TV performance recorded 1st of august 1975 at the Cunard International Hotel, London. With special guest Freda Payne. Accompagnied By The Alan Peters Orchestra. Real life audio.
For a song about a guy with empty pockets, this belter certainly sounds opulent! Even if this bling might be fake, I just love its largesse of strings, the delightfully beefed up horn rhythms and Russell Thompkins Jr’s lush falsetto.
If I had money I'd go wild buy you furs Dress you like a queen And in a chauffeured limousine We'd look so fine But I'm an ordinary guy And my pockets are empty Just an ordinary guy But I'm yours till I die I can't give you anything But my love, but my love I can't give you anything But my love, but my love I cannot promise you the world Can't afford any fancy things I cannot buy you diamond rings No string of pearls But my devotion I will give all my life Just to you girl My devotion I will give for as long as I live I can't give you anything But my love, but my love
Terrific group! I grew up watching them many Friday nights on In Concert back in high school. The opening solo and rest of this song are very demanding for the lead trumpet. It was originally recorded with Van McCoy's Soul City Symphony backing the group and that lead was played by trumpet legend Bernie Glow, who played in several top jazz bands and with Doc Severinsen.
WOOOOOOW HERMOSO ESTA ES MUSICA DE LA BUENA CUANTOS RECUERDOS TAN BELLOS Y GRATOS COMO OLVIDAR TAN DIVINA MUSICA ES DE VERDAD ES SENSACIONAL ES LA MEJOR MUSICA DE MI HERMOSA JUVENTUD ES SIMPLEMENTE LO MAXIMOOOOOOOO CIERTO
I saw them live a few times back in the seventies and they sounded unbelievably good - just like the records. The only thing that slightly spoiled it for me was that they always sang this song (their biggest hit here in the UK) at a faster tempo than the record, it made it sound a bit comical.
I remember I ripped this video using a normal-speed ripper. I like this better than the so-called proffessional video-ripper I used for 'You make me feel brandnew'. The colours are much brighter.
Songs are usually performed much faster in concert so they can fit more into a show, more bang for your buck. Everyone from The Supremes to KISS done it.
They don’t make music like this anymore. We were blessed and lucky to have the Stylistics and other great groups in our lives.
The Stylistics are 90% their lead singer Russell Thompkins. His unique falsetto voice became the trademark of this great group.
You are 100% right.
One of the greatest bands of all time ❤
Russell is one of those rare singers that sound even better live than in studio
Russell's voice was fantastic! Still is!🎶🎤🎶
The stylistics are one of Philly's finest.

Y lo que no escribí antes es una especial distinción para el cantante que hace los falcetes; él, es de una voz increible.
Love this song and even if its a little faster than normal its still great.
How humbling it is know you'll never be this cool.
Times seem to Change w/ Those Gorgeous Suits ~

Oh,wonderful! high quality than my video...
sometimes they have to perform in a certain time schedule so they put up the tempo to get it all in :)
Love this song, but background sounds off on this video
@HAYASEZA0602 I just played with my new dvd-ripper..... Another dvd didn't work, so I took this one, lol! Just to see if my dvd-player still works!
blijft een mooie song al hoor ik ze liever dan dat ik ze zo zie...maar ja het was 1975 hé...
U're so very right! In that case... I'm a pig too!
They were in london here
sin autotune,, musicos en vivo.
It's too fast.
Think everyone was on speed here lol, it's a very fast version

gud live
@4435dady Gracias! :-)
primera voz falsete
Well, it's LIVE...
as big of a fan as i am , i feel the tempo on this track is way too fast.
It's live, blame the orchestra.
Elisabeth1903 On every live album by The Supremes, all their songs are sped up so they could fit more into the show. Same case here, I'm sure.
Amanda Oliveira Santana...
why is this speeded up????
Blame the orchestra! :p
Yes, the tempo is too fast.
