This incident happened in the mid 1960s. This Mayflower, FAA# N4A, was decommissioned in 1968 and was briefly used by the military for an experiment were she was called "Silent Joe". Goodyear replaced her, also in 1968, with the Mayflower N1A (1968 - 1976).
Micah Smith : Judging by the color scheme of the car and the engines I would put the date of this video sometime in the early or mid 60s 1960s not 70s by the 70s a different car color scheme was being used on the Goodyear Blimp’s maybe this is 67 / 67.... somewhere in that Time period. I flew on the mayflower sister ship the Columbia in Los Angeles in 1964 and the color scheme and design and the engines on that blimp with the same as the color scheme and type of engines on this AIRSHIP mayflower!
Micah Smith ; this could not of been 1978 or 79.this video was shot (this incident) occurred much much earlier judging by the color scheme on the control car And the model of engines on this AIRSHIP, this is an early or mid 60s mayflower or GZ-19! I flew on her sister ship the Columbia in Los Angeles in 1964 and the Columbia’s control car design is identical to this one save for the name mayflower that is! I’m thinking this incident occurred 1966 or 67 there Is an excellent book titled the “THE GOODYEAR AIRSHIPS” by David Smith and in the book of Chronicles the year to year events of these AIRSHIP’s! I’m sure he talks about this incident in his book but not positive anyway the book as well worth looking into!
The blimp couldn't have been decommissioned. This very craft along with the Columbia were later used in the Super Bowl scenes in the 1976 film "Black Sunday"
This could not be 1978 or 1979 The Pennsylvania Railroad E8 and E7 passenger diesel locomotives which appear at the 4:56 mark prove that. The PRR merged with rival New York Central to form the ill-fated Penn Central in 1968. In 1971 Amtrak took over all passenger operations from PC. By 1978-1979 these locomotives would have been repainted by Amtrak or retired from service. I agree with Bunky Wertman's date and location. Dunreith is between Columbus, OH and Indianapolis, IN along the former PRR Panhandle route from Pittsburgh, PA to St. Louis, MO. Thank you for posting. This tickles my fancy as I am both a die-hard railfan as well as a blimp fan. The Goodyear blimps were a daily sight in the summertime over my Flushing, NY childhood home, as we lived just 1.6 miles from their Flushing Airport base. I saw the Mayflower and Columbia all the time.
This incident with MAYFLOWER N4A happened June 2, 1967 in Dunreith, Indiana. See more here: facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2342572572010&set=gm.345081888842013&type=1&theater
Yes, I saw Dick Widdicombe and Lee Cermak too! Mr. Cermak looks rather stunned sitting in the control car near the end of the film, amazing the airship could be flown back to Wingfoot Lake for repairs!
if the "civi" in the checkered shirt is NOT my good friend (the late) P. "REN (Rendall) Brown?!? does any one know WHO it is?! (Neal Sausen) 05-11-17) also I think this occurred earlier (in 1966 or 67) judging from the paint scheme of the control car & engine model!!

This is pretty good footage for the 70s. Kudos for recovering it and putting it together here.

Far from a terrible accident.
Good thing it was a blimp that hit those lines and not a choper or a plane.
If it was it would have been over then and there...
Oh the humanity.

Lourdes C it was decommissioned then they built another one in the 70s and named it Mayflower as well
I knew this wasn’t the late 70s on film quality along. And as I looked at the clothes everyone had on I figured late 60s.
