of course no one wants any wildlife to destroy their home, and property, but please find a humane way to dispatch the problem animals.
I wanted something light hearted and cute for Christmas so please enjoy the squirrel antics!

Baby Squirrel With a Sandbox
มุมมอง 18628 วันที่ผ่านมา
I kept watching this baby gray squirrel digging and rolling in the dirt so thought I would be fancy and give him a real sandbox, but he wasn't that interested in it. He messed around near it, and got in and out of it briefly, but never actually used it like I thought he would. I still managed to get some adorable footage. I added a piece of palm tree and he found that to be more entertaining th...
Tricolored Heron Juvenile Preening Session
มุมมอง 88หลายเดือนก่อน
This immature tricolored heron stopped at my boat dock to preen in the morning sun. Such a sweet, gangly, baby bird working on learning to be a grown up bird. The mature height is 26 inches tall with a wingspan of 36 inches. They feed mainly on fish, but will also consume crawfish, frogs, lizards and spiders. The tricolored heron is protected by the U.S. Migratory Bird Treaty Act and as a State...
Green Anole vs Brown Anole
มุมมอง 96หลายเดือนก่อน
The green anole that uses my garden shed as his homebase goes after an intruding brown anole and ends up smacking him with his tail and regaining his territory. He's just hanging out looking for bugs and the brown anole shows up to mess up his tranquil day so the green anole gets obsessed with getting him away from his garden shed. The green anole is the only anole native to the United States. ...
Golden Dewdrop

The Latin name for the golden dewdrops in this video is Duranta erecta variety "Sapphire Showers". At one time it was classified as a Florida native plant but most references still have conflicting views. However, the Atlas of Florida Plants Institute for Systemic Botany claims it as non-native. Regardless it's a great shrub for a Florida garden. It is a perennial shrub that can reach a mature ...
Yellow Rat Snake
มุมมอง 1072 หลายเดือนก่อน
I have several resident yellow rat snakes. They are beautiful and I love having them around. Our garden tool shed is open at the top so we gets rats hanging out in there. My yellow rat snakes make daily trips to the shed searching for prey. Unfortunately one of them got more than she could handle the other day and a rat bit her on the tail. She's okay. The wound healed and scarred over without ...
Hurricane Helene 2024 Brought in Magnificent Frigatebirds
มุมมอง 852 หลายเดือนก่อน
The morning after Hurricane Helene (2024) we went out to check the damage and were greeted by a small flock of magnificent frigate birds. A life bird for me so I was really excited. At first glance I thought they were swallow tailed kites, but did a double take and realized it was a flock of frigate birds. Frigatebirds eat their meals on the wing over water. They have small feet and legs which ...
Newborn Green Anole
มุมมอง 1302 หลายเดือนก่อน
This morning I just about stepped on this little guy. He was in the center of the walkway so I guess he had just hatched and fell from the rafter above. He was wet and cold and was an unhealthy gray color. I kept him warm by keeping him in my hand and intermittently putting him in a ray of sunlight and soon he began to dry off and his color changed to green. He slept a lot as I walked around th...

Sicklepod

Sicklepod (Senna obtusifolia) is an annual, native, wildflower that grows to about three feet in height and just about as wide. It grows in full sun to part shade with average moisture. Yellowjacket Nest Removal

Yellowjackets are good pollinators, but when they are constantly stinging people and being a general nuisance they need to go. More proof that green anoles are not submissive to browns but more dominant. Great vid bro you NEED to make more of these, its so interesting seeing the greens dominating the browns while they interact. They interact in my backyard by fighting. I heard you say the brown is bigger but they are actually about the same size, with greens being a bit longer. Green anoles are the best
Yes the green anoles are the best! I just meant overall size in this particular interaction. Some of the green anoles certainly match the browns in size and the length is usually longer because the green's tails are much longer, and it seems to be this guy's weapon of choice. :) I hope you enjoy your anoles in your yard. I will certainly make another video of the greens as I collect footage. Thanks for watching!
@@sharonsflorida7900 Yeah for sure The other day I saw a male green anole suspiciously watching a male brown anole on his territory around my pool lanai
OMG I bet the greenies love pool lanais! They can get nice and high up off the ground. That's an awesome territory to have. lol
Can't believe I just spent 18 minutes watching a squirrel - and loved every minute of it! 😊
Hahaha! They are funny little furbabies! I am so glad you enjoyed it and thanks for letting me know. :)
Loved this video...that little squirrel was hilarious to watch! Happy Thanksgiving...
Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.
I spotted about a dozen baby anoles (brown) the other day. So TINY! Not more than an inch from nose to tail and legs like tiny pins! I tried to feed them a small green caterpillar from the mulberry bush. I dropped it at the base of the coleus they seemed to gather around. When I came back a few minutes later, there was an adult anole with a slightly larger baby hanging out of his mouth. Also visible was the tiny green caterpillar. 😳 They are aggressive. My agamas would never do that! I really enjoy your videos.🥰
Yes the larger ones will eat the babies, and anything else that fits in their mouths. It's a lizard eat lizard world out there. I'm glad you enjoy my videos .. thanks for letting me know. :)
I feel extremely blessed to have one enter my lanai. I went and got baby crickets. I had a brown Anole that lived on my lanai, I loved having her. Unfortunately after 6 mo she got scratched on the leg and I did all I could to try and heal her. She passed and I can’t just throw her away or into the wet lands behind my house so I froze her until I find the perfect spot to bury her. Her name was scoot. Now I have a beautiful green anole and the difference is amazing . This one is very graceful and takes her time as she moves about. I have not figured out a name for her yet, or him. But so happy that it’s here. I thought I was the only one who has such love for these beautiful creatures. Thank you for posting.. it’s dark out at the moment but I know exactly where it is. I don’t think the average person would ever spot her unless they have spent time with brown or green anoles. I could watch her for hours.
Oh that's an absolutely lovely story. Baby crickets are a great food for them! I'm glad you had Scoot for a little while at least and I know you will find the right time and place to put her to rest. The Universe sent you a new one to bring you blessings! :) I hope you find a good name for her. :) I'm so glad you took the time to share your story. Hopefully our stories will bring enlightenment to others and they can have these beautiful creatures in their lives too. If you can please stop back and let us know what name you picked!
Love that you caught his flight away at the end.
I know I was thrilled to get footage of him flying off! :) Thanks for watching!
Haha awesome!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
What patience and determination it took to capture this! Thanks for sharing with us.
You're welcome. Thank you for watching. I love this guy because he is one of my gardening buddies!
I found one the other day with my kids made a cool little home for it in the house
It's probably sad that it can't be free anymore. It would probably prefer to be in the wild as it was. They are wild animals and not pets. I'm not being judgmental, because I know kids like to have lizards as pets but it's not the best thing for wild animals to be caged and their freedom taken away.
Nicely done! I enjoyed all the visitors.
Thanks! So many things visit the Golden Dewdrop!
This is the absolute favorite for the pollinators in my garden! I’ve propagated the suckers a few times and now have three plants 🦋🦋
That's great thanks for letting us know! My big one in the back yard has suckers so I will try it.
Amazes me how people will go out of there way to harm something that is just minding there own good meaningful business. Nice of you to share some wisdom PS Milton was a heck of storm. Prayers to all
I know right! I see people in my neighborhood go out of their way to swerve and hit snakes, turtles, and ducks. People need to grow up! Cruelty to animals is so rampant anymore and it's just so uncalled for. Yes Hurricane Milton was terrifying! That made Helene look like a little rain shower. lol I heard there's another one in the Yucatan heading our way. I'll be glad when this hurricane season is over because my nerves are shot!
Poor thing😢
I know, but her wound healed and she is fine. I saw her the other day and she has a big scar on her tail. I was concerned it would get infected, and was ready with spray antibiotics, but it healed well. I'm about to publish my second book - Central Florida Wildlife Landscaping: Turn Your Yard into a Wildlife Oasis. I have a section on items to keep on hand to help injured wildlife!
I enjoyed as usual. I have quite a few in my yard and woods. Need to catch up on your last two videos.
I think you'll enjoy the frigatebirds! Go watch it! :)
It’s growing a lot in my garden. My people said it is a good natural remedy.
Thank you for sharing .
Thanks for watching!
Here we go again ! Stay safe. Pinellas co
You too! I'm in Polk County. I heard there are two more behind this one. Busy 2024 hurricane season! I'll be glad when it's over because it's so stressful!!!
He’s beautiful!
Thanks. :) OMG in the sunlight he glittered like a little jewel! Their skin is so amazing the way it reflects the light.
I had the most fascinating thing occur in my house with a lizard. My cat had pinned it under a rug. I picked it up, it was missing its tail and by all appearances it looked dead. I almost put him outside but decided he looked a little dehydrated so I rubbed him a little and then placed him in a container with just enough water around him and within a half hour to 45 minutes he was alive and well and released outside! I was so elated😁
Good going! :) I am glad you gave him a chance because so many times they do come back if they can just recover with some basic needs met like warmth, water, and a stress free area to regroup in. :)
Just found these in my field do you need more pods?
It's very kind of you to offer, but I have quite a few large plants loaded with bean pods. Thanks.
I would love to have this plant for my native garden! It would be such a treasure for my cardinals, finches, thrashers, etc. Since I can't find a place that sells the pant, I ordered some seeds from Etsy. Thanks for sharing this information! I love your channel!
Awe thank you. :) I love sharing info with everyone and sharing the love with the not so popular plants that the wildlife enjoy. Right now the mockingbird is eating my pokeweed berries every day! Pokeweed transplants well so if you see any on the roadside your at the edge of a parking lot grab a shovel and take it home.
Gorgeous video and so much information!🦋
Thank you so much. :)
Thanks for sharing this info a couple sprouted this year and I had no idea what it was. Will save seeds for next year.
You're welcome. It's a great free butterfly host plant. Have fun with your butterfly gardening. One thing to note they are toxic to livestock so keep them out of your grazing areas. There is a free booklet on plants poisonous to livestock. It's called Poisonous-Plants-of-the-Southeastern-United-States. Here's the link - giles.tennessee.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/194/2020/10/Ag-Poisonous-Plants-of-the-Southeastern-United-States.pdf.
It is such a cool looking plant I'm really surprised it isn't common in the nursery trade.
I agree. It would be great if everyone could buy them at the big box stores. I suppose the nursery trade relies on the plants looking great with flowers to attract buyers and many of the natives only bloom for a few weeks so they don't bother, and they don't do well with synthetic fertilizers which is anther nursery trade secret. They keep them pumped up with super bloom fertilizers to look great and then you take them home and they peter out. Although spotted beebalm blooms for quite a few months so it seems like it would be a good candidate for the stores. Well I can dream.
Beautiful and wonderfully narrated video. I am a surfer, sailor, butterfly gardener and kayaker in South Florida. If people could only realize the peace they could have within when connecting with nature and the environment. Dan K.
Thank you so much. YES kayaks are the way to enjoy nature. It's just so peaceful and quiet and zen. Glad you enjoyed it.
USF botanical gardens in north Tampa has a population of Atalanta butterflies 🤗
Thanks! That would be a great place for people to see the atala butterflies in person! I'm still hoping they keep moving northward naturally. Is that at the Museum of Science and Industry - MOSI? I knew they had a butterfly habitat, but thought they had closed. Just The USF campus? Is it an area open to the public? I'd love for you to post the info for those interested. Thanks! :)
Very informative! Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for letting me know. :)
Just lovely. Is that a solar bubbler in the top bath?
No, it's a 1/4 dripper line run through a copper pipe (to keep the squirrels from chewing it) and attached to the garden hose bib by way of a reducer adapter (goes from 1/4" to whatever a hose size is). I bury it in pvc (in case I hit it with the shovel lol) and run it over to the hose bib. The base is attached to a wooden stake next to the bird bath. I just keep it at a tiny drip with the knob on the bib. I have one on the other side where I ran the 1/4 dripper line through pvc and it's not been chewed by the squirrels so that's a cheaper option. I like the green patina the copper gets though. :) Thanks for watching!
Another humble native that I love. Thank you, Sharon, for educating us. I love your slow motion photography that really lets us see what is going on right before our eyes!
Thank you! I know ... I love the slow motion too because you can really see so much detail in the bee's movements. Not to mention slow motion makes the flowers look so relaxing waving in a breeze. I use the option on my camera so it's totally organic and not changed in editing so it's really such nice quality. I'm so glad you enjoy, and notice, my hard work. :)
Great video with lots of useful information. Thank you!
You are most welcome. I'm glad it was helpful!
The Blue Jays are so adorable!!!!
Thanks! It's so much fun watching and listening to them learn how to be birds.
What are some of the smaller trees?
Most are volunteer oak trees. There is a large water oak at the front of my yard so probably water oak seedlings from the squirrels planting them for me (they transplant really well if you find volunteers). I think the one in the back right side, with the whitish bark, is a swamp bay tree (Persea palustris).
@@sharonsflorida7900 Thank you!
You are very welcome.
My wild petunia plants itself sparingly around the garden.
That's nice. I love having free plants like that! :)
Yes, another humble native! Needs no care. Lots of volunteer plants. Pollinators love them. Thank you, Sharon
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Mine just bloomed today in North Carolina. I simply love it. It is so vibrant. It's a showstopper.
I know! They are the most vivid red!
Thanks for the video. Most don't like these. cool to see someone who does
Thanks for watching and the nice compliment! I landscape for wildlife and pokeweed is a great wildlife plant.
One of my favorite things about your channel is that you highlight the most humble natives that no one else does. I love pokeweed, also its cousin the rouge plant, but I was just wondering this morning where mine had gone. I usually see them in my woods around the house. I'm going to go out and see if any are going to come back. 🤞
Thank you. My rouge plants seem to do the same thing and I've never figured it out. I get some that are amazing and gorgeous, covered in blooms and berries, and then they disappear. Hopefully the birds will replant some for us both.
Could l plant a corkystem at the base of a ligustrum tree that is not too bushy/full so it would be shady/filtered sun? Would the vine grow up the tree trunk? I don’t have much other shade in my yard.
Yes, it should work. I have one growing in an acacia tree with speckled sunlight and the vine is doing well ... growing all throughout the branches. The corkystem passionflower is flowering, putting out fruit, and the butterflies are laying eggs on it. I've found them in deep shade so I think your ligustrum tree would work as a natural trellis. It's certainly worth a try. Thanks for watching! :)
Where was this at? We live in New Smyrna Beach beachside near Bethune Beach and nicole baytered us with the combination of the king tides and slow moving inshore winds.
Haines City. I am on a small lake so I'm not coastal. The winds did batter us.
How very cool. I never knew they prepared the leaves in this manner. Great video!
Thank you Elizabeth! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) Yes they have a lot of work to become butterflies. They do a lot of things that people don't notice. When they go through an instar they usually go to the base of the plant to be better hidden because getting the new skin makes them much softer and more vulnerable. So keep an eye out for them when you're watering so you don't accidentally drown them while they are changing sizes. :) I check each pot for them and water gently if I see them at ground level.
I love passion vine plants I have lots of them in my garden I have lots of zebra long wings and Julia's and gulf butterflies all over them I garden for butterflies in ft Lauderdale
I love to hear from fellow butterfly gardeners! 🌻 I love passion vines too.
I am planting parsley for them ...i have 5 fat ones now 😂❤
That's great because they will grow and grow and then become beautiful butterflies! :)
Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful wildflower. I love when the wind blows them gently
Wonderful video❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much. 🌻
I like how you feature the humblest of little wildflowers. I enjoyed this
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes I am always trying to focus on the underdogs so maybe people will give them a second look! The big showy wildflowers don't need advocates because they look sexy and people want to grow them. I'm just hoping to show people the little wildflowers are just as beautiful and important and deserve a place in anyone's green space. It's also a necessity for me to work with what Mother Nature gives me because my MS has kept me from traditional landscaping and gardening for several decades. I have total appreciation, and gratitude, for the humblest of any wildflowers that choose to grace my green space. :)
Cool. Any idea if this would work with an oil based stain?
Yes, it has tips specifically for oil based stain.
I love them and just found them this year while out walking in a park.
That's fantastic! They are often overlooked because they blend into the landscape AND they only bloom for about a month so if you don't catch them just right you might miss them. Not to mention the foliage almost dies back to nothing for most of the year. You definitely have to time this one just right to find it. They are such cheerful little daisy like flowers!
@@sharonsflorida7900 very cheerful and blessed to have had them ID’d until next year…
Thanks for this! I have seen some bad reviews of this sprayer but the cardboard for overspray and thinning/straining the paint so it doesn’t clog are great tips for success!
You're very welcome! Yes, for an inexpensive sprayer it does a decent job. Thinning, and straining, the paint is an absolute necessity with this sprayer. It seems like a pain at first, but worth it for best results and no clogging. It helps to use distilled water as well because it doesn't have minerals in it that can change the paint structure if you're going to store the prepared paint for more than a few days.
I've been pulling this up from all over my yard because one of my dogs is a terrier and the needles grab onto the fur. I recently learned of it's benefits. Based on what you've shown me here, I'm going to pick a spot they can call their own.
That's lovely to hear. I know what you mean about the seeds getting on the dog's fur because I've dealt with it myself. I used to keep an area out of the dog's main runs and it helped a lot keeping them off their fur. Enjoy your flowers and puppers!
I know how you feel about this plant as I treasure it also but have taken some criticism about having it in my space. I remember it from my childhood when we used to make pretend tea from the flowers! Free, hardy, adaptive, and pollinators love it. Always learn something new from your posts.
Don't accept criticism for creating your garden the way you want it! When they pay your mortgage then maybe they can dictate what you plant. The critics better get out there and bully the wildlife to stop using it and propagating it!
How long do the batteries last
The 4ah battery is good for about 4 tanks of paint. The smaller, 2ah battery obviously about half that. I recently painted a small house with it... about 4 gallons of paint, and I had to recharge both batteries 3 times to get through it. Almost wished I had a corded sprayer by the time I was finished as the battery life turned out to be limiting. Lots of fun on small projects... maybe not the best tool for an entire house.
