Sometimes the best solution is low tech and simple in design, especially in austere environments where the skill or materials needed to maintain complicated solutions are not easily accessible. This could even be used to help in drought prone areas like California. Local farmers could use this technique to help maximize the amount of water they get from rivers and streams on their property.
Seems like this simple, proven method would be utilized every few kilometers of river channels to slow and allow rainfall to percolate into and accumulate in the underground aquifer. Used in conjunction with terracing, reforestation, swales, and farm ponds it would slowly but inevitably increase ground water levels throughout the region. Well levels would rise and stabilize for use during dry seasons.
Local climate change is caused by clearing forest for agricultural farming, leaving the land barren and devoid of trees that precipitate moisture into the air. Once the trees are gone the land becomes a desert and barren.
I wonder whether there is anything even lower tech that doesn't involve such hard man-made substances such as concrete well cement. I mean can you get more vegetation itself to try to slow the rush of the water...? the use of the sand to filter and store the water is brilliant tho. I feel like we are a reinventing the task of the Beaver!
Make dam to storage rainwater to grow tree, crops and build new villages and new cities in the country.,. people who go for picnics or lived in anywhere in the country or world should know the value of work together for the beauty and work under nature.....
Great job! Planting more trees on hill will also bring more rain (pollen and tree water vapour act as cloud seeding). Growing hedges around fields will increase water infiltration and create a windbreak that will slow water evaporation. Keeping riparian areas free of agriculture and buildings will also help store water in rivers for longer and double as a wildlife crossing. th-cam.com/video/oY8ds4BiG1A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fxwbmSuux4rhHivi

Correct. It is local, not global. Grow more trees and the weather will change.
Dig earth bunds on the dry flat areas and plants local grasses and trees 🌳

More sand dams 👍
too much logging upstream took away the tree roots that pull up deep water and got rid of the shade that kept the water from evaoparting.
