Race-X is explained because they (and Adrian) appear in black mesa after Gordon already left. Gordon spends about 2 days in black mesa and it's still mostly in tact. Shephard arrives on Day 2, where the militarys already announcing they're pulling out (which happens LATE in HL1) and where you witness gordon leaving. Adrian stays through a day 3 (and I think 4), and you'll notice black mesa more destroyed.. more black ops, areas in rubble, and RACE-X being introduced as another universe caught up in the cascade event. Adrians perspective is still the latest visual aid we have of Earth, before the 7 hour war happens. The next time we see earth, is 20 years later in HL2. Who knows what a Day 6 or 7 would have looked like? (Barney Calhoun knows) Storytelling- wise, I think Opposing force is the best in the series, still to this day. The military called the site/invasion a loss cause so they retreated, and the GOV used a last ditch effort to kill everyone with black ops. And GMAN "saved" Adrian from the 7 hour war

Correction the Resonance cascade wasnt caused by Gordan freeman. However he was blammed since almost no one who was apart of the test survived. G-man had provided the purest sample ever seen to Black mesa which the machine made to examine the xenon crystal wasnt designed for the level of purity of the crystal. Once they were obtained by the scientists they were ordered to also put the machine to 110% operating effeciency which caused the cascade. The G-man being the actual cause through manipulation against all precautions set before when analyzing the samples.
Why did gman do that just to then fight against the combine tho, like he causes the combine to come to earth then spends all his time after helping Gordon to get rid of them
That part in the biodome chapters you got lost was because the Shock Trooper corpse blocked the door that you were supposed to go then you had to take a massive detour to progress to the next chapter.
Can’t wait for you to play the rest of the half-life games (and hopefully the remakes, and perhaps the Portal games because they are canon in the half-life universe)
I played OG Half-Life back in '99 or 2000 on a 166 MHz machine I built with components salvaged out of broken PCs from the local junkyard. It was the first PC I built and Half-Life was at least 50% of the reason I even built that machine. I still replay HL1 every couple years but the last couple times were kind of a breeze, even on hard mode. I think it might be time to revisit Opposing Force, if only for the barnacle and engineer…
I suggest getting some friends together and playing them all HL1, BS, OF, are all coop using a mod called sven coop. Also increases enemy health and more enemies spawn in.
I’m currently playing blue shift, think I’m over 50% in now. I find it ok, the levels do contain an excessive amount of health packs lol and weapon selection seems weak
12:45 that happened to me at the start of the original halflife; where the crab gets smashed by a falling server if you are too fast, you get smashed too. i died to a few other environmental details too but none stuck out as much as the 1st playthrough instadeath at the start XD

The Barnacle makes appearances in several Sven Co-op maps, which you might like. It's a multiplayer co-op mod where you play through these custom map sets with up to 32 teammates, smacking each other with crowbars and bunnyhopping around and just having a great time. You can play through the entire HL1 campaign on it too.
Its just me that thinks that the IA for the Aliens in all the older Half Life games are CRAZYYYY Like, they have smell, hunger, they scout around, they sleep, they can do very especific things (for example houndeyes when they are alone dont atack, but in groups do. Bullsquids drinking blood. That Miner vorts that dont atack u in the start and just atack u after the alarm) Is crazy ia for a such a old game
One of my favorite things about this game is that if you have both this and the original installed you can use the dev console to play through the original game as shephard. It's buggy and missing some animations and dialogue but you can play basically from start to finish lol

If you don't know more about the Displacer Canon Weapon. It's Black Mesa's Answer to the Portal Gun since Aperture laboratory (Portal) and Black Mesa (Half-Life) is competing each other to see who can get Teleportation first or Discover a New world. But Black Mesa Discovered Xen. But Race X tried their best to fight Black Mesa and Xen which they failed. Enough of that Lore. The Displacer Canon is Actually based off or Inspired by DOOM (1993)'s BFG 9000 Which also shoots a giant green Orb that Insta-kills everything. So it's basically a Portal Gun (Without putting 2 Portals to travel to the Other Portal) And the BFG from Doom. Oh, And G-Man Nukes Black Mesa if you couldn't tell the Giant flash That happened when G-man puts you in the Chopper.
I thought that too until I replayed them back to back for the first time in years. I was shocked to find OP4 was a boring slog, but Blue Shift had amazing fights and was a very tight experience.
First time playing OpFor I went medium difficulty but I made the crucial mistake of skipping the tutorial(cause I was fresh after beating the OG HL1) and I thought "My half-life skills are still fresh, this is gonna be a piece of cake" and then the game molly-whopped my ass as I never made use of my medic's healing, it got so bad, I had to no-hit a part that had race-x aliens with 18 health and no armor while I'm also likely to get friendly-fired by my squadmates.
If you like playing as the enemy, then after finishing every game in the main series (including HL: Alyx if possible) you should try the Entropy Zero series. It's one of, if not the best Half Life mods out there. It lets you play as the main enemy from the HL2 series, and it basically writes itself into the canon story. The quality of that mod and the dedication that the devs put in is immaculate.

I think it is fair to say that the hev suit freeman has probably is an exoskeleton suit that provides extra strength or otherwise he could not have been a match to the marines physically to pull this off… similarly his crowbar swing is very strong.
I mean...that 'logic' is only really frustrating if you're not paying attention. The lever is easily visible on the first one, but the second one? The one with the large noticeable warning sign about disconnecting electricity directly next to a power box with a big thick wire leading up to all the lights in the room? The only way that gets more obvious is if they put a neon sign in it pointing to the box.
I am absolutely in love with this series. It is frustrating though that I need to buy an entire VR setup just to play Alyx...but...I'm going to do it lol
After you complete all of the Half Life and Portal game I would really love seeing you play Sven Co-Op with your friends especially with Yogi Its just Hl1 but Co-Op and it's tons of fun You can also play both the expansions and any I mean any Half life mod Co-Op with Sven Co-Op There's a way to play Hl2 Co-Op it's called Synergy but it's not as polished as Sven Co-Op Also in Portal 2 it has it's own Official Co-op mode.
After all the main games from the series, I recommend modding. The mods made for this game can and are full of lore. Field intensity takes the bad guys perspective to a whole new level, to the point where you are actually supposed to kill the scientists. It’s a full game length too 😭

The Displacer Canon is Actually based off or Inspired by DOOM (1993)'s BFG 9000 Which also shoots a giant green Orb that Insta-kills everything. So it's basically a Portal Gun (Without putting 2 Portals to travel to the Other Portal) And the BFG from Doom. Oh, And G-Man Nukes Black Mesa if you couldn't tell the Giant flash That happened when G-man puts you in the Chopper.

In my opinion, the next expansion Blue Shift is mid tier at best, but you should still definitely play it! (At least before Half Life 2)

I thought that too until I replayed them back to back for the first time in years. I was shocked to find OP4 was a boring slog, but Blue Shift had amazing fights and was a very tight experience.

First time playing OpFor I went medium difficulty but I made the crucial mistake of skipping the tutorial(cause I was fresh after beating the OG HL1) and I thought "My half-life skills are still fresh, this is gonna be a piece of cake" and then the game molly-whopped my ass as I never made use of my medic's healing, it got so bad, I had to no-hit a part that had race-x aliens with 18 health and no armor while I'm also likely to get friendly-fired by my squadmates.
If you like playing as the enemy, then after finishing every game in the main series (including HL: Alyx if possible) you should try the Entropy Zero series. It's one of, if not the best Half Life mods out there. It lets you play as the main enemy from the HL2 series, and it basically writes itself into the canon story. The quality of that mod and the dedication that the devs put in is immaculate.

I think it is fair to say that the hev suit freeman has probably is an exoskeleton suit that provides extra strength or otherwise he could not have been a match to the marines physically to pull this off… similarly his crowbar swing is very strong.

I mean...that 'logic' is only really frustrating if you're not paying attention. The lever is easily visible on the first one, but the second one? The one with the large noticeable warning sign about disconnecting electricity directly next to a power box with a big thick wire leading up to all the lights in the room? The only way that gets more obvious is if they put a neon sign in it pointing to the box.

After you complete all of the Half Life and Portal game I would really love seeing you play Sven Co-Op with your friends especially with Yogi
Its just Hl1 but Co-Op and it's tons of fun
You can also play both the expansions and any I mean any Half life mod Co-Op with Sven Co-Op
There's a way to play Hl2 Co-Op it's called Synergy but it's not as polished as Sven Co-Op
Also in Portal 2 it has it's own Official Co-op mode.

After all the main games from the series, I recommend modding. The mods made for this game can and are full of lore. Field intensity takes the bad guys perspective to a whole new level, to the point where you are actually supposed to kill the scientists. It’s a full game length too 😭
